MarkXIIII 106 Posted October 6, 2014 Hey guys, I've been following all the news about the changes in 2.5 ReMIX and I have to say it looks like this time Square outdid themselves. Not only did they go all the way and remaster everything in HD, but they also made some more great changes: * They translated everything! Even the previously Japanese text in the Secret Movies * They dubbed everything! They fully voiced the new scenes in English! * They included capes to make the series consistent! And finally, what I was most afraid of, they handled the KHII Final Mix Secret movies with care: the original movies were in a 4:3 aspect ratio. As I love 16:9, I was hoping a full HD version existed of the Sunset Horizon adn Birth by Sleep movies, as most of the stretched or cropped versions on the web look way off. Here's the final result: Square apparently remastered the movie scene by scene to achieve a perfect movie in tghe new Ratio. Apparently they opened up the ratio to fit it to 16:9 but they also used some zoom and strech to make the characters look more realistic. Anyway, the result is perfect and worthy of an HD Final Mix: STRECH: While in the 4:3 ratio some characters, most of all Xehanort, look kind of distorted, the new stretch is used to make the characters look more realistic. They could have stretched the 4:3 fully without too much distortion but they just wanted to make them proportional again. (Xehanort; also in Mickey and Ven scenes) ZOOM: The new video is slightly zoomed in BUT only in some scenes. It seems the ration the video was created in is not fully 16:9 but they handled this with care. (Mickey Scene and Ven Scene) OPENED UP SIDES: the sides of the video was opened up to show more info. the source material clearly is wider than 4:3 and this opens up a new perspective with landscapes and details we have not seen. (clearly visible in the Xehanort scene) As can be seen in the Xehanort scene, they must have gone through the movie scene by scene because the Xehanort scene uses stretch and opening but no zoom to ensure to have a most authentic presentation. RESULT: Square did handle these techniques with care to achieve a stunning result. With the use of streching the video to make characters look right, zoom to fit the video to the screen and opening up the sides to accomodate the new ratio. In sum, we lose a tiny bit of material in hight but only in some scenes and what we gain in width is much more than what is cropped off. Seems they finally made something right by treating the source material respectfully. What more proof is needed until people recognize HD 1.5 and 2.5 are Square's most perfect remasters and they truly unite KH on one console in the games' best and most complete versions. Well done! 8 Reflet, FerroAxel7, Nero Kunivas and 5 others reacted to this

Outsourcing isn't always the best solution. Who said they weren't making progress on Kingdom Hearts 3 while doing 2.5? You don't need a full team of people to work on a HD remaster, as was evident with 1.5. 7 Roxasrox, Kello, Imoore4 and 4 others reacted to this

And The Jak & Daxter Trilogy also looks great. All were outsourced. That's why we have KH3 still in the very early stages of development.

Remasters should not be top priority.
Shard the Gentleman 2,891 Posted October 6, 2014 People Kingdom Hearts III will happen when it happens. Till then at least they're trying to put out quality remasters instead of half-assing them, and people complaining about that instead. 2 Roxasrox and King_Graham reacted to this
MarkXIIII 106 Posted October 6, 2014 (edited) I doubt 1.5 and 2.5 delayed III by much. I think a DDD HD ReMIX would delay III even more and that's what's most likely gonna happen. And I'm not even mentioning the efforts they put in CHI. Seriously, I'd rather not have another game until KHIII. The ReMIXes were a great idea but they better stick to the plan now. Adam Al-Zawawi 1 Posted October 6, 2014 He seems to be forgetting that Square also remastered FFX and it was freakin beautiful
Setrex 1,031 Posted October 6, 2014 It certainly is when the team is already having to put all of their effort into KHIII. Remasters should not be top priority. Remasters were there to stop people whining that KH3 wasn't available to us. I agree remasters should not be TOP priority inside a company but that doesn't mean they shouldn't be given some priority at least. Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster came out great. Type-0 looks great so far. And The Jak & Daxter Trilogy also looks great. All were outsourced. That's why we have KH3 still in the very early stages of development. Yes but as I said in my previous post, "Outsourcing isn't always the best solution." What works for some games doesn't always work for others, examples being Silent Hill and Zone of Enders. We can agree to disagree but I just don't think you can blame both 1.5 and 2.5 for further delaying KH3. Especially when KH3's development has been hindered by other titles like XV due to Nomura being previously on the project. No doubt with the release of 2.5 we'll be seeing more of KH3 and it won't be years without any word of it.
SolidSnake 13 Posted October 6, 2014 (edited) Yeah, I'm getting a little sick of people b*tching all the time about "Not working hard enough on KH3 and focusing more on the HD Remasters". I seriously think these are the most ignorant of fans. I'm not trying to point the finger at anybody in particular or anything like that. But most fans like that don't even bother with reading interviews or stuff like that. I bet most of them haven't even played one of the handheld games. Because if I recall, I remember seeing an interview that STATED the development of KH 2.5 had NO EFFECT on KH3 at all. I know there are seperate teams working on them and everything, but I honestly can't see the team making the HD Remasters contributing anything major to KH3's development. I mean if Nomura himself said that the development of each game isn't effecting one another, then I don't see any reason not to believe him. Also, I am quite content that they are FINALLY doing this for us Old Fans AND New Fans. I honestly prefer the HD Remasters over the original versions of the game, for obvious reasons. I love the fact they finally ported BBS to a platform console. And as I said before, I would love for them to make a Dream Drop Distance Final Mix or HD Remake for the PS4 or possibly PS3. I mean this is waaayyy better then having to anxiously wait for KH3 and lose anymore fans while waiting for the game (although it's already done that). I mean if the development of an HD Remaster and KH3 doesn't effect either one's development, then I'm content with that. Hell, I'd even be content with just having a few new KH3 trailers every year too. But I mean look at KH3's development right now. It's going just fine, and we even have Nomura back from FFXV to help speed things up. What more do you guys want? The game is coming. Calm the heck down. Yes it may not come out until 2016 or 2017 (please god dont make me wait until 2017 or 2018), but we can be a little more patient until then. Lets just enjoy whatever they have to dish out now and continue waiting, yeah? King_Graham 135 Posted October 7, 2014 I don't want to be that guy, but The secret movies were originally 4:3 though they weren't presented that way.
