Kingdom Hearts HD 2.5 ReMIX has a new demo at Tokyo Game Show 2014 (+ demo impressions)

Recommended Posts

As we've reported previously, Kingdom Hearts HD 2.5 ReMIX is featuring at Tokyo Game Show 2014 with a playable demo. Previously, the exact same demo has been used to show off HD 2.5 ReMIX at trade shows-- but now, for the first time since Jump Festa in December 2013, a new demo is being shown off.

Thanks to KHUltimania, we know that the Tokyo Game Show 2014 demo features the main menu of the game, with Kingdom Hearts II Final Mix and Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep Final Mix selectable, but Kingdom Hearts Re:coded unavailable. In Birth by Sleep, you can play as Terra in the Castle of Dreams, and in Kingdom Hearts II, you can play through Space Paranoids. KHUltimania's impressions are included below:

Spoiler

Kingdom Hearts 2.5 HD was playable at the show floor at Tokyo Game Show 2014.

I attended the show and played through the game for 20 minutes.

As the game first loads, you’re presented with a menu that features the games Cover Art and choice of selecting Kingdom Hearts 2, Birth by Sleep or Coded.

The first two were available to try in the demo.

First up I tried by Birth By Sleep.

Overall the game looks stunning in HD, in particular the 3D Character Models and surrounding scenery – I played as Terra in Cinderella’s castle.

The character models look like they are much higher in resolution than their PSP originals and particularly shine during the cutscenes.

Although, the option menu’s in the game look a little pixelated on the big screen, perhaps the original art files were lost during development – but this is just a small detail in what is a game that should of arrived in console format years ago, as it plays great.

The controls are fairly similar to earlier Kingdom Hearts games on the Playstation and you’ll be spending a lot of time manually changing the camera angle using the R3 Analog Stick as the camera is as troublesome as ever.

Next up was Kingdom Hearts 2 Final Mix in which I tried the Space Paranoids / Tron level briefly before demo time was up.

Again the in-game character models look great, but haven’t aged as well as Birth By Sleep.

Noticeably the ‘Human’ characters look a little bit out of place in full HD when they blended quite well into the original game, perhaps because the character models were really impressive at the time (in 2005!).

Other than that, it’s simply a nice HD upgrade of what is now an iconic game.

We'll update with more demo impressions as they're released.
