And people wonder why I don't touch this show with a fifty foot power pole.

Well... I've got a few reasons for avoiding this anime, but I suppose this works, too.

I heard the show isn't bad at all,

I've only barely heard of this show. I've heard its really good. What makes it so bad?

I wanted to watch it but I am scared to watch it. I am not into anime other than Black Butler/黒執事 and Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magia

i watched the first few episodes. it was okay. nothing super special.

It's gay as f*ck.

I don't really have anything against the show, but it's pretty much pure yaoi fangirl bait... with swimming.... and shirtless guys...

Shirtless guys I don't mind ;) . But when you put it like that, I can see why you dislike it. Yaoi and yuri can ruin a fanbase in a big way if there's too much of it. Yuri is part of the reason why I will never read the Sailor Moon mangas myself even though I love the anime shows.

I like Free!, though I understand why it might not appeal to straight male audience. But honestly speaking, people make it seem a lot worse than it really is. Meaning that I've seen shows that have more fanservice than Free!

I think the characters are the best thing about the show at least for me.

Still, it's clearly not for everyone. : D
