Review:RockMan XOver(let me go prepare MegaMan's funeral)

Capcom, firetruck you. You had to make just one game celebrating 25 years of your mascot franchise,and this is the result. This might be the worst handheld game of all time. This atrocity has no other reason to exist than to tell the fanbase,"You all suck." Four games died for this. FOUR! I cannot tell you properly how disappointed and pissed I am with Capcom for this. Let me just elaborate as to why this heinous insult to gaming killed the MegaMan franchise.

 

Story: All of the main villains throughout the MegaMan timeline have joined together and captured all of the MegaMen. To stop the villains, Dr. Light and Cossack make a new MegaMan, named MegaMan Over-1,and sets off on a journey to rescue the MegaMen and stop the villains from taking over the world. Honestly, the story sucks. Usually, MegaMan games, along with their frantic and fun gameplay, have told rather deep and interesting narratives, the best examples being X4 and the MegaMan Legends games. I wasn't expecting a story like those games, but I at least expected one that didn't feel half-assed and unintriguing. For God's sake, MegaMan Soccer's plot was better than this.

 

 

Graphics: This was made off the same engine as the MegaMan X iOS port, and that didn't have the best graphics that could have been implemented. This game looks terrible, as there are visual glitches constantly and the game's framerate make's Sonic 06's look smooth.

 

Music:Okay, to this abomination's credit, the music is pretty awesome.Each song is well-made and fun to listen to. This is the ONLY redeemable part of the game, and it might make you want to play this game, if YouTube didn't exist.

 

Gameplay:No, just, no. The basic gameplay setup is an on-rails 2D shooter. All you do is jump and shoot. They even managed to firetruck that up, as not only is it technically awful because it crashes on a regular basis, but it is extremely BORING!! For as bad as MegaMan X7 was, I was at least entertained with it and felt that my purchase wasn't in vain. This, on the other hand, made me feel ripped off, and it was free. The boss fights are extremely effortless and the levels are incredibly horrible. There is no fun to be had with this game. And when I said that it was on-rails, I mean that while in other ORSs, you can at least move a little bit. You can't,here. You are stuck in one position for the whole game. I'm almost done, but there is still one more thing I need to get off my chest.

 

Rants: Now this is the big one. Picture this: four games of one of your favorite series of all-time have been shelved. The series' milestone anniversary is on the rise and you expect something that can salvage all of the recently cancelled games. When the game releases, it doesn't meet your expectations. In fact, it may be one of the worst things ever. That's this. The game feels exponentially effortless and soulless. It's like the team didn't even care for the 25th anniversary of the series that put you on the map, made you who you are today, and you aren't even grateful enough to put it on a gaming platform, and only for a device where gaming is pretty much neutered. Four potentially amazing games have died for this spawn of hell to exist!

 

Final Verdict: I take back what I said about Ride to Hell being the worst game I have ever played. Ride to Hell is the next Persona 3 compared to this. RockMan XOver is the Bubsy 3D of handhelds. There is nothing salvageable to offer that can't be found on YouTube, the gameplay is horrendous, the graphics are terrible, and the story is paper-thin. This might be the worst game I have ever played. I cannot stress this enough:DO NOT PLAY THIS PIECE OF CRAP!!!
