Connected 978 Posted November 13, 2014 Annoying gameplay, absolutely, but it's got a plot integral to the Dark Seeker saga and lots of cutscenes. If i remember it right just 2 each floor.
FerroAxel7 237 Posted November 13, 2014 Actually, they were his idea to begin with. It's not some gimmick forced upon him from Nintendo. And while the DreamEaters would likely not be appearing out of the Dream Realm any time soon (ignoring that one scene from the end of DDD), I still doubt that we'll never see them again. There's always the chance of re-exploring the Realm of Sleep for whatever purpose. And I was very fond of the Dream Eaters, I was getting tired of having to fight the Heartless in every game. It's always fun to get a new enemy to fight, and it's even more fun to have some enemies that you can turn into your allies too. It was a very good idea in my opinion. To each his own, man. Haha I didn't mean Nintendo literally made him create Dream Eaters. I knew he wanted to create them on his own. I just think it doesn't fit in with the rest of the series. And I don't mean Dream Eaters as a whole. I mean how you had to nurture your DE and "play" with it for a better connection with you. It's very Nintendo-like. That's Xehanort's thing. 1 FerroAxel7 reacted to this
Aru Akise 2,540 Posted November 13, 2014 Story wise I do think CoM is the closest to the style I wish for the series. A more serious and dark one. As well as BbS.
HeyMouseSayCheese 1,133 Posted November 13, 2014 If i remember it right just 2 each floor. Even if that were true- and it isn't- that's still a minimum of 26 cutscenes, not counting Riku's story. That's more than "a couple".

hatok 6,413 Posted November 14, 2014 (edited) Kingdom Hearts 2 has more then 10 hours of Cutscene's while Re: Com has aslmost 3 hours. yeah, KH is ridiculously obtuse, full of fluff, and that results in a messy overall story, CoM meanwhile is lean, with most of the fat trimmed, most likely because it was a GBA game Edited November 14, 2014 by hatok
The Transcendent Key 12,109 Posted November 14, 2014 I definitely agree that Chain Of Memories is an amazing game! A lot of people hate it for the battle system, but I personally loved it, since it actually made you think of which cards to use before attacking, and plus, you'd also have an advantage of preventing an enemy from inflicting heavy damage on you by using a 0 card! I think that the battle system was well done and very cleverly layered out, and the many sleights in the game were quite good and powerful. And well, the worlds couldn't look exactly like they did in the first Kingdom Hearts, because they are in a castle after all, and the castle only shows an illusion of your memory, not the actual world itself. And I loved dominating over the Heartless as Riku! His Card Duel specials and Dark Mode were beast! As for the story, I think it's very intriguing and very gruesome since Sora's memories are basically being tampered with, and the reason he's fighting is changed as he ascends the castle floors. Namine didn't want to hurt Sora, but she was forced too because of Marluxia. The introduction of the Organization in this game was fantastic, and all the Organization characters that didn't appear in Kingdom Hearts II gave nice performances in this game. And I especially loved Riku's story, since his journey of redemption started in Castle Oblivion! In short, I think that Chain Of Memories is a great game, and it ties in neatly into Kingdom Hearts II, providing a clearer understanding of things. Marluxia is one badass villain, and my favorite Organization member. Seriously, he's a frickin beast! His flower power's enough to kill you! Fear the flower power! Rose petals attack!!! He's so devious, and he wanted to obtain Sora and use him as a pawn to overthrow the Organization, which was a diabolical plan! Vexen was a crazy scientist and I loved him for it, Larxene was a total bitch that played with Sora's emotions, Zexion and Lexaeus were trying to keep the Organization together, and Axel received some pretty good character development in this game. He rooted out the traitors and did his job in disposing them! And well, in general, I loved everything about this game, and it showcased how far Sora will go to protect the people he cares about. He killed Marluxia with no remorse in his face! GETTING ALL THE DAMN TROPHIES FOR RE:CHAIN OF MEMORIES IS A PAIN IN THE ASS, BUT IT DOES NOT REDUCE MY LOVE FOR THIS GAME, NO IT DOES NOT. JUST ONE MORE TROPHY AND I'LL GET THE PLATINUM! So yeah, Chain Of Memories is great, but my favorite Kingdom Hearts games are Birth By Sleep, II and Dream Drop Distance. Jermaine 79 Posted November 15, 2014 COM is definetly the most unique, and really took a chance. I like it a lot too (My 2nd favorite next to KH1.) 1 Exiblade7 reacted to this
FluffDictator 37 Posted November 30, 2014 Well, Few things... My favorite was definetly Kingdom Hearts 2 as well.... Although Chain of Memories was OUTSTANDING... The gameplay was a bit off... If they fixed that in the Remake the game would be amazing... The reason people seem to like chain of Memories is due to how dark the story is.... But if you notice, Birth By Sleep Gets the most attention as the darkest game in the series... Chain of memories to me, yeah it was okay in the beginning, but i had to play it for a little while to actually get immersed and used to the strategy card battle system, which i do not want from a game... Yeah okay you can make the card system whatever, but i feel like they could have done better at getting us into it.... And i'm not saying i like the cards better, but once you get used to it, i feel like the card system actually made the battles a bit more intense do to the fact that there was strategy involved, and although in regular KH games yeah you need to stay smart ot win, but CoM Did perfect where you actually had to really think.... I will not say KhRe:CoM is my favorite... But it is up there

CoM's darker story is more restrained and well done than BBS. With CoM, everything fits, because of the linear design we have a strong progression with the story. There are no major plot points that go poorly explained, or weirdly executed The analogy I use is Chain of Memories is like fine wine. You're probably not going to like it that much the first time, but it gets better with age 1 HeyMouseSayCheese reacted to this

Kotomi 95 Posted December 10, 2014 (edited) I think storywise COM is a very good game, but gameplaywise it is very boring and too simple. I like how magic is equally as usefull as normal attacks, but it is annoying you have to choose one of the two, and your attacks are kind of on rails. You keep doing the same combo's, magic attacks and summons in the same order because the deck is the way it is. You could say this is my own fault for not skipping through the cards, but I found it to be almost impossible to come up with a new strategy right on the spot during boss battles. You have to plan out a battle beforehand, and that really annoys me. In the other games I could just keep smashing an enemy with the keyblade and throw in magic attacks whenever they were neede/seemed handy. Here you not only have to manually avoid using magic cards to keep a combo going, but you also need to stop dead in your tracks whenever you are out of cards. I personally think the game could and would have been much better if they redesigned parts for the remake(the GBA probably couldn't handle more and it works much better on that because of 2D). Like a different deck for normal attacks and magic. I guess my main gripe with the game is having to plan out battles beforehand, because that is just not something I can do, because you never know in what kind of situation you'll find yourself in next. And having to die to reassemble your deck to fit a fight is not fun. If you cannot overcome something with your current powers because you didn't know certain attackpatterns and such, it is just flawed. Yep, I have no idea if anything of this makes sense whatsoever. Let's end on that I like Days the best, but I think BBS is the most well designed both gameplay and storywise. Daxam XXI 31 Posted January 9, 2015 KH2FM will ALWAYS remain mine (unless by some miracle KH3 tops that) but I HATED Chain Of Memories and the card system just put me off THAT badly. I struggled through it on Begginer I hated it that much and only want to get through it just so I could say I completed it and plus I liked Riku's story anyway since my deck is chosen for me and I liked that better and enjoyed doing that on Proud.
