Firaga 5,947 Posted January 19, 2015 (edited) On 1/18/2015 at 9:09 PM, Shulk said: I know I'm late on this, but I just watched the first two episodes of the new Chunin Exam filler. While I'm kind of excited, these two episodes bothered me to almost the same level as Xiaolin Chronicles (A comparison only Firaga would understand) SPOILERS: Click to reveal There is NO CONSISTENCY WITH THESE. It takes place two years after the end of the first series, and they apparently haven't held a SINGLE Chunin Exam since the one that was interrupted by Orochimaru. So what, does EVERY SINGLE Leaf Genin jump to Chunin in this one exam? How the heck did Gaara climb the ranks to reach Kazekage without having an opportunity to prove his skills as a Chunin? Did he really just go from Genin to Kage level in the course of two years? Even Naruto fought hard to eventually become Hokage when he was older, he didn't get a free pass like Gaara apparently did according to this filler arc. How does Neji become a Jonin after half a year? Did he really manage to prove his skills that quickly? I know this is filler, but holy crap, there are so many inconsistencies here that it honestly made me pause the episode a few times to explain to my brother how horribly flawed the logic here is. I absolutely love Naruto. It's my favorite show, my favorite manga, and one of my favorite stories of all time. I love the entire series, even the ending which so many people seemed to have a problem with. But this filler arc... It honestly pissed me off. If they hadn't thrown it in at such a horrible time in the anime's plot, or hyped it up, I doubt I'd be this mad about it. It's the fact that Pierrot was advertising it for ages and building it up, only to show it's the most inconsistent part of the storyline that we've EVER GOTTEN. I guess I just never realized this would be an issue with it before hand, but the fact that everyone apparently makes the jump from Genin to their current ranks, and gets to the point they're at in Shippuden over the course of half a year is just ridiculous to me. I'll probably get a lot of crap for this, but this filler arc has been pissing me off. I know I don't need to watch it, but I was actually really excited about it, and I'm not happy about how it's turning out so far. I honestly hope that the action will make it worth the horrible plot. I was hoping this would be something that could still seem canon, like that Kakashi filler arc, but I'm really disappointed with how they're handling the plot with this arc. Go ahead, call me an idiot for not understanding something, or for expecting something better. I just wanted to speak my mind about this. SPOILERS: Click to reveal You're really getting uppity over nothing. Gaara even as a Genin was already Kage material. He's a freaking Jinchuriki after all. Of course he'd already jump to Kage level based on his skills alone. Bear in mind that this is two years after the point in time where Naruto left Hidden Leaf to train with Jiraiya. Pretty sure two years of hard work is credible enough to earn you that type of rank. That also leaves more room for his personal conflict of convincing the Hidden Sand higher ups to trust to take hold of his little character arc. As for Neji, well, he's Neji. One of the smartest shinobi of his generation, considered "Rookie of the Year" at one point if I'm not mistaken, was even somewhat hyped up to fight Sasuke at one point in Part 1 (which kinda sucks because that never happened). It doesn't surprise me that after he's bumped up to Chunin in this arc, he'll move on to Jonin. Becoming Chunin and Jonin isn't really as hard as you think either, at least when it comes to the really smart and talented crop of ninja. Take Kakashi for example: he was Jonin by age thirteen (I think), not to mention he even graduated from the academy at age five and became a Chunin merely one year later. Honestly, its sort of like favoritism among the entirety of the ninja population if you really want to stretch it, but yeah. On 1/18/2015 at 9:53 PM, Weedanort said: SPOILERS: Click to reveal There's no need to show Naruto's training in this filler arc whatsoever They need to: - Give Fuu's backstory - Actually start showing those characters they said that they would be of importance - Stop being inconsistent SPOILERS: Click to reveal You're being a weenie too. Of course Naruto's training is going to be sprinkled in here and there. It's not like we're going to ignore the main character, he was doing his own stuff in the training period too. And they're even showing him in his Tailed Beast Cloak. Who didn't want to see that? Even so, the arc is called "Naruto's Back" i.e. Naruto's friends, so obviously we're not going to stray from the Hidden Leaf's role in the story. The Chunin Exams can't just happen though, there's set up and rules and things that needed to fall in place, like everything we were shown in these first two episodes (well, maybe not everything. I doubt that us going through Sakura's "denial arc" in the last part of the second episode was needed...). Also, we don't need Fuu's backstory. We know the bare essentials: She's a Jinchuriki, she has the Seven Tails, she's from Waterfall Village, she's a happy go lucky tomboy, blah blah blah. Its not like she needs some hyper-tragic backstory to really sell the theme of pain and loneliness that most Jinchuriki already have. Look at her, she's not a tragic character at all. She's pretty much the girl version of Killer B except, you know, she doesn't rap. Not all Jinchuriki need the same emotional weight as Gaara or Naruto; some of them are fine with their lives as Jinchuriki and just live life to the fullest. What's wrong with that? Its definitely a lot better than sticking in more depressing events for them because honestly, it just makes the Shinobi World a lot crappier to live in anyway. So yeah, get her in the exams, have her fight some of the genin, maybe help introduce the concept of Jinchuriki to them, and then get captured by the Akatsuki. Done and done. Firaga 5,947 Posted January 24, 2015 So I was watching videos based on a bunch of drama that went on between some YouTube anime/manga reviewers and their fans (none of which I regularly watch, I just liked laughing at all the stupidity), and I ran into a video by somebody named CodeProvider. Apparently, he was unofficially mentioned by Kishimoto in an interview with him and Hiroaki Samura (famous mangaka and creator of "Blade of the Immortal", a manga series that Kishimoto was a fan of in college) where Kishimoto brought up Western reviewers of Naruto on YouTube. The person Kishimoto described apparently sounded like he hated the series (CP can be pretty negative from what I hear) and that he noticed he had BofI posters on his wall, and wanted to see his reaction to him getting an interview with the manga's author, Samura. Naturally, CP made a video about it. I don't actually know if that's true or not, but blegh, can't search through every other anime/manga reviwer with "BotI" posters on their walls, so f*ck it, let's assume that he's right. Here's his reaction: ... Yeah... Just to clarify, Kishimoto and Samura were kinda joking around and bringing up the fact that Kishimoto was astonished by how much hate he was getting by CP's particular video of him being negative about Naruto. This is just an example of how egotistical and ignorant that some of these people can be. I mean, I can understand the thrill of at least being mentioned in the slightest by Masashi Kishimoto, but CP is acting like Kishimoto loves his videos and that he thinks he's the best anime/manga reviewer on YouTube now... I've already commented on the video about how I feel about this. So yeah, in general what I'm trying to say is: The Naruto community, as well as the anime community in general, is full of idiots. Soravids 1,056 Posted March 7, 2015 Okay, so I hear that the main story for Naruto Shippuden ended at episode 393, yet episodes are still being released. I'm assuming these are fillers so I wonder two things... 1: How long will the fillers last? 2: Are they as exciting as the main story? If anyone could answer these questions I'd be grateful. Right now I've finished all 220 episodes of the first Naruto and I'm on episode 193 of Shippuden. It's been really great so far! I love it! I haven't watched any of the movies though. Lol. Like Firaga said, the story's not over. They just thought it'd be a fantastic idea to go and throw filler in right before the final arc, even though the manga's been finished for 3 months now. No word on when this filler will end. The filler's kinda hit and miss with a lot of fans. It has its good moments, but (As I've discussed with a few other people on this thread) it's also really frustrating how they completely screw some things up. There aren't really any spoilers in it for the point you're at, but if you don't mind spoiling some minor plot points about the filler arc itself (Which is a flashback), I'll leave some potential issues in a spoiler tag. SPOILERS: Click to reveal It takes place 2 years after the Chunin Exams arc from Part 1, and apparently, they haven't held a single one since then. Despite this, Kankuro and Temari, who were never promoted after the previous exam, are now jonin. There are a few others, but I don't want to end up accidentally spoiling something, so I'll leave it at that. I mean, it's all up to you if you want to watch it or not. Just letting you know that a lot of fans haven't liked the filler so far. Also, this is unrelated, but when you finish the anime, there's actually a canon movie written by Kishimoto that takes place after Shippuden. It's not available anywhere since it was just shown in theaters, but it's called The Last: Naruto the Movie. You'll want to watch that after Shippuden if you want to understand the entire story. I managed to go see it, and I can definitely say it's worth watching (And now I remember that I was going to give my thoughts on the movie on here... I'll do that soon I guess). 3 Reyn, Soravids and Firaga reacted to this
