Okay, there's a million ways to make this thing more stupid, so how about a fair middle opinion? The way I see it, it's not technically anime in style (since it's a video game, an anime is entirely different), however it does take many influences from popular anime forms in it's general art style. The sort of general looking human form with ideal features and slightly thinner neck and big expressive eyes certainly do hail some inspiration from many animes and the 2-dimensional art is certainly closer to being "anime-styled" than the 3-dimensional renders are. However, since it's a 3-dimensional video game, you really need to ask yourself where you draw the line between anime and game, because the "true" line seems to be very blurred to me. I've certainly drawn some similarities between Kingdom Hearts and an anime, in terms of both art style and overall plot structure, but at the end of the day I still realize that Kingdom Hearts is it's own thing and isn't necessarily just one other thing entirely. Like many great things, it's taken inspiration from other great sources and combined them in an appealing manner. This can be seen in shows like Avatar: The Last Airbender and Teen Titans, where their inspirations are obvious and apparent, but due to the unique nature in which they were created and executed, they sort of lie in their own category. I feel that all of Square Enix's games tend to follow an art style that is a nice mix of anime and photo-realism, where the characters are drawn in a familiar anime fashion but their final execution is made to look more believable. The same applies to Kingdom Hearts, only it's slightly more unique in that it incorporates some Disney charm in its appearance as well. So in a sense, yes, Kingdom Hearts does take a lot of its style from typical anime styles. But at the same time, it's its own style and is a bit closer to being its own thing rather than an anime turned 3D (that would be Sword Art Online's video games). Does that satisfy you KittensOnFire?
