Square still tries to trick us with a "demo" keyblade model...

Since they started making the handheld games they started using a model of the keyblade where the key bit with the crown shaped pattern is triangular rather than the "full" prism shape.

 

If you look closely, you'll notice that in HD Days, DDD they used this shape.

I suppose it's to save either memory or rendering resources.

 

What really bugs me is that they stuck to this shape in the HD Days movie.

Sure, one could say that they just planned to remake the game and they wanted to save memory but in some scenes it is fully-fledged and in the new scenes it's the crappy version.

 

What I hate is that they also used this for the new Coded movie.

They never planned to remake that game, so why would they use this half-formed keyblade?

It's really disturbing and I the ink that even the flat paper-keyblade from the original days looked better.

For mobile games, OK, they try to make it look plastic and real but they don't have the resources.

 

BUT ON THE FIRETRUCKING PS3???

AND CODED WAS NEVER EVEN PLANNED AS A GAME!!

 

Come, on. I'm sick of the fact that the original KH1 and 2 games on the PS2 (!!!!!) were not only the games with the best stories (and the fact tat KH still made sense back then) but also that they were using the full resources in order to convey a true visual presentation!

Personally, I would like it if they made it edged like that instead. The edges make it more useful as a weapon.

In fact not really, because you hit with the flat end...

Can you explain what's the difference?

 

I modified the examples.

I think it's just lame they still do that on the PS3 because in the collections they want to create unity and uniformity, they end up with different shapes of the same weapon...

YEah, I know I'm a perfectionist. But since they put a lot of effort in collecting all games on one console and they try to get all games on the same standard, they still could use one model.

 

Even Re:CoM had the full model.

i dont think its much of a big deal, me personally i like that it has a "sharp" edge.

 

Yeah, but it was intended otherwise. It's based on  a classic key, you know.

yeah, but you never even hit with that sharp edge.

Sora only turns it upside down when unlocking doors.

When fighting he always hits with the flat end and that bit protruding from the blade never even meets the opponent.

 

He could use a tricking broomstick and it would have the same impact.

The key is actually stroked from the back end of the blade aka the shaft, but the teeth could be incorporated for sharp-force strikes and hooking motions, as well as quick cleaving strikes and weapon breaks.

A sword is greater than one of its edges, even if it's only single-edged, the flat side can still be an effective weapon as well. Case in point, the Katana, or Samurai Sword. The style of the fighting incorporates use of every part of the weapon to attack and deal damage, from its small guard to even the end gap or dull side.

I see your point, but the Keyblade probably is hard to render due to it being flung around so much in DAYS and Coded, so Square decided to save a few bucks.

Wait. So you are complaining about such a tiny difference? I barely even noticed. Haven't seen OCD this extreme...

Because I get to pay the full prize for it. Square doesn't lower the prize by 2/3s just because they got rid of 2/3s of the keyblade!

 

 

Be honest, would you buy the full prize for a letter that is delivered 2/3 of the way?

Or an ice cream box that includes 2/3 of what says to be included on the box?

I don't see a problem with it. It's common for animators to make mistakes.

From what I see in some of you examples, the Keyblade is at an angle. 

I don't think anybody cares. They will see the mistake, joke about it, and just carry on of what they are doing.

Ok, as a bit of a perfectionist myself, I can see where you're coming from, however I don't see this as being that big of a deal to fret over that much. You have to keep in mind though, they're using the models from DDD. That's why particular characters like Sora in Kingdom Hearts 1 had more detail (his eyelashes were more noticable) and the Kingdom Key had the two rings above the rain guard like in KH2 and all of the official art. The teeth were that way in DDD because they had to work on things like memory and space. If you recal, the Keyblades in Birth by Sleep were going to be very detailed like they are now before the final release on the PSP. Thing is though, I only recall one key instance (haha, puns) in I.5, it was either in KH Final Mix or Re:CoM...maybe both, where the teeth of the Kingdom Key were pointed as they were in DDD, but then afterwords it went back to the traditional cubic shape that it was supposed to have. I guess it was a goof up or something.

 

But while I noticed it primarily in Days and was kind of thrown off by it a little, it wasn't that much of an issue for me. Yeah, it would have been nice if they had used the KH2 rendering of the Keyblade rather than DDD, but does it really matter if that was the only real significant difference? At least it WASN'T the pixelated version from the original Days and Re:coded, that would have been terrible. Besides, Days, Re:coded, and DDD were all Nintendo games, I think it's kind of fitting. It just sort of reminds you "Oh hey, this was on a Nintendo system once just like DDD, so that render sort of makes sense"...or not, it could just be me. Anyway, while I do find it strange that that one simple detail wasn't something they felt needed to be worked on in those scenes (the capes and multiplayer I can understand and deal with, but we are talking about the rendering of the main weapon of the game here, one that already exists in one of the bundled games), it doesn't ruin the experience to me. If anything, it almost feels sort of...right. In a way. I'm not saying that's how I want it to be rendered in Kingdom Hearts III. Far from it! But as for my experience with I.5 and II.5, it doesn't really detract from the fun I'll have with the game itself. It's just too much fun. Hope you can get over this glaring issue though, cause I really do think there are better things to think about than that.

Obviously not. But things like this can be ignored. If you see it as such a big problem, don't buy the game. Simple.
