Final Fantasy XIII series - Discussion Topic - Final Fantasy XIII trilogy is hugely successful for Square Enix

Recommended Posts

I loved the XIII Series; don't know why everyone hates it. Well, I mean I do, but I don't think that it deserves the hate it gets.

Yes, XIII series is an amazing series by Motomu Toriyama and his team.

Final Fantasy XIII has outsold Final Fantasy VIII on Steam and is now the 2nd best selling Final Fantasy game on Steam. It now sits on 480,000 copies sold. Final Fantasy XIII-2 has also now sold over 255,000 copies on Steam.

Uh...I think you mean bumping. But, if you really mean "pumping up," the XIII series will never stop pumping us up. >: )

But of course. The XIII games keep selling and getting released on new platforms.

FF13 has horrible pacing issues. I hated the first 10 hours of the game and rage quit. I played 13-2 and enjoyed it from the start. That then gave me the motivation to finish 13 and I eventually enjoyed that after another 10 hours or so.

I thought the pacing was perfect. Haha.

I prefer faster paced games. Nearly every game mechanic should be introduced within the first few hours. I also hated the character switching, it felt contrived how they separated up the characters. Once all the characters came together and you could choose your own team it became enjoyable to me. It felt way too on rails for my taste up to then.

The difference being, of course, that Mad Max did it well, delivering on what was expected from the genre while over delivering on several other fronts, including story, characters, the action itself and the momentum with which it was presented, and visuals, while XIII, as it were, did not.

Hmm, I can understand this article's points when it comes to the flaws. The terminology in the beginning is confusing at first to the player, but it gradually reveals itself later on and begins to make sense.

The author's point about the characters not coming into their own until a few hours in is kind of true, too, I guess; after all, when

I first played the game, I felt indifferent about Hope despite his backstory. It was only after we delved into his emotions and way

of thinking that I began to sympathize with him. When Sazh was first introduced, I liked him immediately solely because I liked

him as a comic relief. But when I heard the story about his family, I felt like he was just a broken man in need of answers/guidance, which

led me to like him even more as a character.

I could go deep into the characters, but I've made my point.

I admit, the fast-paced combat and constant sense of being on the run is what made XIII enjoyable to me. There was no calm atmosphere,

because someone (the Sanctum) was always after you. That's pretty much what makes XIII one of my favorite FF games.

It did so. Maybe not to someone like you but for plenty of other people it did. Japan and Asia in particular love the XIII games.

People keep pushing the sales numbers as if that's indicative of quality.

You can dislike the games if you want, but they keep selling, they're critically acclaimed, they're award winning, hugely successful, keep getting ported and the people who made it are massive deals in Square Enix. Oh and the main character is now a model seen all around the world.

My point still stands.

My point still stands.

Yeah, it stands but does Square Enix or the games fanbase care? Nopee

Please be excited for Motomu Toriyama's new project which is likely X-3.

"The characters were wonderful though"lolI liked FFXIII, but the characters were one of the weakest part of it. I loved FFXIII-2, though. None of the main characters were annoying like Snow, Vanille, and Hope were in XIII, and they actually had interesting motivations.

I thoroughly enjoyed the cast.

Though we only really played as him in XIII, Sazh was always my favorite character. He seemed like a nice guy in an undesirable situation and a sad predicament.

Also, when you said "please be excited":

I'm sorry, I had to.

Google are launching a Chromecast set-top box tomorrow in Japan and with it comes Final Fantasy XIII Google Cast Edition. It seems to have faster speeds than Apple TV, Fire TV etc and you'll also be able to play other games like Angry Birds.
