The extreme lack of parents appearing in the series accentuates their non-importance. I mean, Sora's mother was only heard ONCE Sora go eat your dinner already. And his father was mentioned ONCE by young Riku. 7 whole games, and each parent gets one mention. I doubt family will ever come into the equation at the moment. Peace! Even if it's just for a scene or two.
