IGN's Pokemon OR/AS Review - Too Much Water

Recommended Posts

Oh, how dare they give Pokemon OR/AS a 7.8 just because of the fact that there's "too much water" in what is supposedly a remake of a game that ALREADY had a lot of water (sarcasm). This review is so bad >_> (sarcasm). Seriously, the Hoenn region is pretty much an island SURROUNDED by water. So of course it's going to have water in it.. I don't get what all the fuss is about just because they game the games a 7.8

because the water negatively impacts the game in their opinion? It's like Mario Sunshine has awful swimming mechanics, if they had more swimming levels, defending it because it's a tropical island is dumb. If you're going to have something, you make it WORK.

You know how the saying goes "you can't spell ignorant without ign?" Guess what? Repel exist. Want to decrease the massive water type Pokemon encounters? Repel exist. Problem solved.Seriously guys? You forgot about repels? Smh.

EDIT: Want more? Back in RSE you had to go back in forth to use repels. In XY and ORAS, you can keep using repels without having to go to your bag. No change from RSE to ORAS, as if!

Can't wait for IGN to say "Too many Zubats!" IGN is a joke and always will be imo.

I don't even play Pokemon and I call tell how much of a non-solution this is. Using repels only works if you already have your Pokemon at a decent level, and if they dominate the type of Pokemon you'll encounter then that means you're limited in what types of Pokemon you can have on your team, since being effectively probably means having a team mostly effective against water types, or at least not vulnerable to water.

A game should be balanced towards being a good experience for the player, this sounds like a pretty valid complaint

That's why it's RPG, you know when to use x items, what Pokemon you want and don't want. Leveling up isn't hard, especially if they give the exp share like what they did in XY; it shares exp to the whole team. Repels are awfully cheap. There really isn't an excuse to not be able to avoid water types, seeing as most are on the sea. The only exception is Pokemon with dual typing like Wingul, since they're part flying, of course you'd see some in the land.

...but isn't the other half of this complaint that there's a lot of sea? I'm not really convinced of the "you should just know" attitude either. Having to go ot of your way to have the game not be annoying isn't really a point in its favour. And it's not like everybody who buys this is going to be a seasoned Pokemon player, heck I'd say a lot of them have barely even touched a video game

That's how most RPG are. What I mean is people have to read, especially on RPGs. The games do have a NPC tell you here's the Pokemon center, does this and that, same with the Pokemart. The person eventually has to go to the Pokemart for essentials such as Pokeballs, Potions, etc.

that's not really the same as "they shoudl know what areas have certain Pokemon so they can plan in advance to avoid them"

Visit the area, have a few encounters and done. Isn't that part of the point of Pokemon? Explore and catch, train and battle? Edited by OmegaForte

and having too many water pokemon kinda hurts your freedom in doing that

Go back to my old post. Most water types are in the sea. Why would anyone expect to see anything else besides that?

again, logic isn't really a valid excuse if it hurts the game

Seriously? So I should expect a fire type in the ocean. I doubt people are that stupid to not use common sense when they use surf and not expect water types to appear.Again, I'll leave it at a inb4toomanyzubats because that really hurts the game if I go by IGN's logic. Edited by OmegaForte

if it means that there's a more balanced ratio of fire pokemon in the game , then YES, that's exactly what should happen. Ideally they;d come up with a more elegant solution than that, but the point is that a game based around rock paper scissors style type matching shou;dn' have a huge surplus of paper and not enough rock or scissors

So basically, I placed it here to make a joke about the review just like the entirety of the internet. Instead, it turned into two people complaining about a non-issue.

It's called discussing. Lol Besides I'm not the one who started it , I simply wrote how easily people forgot about repels , but I already digressed. I'm still laughing about the memes tho.

Two people were complaining, you were not one of those two.

Oh. Well I feel stupid, but what's done is done. lol

Let's not forget the negatives they gave HeartGold and SoulSilver.

I'm surprised they never used the "-It's a Remake" again this time around.

I remember that one. Further proves that IGN never changes for the best, but for the worst when it comes to reviews.

Wait wait wait! You're telling me that "-It's a Remake" got a better score than "-Too Much Water!?"

Different reviewers but yes more or less.

Strange really I thought (and still do) that HGSS were the best Pokemon games on the DS. I fully expect ORAS to be the best Pokemon games (so far) on the 3DS, but that's because XY were a huge let down after you beat the league.

You get different scores because of different people's opinions, which also means different scores. One person thought HGSS was 8.5 and another thought ORAS was a 7.8.... Like, two different people reviewed two different games.

I might have worded it wrong. It just seems ridiculous for the most part.

Review scores themselves are just arbitrary numbers, too. You have to read the whole review to get a good look at what the reviewer liked or disliked about a game instead of just assuming the wording of the highlights is literal.
