Ubisoft Should Stop Making Assassin's Creed Games

Recommended Posts

I can't belive that Assassin's Creed is still going after all these years. I really do like the series, but let's be honest people, Assassi's Creed has really lost its charm after Revaltions. The series really should have ended with AC: Revelations. Before AC3, AC has fantastic characters. You had Altiar who made a very good start to the series. He really helped kicked off to where AC was originally. He was badass, stealthy, and nothing like anyone has ever played as before. He felt completely fresh as a protagonist. Than came Assassin's Creed 2 where they introduced us to Ezio. That was when the series REALLY started to blow everyone's miinds. He proved to be even better than Altair, and ALtair was already a good enough character. Toe the moment when he was born, to when he became an assassin's, to when he found Altair's remains in the library of Masyaf. His story was truly breath taking and is the whole reason why he's one of my favorite video game protagonists of all time. He really had a tremendous story that truly felt emotional. And on top of that, you have the story (I mean mean the actual story from the first AC up to AC3). All that with the apple of Edin, the threat of the Earth being destroyed by a solar flare, and Desmond being the chosen hero who was destined to save the world. And than came Assassin's Creed 3. Boy did that game drop the ball of the series. Hard. Conner was seriously really uninteresting as a character. His character development was not all that great because all he really did throughout the whole game was trying to save his villiage. Heck, his entire story was just flat out uninteresting and full of garbage. Now as for Hatham, I'll admit he was a bit more interesting as a character. But I still didn't like him all that much because all he ever did was go to Boston, have a wife, and than suddenly join u with the Templars. As far as I'm concerned as a fan. The AC series really should have ended at Revelations. Because that was the last good AC game. You see? The huge difference between Ezio & Altair and COnner & Hatham was that Ezio and Altair actually fought for something. While Conner and Hatham just ran around doing whatever it is they wanted to do with no cause whatsoever. And now all that Ubisoft is doing with the series is milking it without even coming up with a good, and emotional story. They're just trying to get every cent out of the AC series as much as they can. It's a shame to see it turn into the next Call of Duty. The reason I don't buy the new AC games because I feel that it really should have ended at AC: revelations or 3.

Altair was boring and Edward Kenway was amazing. Just because Ezio has been the best character thus far isn't a reason not to give these games a chance.

I think it comes down to "don't like it? Don't play it". I haven't done as much of 4 as I would like, but I plan on getting Unity because it definitely interests me (the setting and the new mechanics). But I'm not planning on getting Rogue, because I'm not a huge fan of the naval combat.

My first experience with Assassin's Creed was the PSP game but I've heard of it for a while and I had fun with the PSP game and then played a little bit of the first game and had fun with that then I played Assassin's Creed 3 and I had fun with it I liked the concept of the Revolutionary War but I have to agree I did not like Connor that much compared to Altair and I haven't played any of the Ezio games so I can't have that much of an opinion and I liked the Assassin's Creed 3 Liberation protagonist as well she was fun to play as and I just pre-ordered Rogue because I like that concept of having a Assassin turn Templar.  I would like to play the games I haven't which is Assassin's Creed, 2, Brotherhood, Revelations, and Black Flag but I want to play the PS4 version of Black Flag and Unity so I'm not gonna get them any time soon and my cousin has the other games so I might borrow them from him at some point.  I like the games and I have fun with them but then again I haven't played those games I mentioned so I don't feel as strong as you do but I've heard good things about all of those games with Revelations being the best one and of course a lot of people didn't like 3 that much but I had fun with it and I agree about Connor not being the best protagonist of the series

Well, not really saying that the games aren't good because Ezio's not in it. I'm saying the newer games aren't that great because I feel the series really should have ended at either Revelations or AC3. Everything after Revelations has not been that interesting as far as story goes.

Square Enix should stop making Final Fantasy games.

Well, seeing as how bad the FF series is getting. Perhaps Square should stop making FF games unless FF XV proves to be a great game. I have some faith that FF XV will restore the series to its former glory.

Edward was slightly better than Connor besides i don't count them as part of the timeline or series 3 and 4 shouldn't exist ubisoft made these two titles to bank on the success of the series, hell revelations shouldn't exist the man who created the ac ip was fired because he wanted to end ac in a trilogy but unity looks good i hope ubisoft can create a protagonist that could rival or excel ezio himself

I personally agree and don't agree with what Tails here is saying.  While it's true that the Assassin's Creed games are amazing, I think that Ubisoft is hitting a dangerous point where they might eventually go into franchise fatigue.  The last AC game I played was Assassin's Creed III, and to be honest, it wasn't as amazing as I had expected it to be.  Sure, I was able to play through Revolutionary Era America, and that was a blast to play, but Connor didn't have enough time to develop as a character, and he didn't get the same amount of growth like Ezio did!  Ezio really is an amazing Assassin, and one of the best, if not the best in the series by far, and the way his story connects with Altair's was very interesting!  But when I played ACIII and finished it, I felt bittersweet.  I beat the game, but Desmond died, and that was the end of it.  If that's how it had stayed, then maybe I would feel differently about the series.

The thing is, since Desmond is gone, now they're focusing the present time story with people working for Abstergo.  Why do I want to play as an Abstergo employee?  I haven't played Black Flag or Liberation, but since I have played all the games till ACIII, I really want to get them, and especially given the fact that Rogue's story intrigues me, and Unity looks breathtaking as well.  Assassin's Creed is one of my favorite video game series besides the Kingdom Hearts games, and part of what I love so much about the games is how they incorporate real life historical figures into the story, and if you look closely, the Animus database is basically an encyclopedia to help you with History Class.  I loved reading through the database, and well, I love the gameplay and premise of Assassins vs. Templars in general, but yeah, I really don't want AC to end up being another Call Of Duty.

I have a deep love for this series, and well, when the time comes that they eventually end it, I hope they end it on a high note.  As for the Assassin's Creed games I haven't played yet, I'll get them in due time, but I just hope the series doesn't grow stale.

Unfortunately it will be, ubisoft is now infamous for milking their franchises till their dry the reason why were getting watch dogs 2 and far cry 4 and two ac games that only seperated by months

That's the video game industry nowadays.  They don't take as many risks anymore, and prefer to rely on their established franchises.  But, sooner or later, they're gonna have to move towards the next big thing. :3

In your opinion. FFXIV: ARR has over two million active subscribers. X/X-2 HD Remaster has sold about 1.60 million copies worldwide not including digital. The Final Fantasy games on iOS, Android and Steam also sell great. Curtain Call sold poorly but was very well received. Final Fantasy Record Keeper has made Square Enix over a billion yen in a month. And they're already working on XVI along with another big FF project, most likely a VII remake.

I disagree. Connor was way more interesting than Ezio imo. People say Connor is a boring character but they didn't really understand his motivation. Sure, he was not an empathic and charismatic womanizer like Ezio (is it me or does everyone want this type of character?) , but he truly has a deep personality and a sad story. He doesn't fight for revenge, but for the greater good (and not only for his village as you said). His inner conflict made him suffer, because he partly didn't know what right and wrong is. He lost everything he had (his mother, his mentor, his best friend and his village) to give the people freedom. Between many interests during the revolution, Connor is searching for the right path. And he found it with a great sacrifice. But it is sad to know that Juno has just used him for her own interests. That makes Connor an even more tragic character than

The best thing about his story was the relationship between him and Achilles (and Haytham). Connor and Achilles hadn't always the same opinion, but Achilles saw him as a son and gave him more father love than Haytham could ever give. Sad that he died. Haytham had also a little feelings about Connor and influenced him a bit to fight on the same side, but at the end the conviction of both of them were stronger than their blood. In general, the story was not the typical "assassins are good and templar are evil" thing. Haytham had good arguments to fight for the templar, but he would kill innocent people to reach his goals. Rather Shay Cormac (the new assassin from Rogue) is the perfect example of a good templar.

To be honest, the games have lost their "magic" after Revelations, but the storyline is still interesting and Unity seems to go "back to the roots" with a big city instead of nature. And by the way, the developer are making a good job, but the heads of Ubisoft are milking the franchise to death. No wonder Patrice Desilets has left Ubisoft. He is the reason why AC is popular today and it is a little bit sad that AC has developed as we know it today without Desilets.

PS First post and I'll try to improve my English skills..

not really only the big developers/publishers such as activison, ubisoft, and ea and many others who like to release something yearly developers only see it as a job and don't put effort into it but we do hope for the industry many companies like from software, Atlus, even square is recovering too their glory days and nintendo is always providing well made games

Yes, I agree.  The lesser known publishers and developers have many great game series, and it's a shame that not many people know about them!  And yes, Square and Nintendo always deliver quality games, and I also like Namco Bandai, the studio that handles the Tales games, or well, at least the Tales games I've played. (Which include Xillia and Symphonias 1 and 2.)

Oh, awesome!  After playing 2.5, I plan on getting Tales Of Xillia 2 and then Tales Of Zesteria.  I've also wanted to play Abyss, and if I'm not mistaken there's a 3DS port of it!  I'm trying to get as many of the Tales games as possible!  They're really good RPG's!  Ooh, and I bet your streams would be cool! :3

They won't stop making AC games until they stop selling well. Ubisoft has literally said that they have already decided how to end the series, and will keep making games between now and the last AC game until they stop selling well.

Well, you're right about some points about Cooner. But I just wish that his character was a bit more...flesh out. Everything just felt so rushed and not very well thought of in my opinion.

The last AC game I played was Assassin's Creed III

There's your problem. Pick up Black Flag. I guarantee you won't be disappointed.

Why do I want to play as an Abstergo employee?

The change from an actual character protagonist to just playing an avatar of you was to address the fact that a lot of people didn't like Desmond very much. I think they're focusing on the wrong problem and that it wasn't Desmond that sucked, it was the writing of the modern day story in ACIII. Though he's kind of annoying in the first few games, he really comes into his own, I think, as the series progresses. It's called character growth, people.

However, playing as an avatar of you means less actual story in the modern day, which means more time in Pirate Land, so it has its perks.

I personally love the series. Can't wait for rogue, and eventually unity, once I have a PS4 someday.

I think most of the hate for the series ends up being placed on Connor. AC3 was actually the first game I had played. I never really saw any advertising for it, I had just heard it was a great series and that game was on sale. I made it about halfway through the game, but was pretty confused as to what was going on (big picture "assassin vs. templar"-wise) since I had never played any of the other games. So I bought the rest of the games. I started playing them last May, and over the entire summer played through 1, 2, brotherhood, revelations, and 3, and parts of 4 (haven't finished yet, though i know what happens) Now I'm almost done with liberation HD, and then I'll finish 4.

Basically to sum up how I felt about all those games: 1 is super boring and repetitive. It looks pretty, but that's about it's only good quality. Yes, I realize it was the first real open-world game for last gen, but it really is terrible. 2 was MUCH improved over the original and had a new wonderfully interesting lead character in Ezio. Loved it! Brotherhood basically refined 2 even further and made it even better. Revelations was essentially the same thing as 2, just with a shorter story. But it still felt great because Ezio. This time playing 3 (I started over) everything made sense. Haytham still annoyed me, and Connor was much less interesting than Ezio. BUT, his story was still pretty decent. Much better than Altair. I liked a lot of the gameplay improvements, though several of them were not refined enough and weren't refined enough until 4. I think the biggest problem with 3 is that it wasn't the game that was advertised. They advertised it as a big American Revolution game where Connor would fighting in major battles and that kind of stuff. Which would have been AWESOME. But instead you had missions of dumping tea, or commanding men to shoot redcoats, or ducking behind cover so you didn't get shot until you could run up a hill and assassinate a commander from a tree.  They overhyped things that weren't a part of the game, something Ubisoft made a point to not do with black flag. And from what I can tell they have done a good job of this with rogue and Unity as well.

Also, I know a lot of people hate the modern day storylines, but I actually really enjoyed them. Like I would love to actually see the outside world after whatever happened at the end of 3, as opposed to the inside of Abstergo in 4. I personally hope they bring this stuff back in later games.

just my thoughts

I haven't played Assassin's Creed since AC2 and I feel like I won't be disappointing picking up Unity. It looks like a solid co-op game I could get into with my friends for a bit. The environment looks immerse and appealing as well.
