kingdomlanelover 494 Posted October 6, 2014 I wanted to make this topic to point out the differences between Japanese reviewers like Famitsu and English reviewers like IGN. I don't have time to go and put every link for the reviews, but here are some quotes. Kingdom Hearts 3D Famitsu- "I love the drop system! There are times when you drop in a boss battle, and it makes you try even harder to beat the boss as fast as you can! IGN: "I like the drop system, although it can get pretty annoying when you drop in a boss battle, they should have changed that." Final Fantasy XIII Famitsu- "Even though the game is pretty straightforward, the luscious, beautiful environments always give you something to look at." IGN: "The game is too linear, and the environments aren't that great to look at because the camera is terrible." Theatrhythm Final Fantasy Curtain Call Famitsu- "I love how Square Enix put in more of my favorite songs and characters, it feels like a new experience!" IGN: "The game just feels like an expansion pack, although there are new elements, it's not worth it buying the game a second time." I remembered reading in an article somewhere that western reviewers are very harsh, like on movies, television, and video games. While most reviewers in the east are very grateful for what is given to them, even if it's not that good. It just shows the difference in how we look at things. I wonder if it changes the public we view things as well? We're too scared to try out a video game or watch a movie because we don't want to waste our time if it's bad, so we let other people do it. But we may be missing out on something we would really enjoy. What is your opinion? 8 0blit3rati0n, Moni_22, Cucco and 5 others reacted to this
Aru Akise 2,540 Posted October 6, 2014 (edited) ちょっと失礼。 I think I should have tried more games on my own. I wouldn't have even touched Kingdom Hearts if I only heard what people said about it. HikariYami 354 Posted October 6, 2014 The West focuses more on the negatives than the East. The game could be the best ever but Western reviewers will find something wrong 2 GN_Otaku and Cucco reacted to this
Kaweebo 3,617 Posted October 6, 2014 The West focuses more on the negatives than the East. The game could be the best ever but Western reviewers will find something wrong That's because we're spoiled in the West. We've gotten so many good games and movies that it's become subconscious to take all of it for granted. I'm not sure of where that stands in Japan, but it seems to me that they're much more appreciative of what they get, at least with their games. 5 kurasa25, Hero of Light XIV, Oli and 2 others reacted to this
JTD95 1,107 Posted October 6, 2014 I see no problem with either of the reviewers. As I understand the eastern culture they're very grateful for a lot of things. As for the western, it's not about being negative, it's about being critical which is good to. Be grateful for what you get but always have a critical eye. Don't mindlessly applaud a pile of shit. 3 Isaix, Wateraptor and Kishira reacted to this
Ceriraye 485 Posted October 6, 2014 Ugh this just make a me mad, are people here (in the west I mean) really that stinky whinye? Like Jesus Christ, this pisses me off so much
Master Keeper 687 Posted October 6, 2014 I totally agree, western reviewers are so harsh on reviewing especially IGN and I've been noticing that IGN's reviews are becoming a lot unlikable compared to the past.
ChildOfTerra_FriendOfRiku 135 Posted October 6, 2014 I never make a call based on a critic's review. Ever. I go based on the opinions of everyday people or just go in blind.

It's called being critical. Not accepting everything without examining it. 1 Kishira reacted to this
Hero of Light XIV 2,381 Posted October 6, 2014 That's mostly IGN. While the Western world can get a little more cynical about some things, it doesn't go nearly to the same irrational extreme as IGN goes. I find that they don't half of the things they claim to know. I wouldn't view IGN as the voice of our culture, it gives us a very negative and stupid image.

I don't really care about western titles But putting that aside, I already said in another topic that I don't really like IGN's reviews.
