Did any of you go through a weeaboo phase? If so, what confessions do you want to share?

I never had a "weeaboo" phase. I only really watch anime or Youtube anymore because TV seems weird to me and not entertaining, but I'm mode of the time gaming anyway. I make a lot of weeaboo jokes, however. Like a lot. Seriously an unhealthy, ungodly amount.

I don't think i have. Though i sometimes like to sing in Japanese. But only because i repeat the song so many times (like Hikari by Utada Hikaru, for instance), that the words are stuck in my head and i can remember them.

I never had a weeaboo phase, either. The worst I got was there was a short time when I hated English dubs, but... That's completely reversed now.

The first one is cringy, yeah but that Hinata one strikes me as just...sad. Like I'd honestly feel so sorry for someone who does that. Not in a mocking way, my heart would just genuinely go out to them. Don't see what's wrong with the third one though, if you're going to learn a language you're gonna need to hear a lot of it and watching foreign shows in the language is the way to go if you can't handle or afford going to live there.

When I was younger I could sing every Naruto opening and Naruto Shippuden Opening up to number 7 but I actually was told I sounded good and my japanese wasn't slurred at all

I never went through a weeaboo phase so much as general inappropriately nerdy phase. You're looking at someone who, in middle school, was so obsessed with Sonic she'd bring the Sonic Adventure 2 strategy guide with her to school and read it during breaks, despite it not even being an actual book to read. For all I know I did it for the sake of attracting fellow nerds (hint: it didn't work, although a good friend I still have today was met by him bringing Sonic comics to read).

hell yea!! My weeabo phase lasted quite a while though now that I look back at it lmao

 

But good thing is having gone through a weeabo phase helped me to develop the interest to wanting learn to read/write/speak japanese. So now whenever I sing any jpop, I can now at least understand what the heck the song is trying to convey instead of looking like a fool (which I always look like anyway lol).

 

It really starts off FROM an obsession which gradually GROWS into an appreciation for said culture. I really do think one would learn more foul language from watching anime then they would for normal conervsations ハナシ ~ is all i'm sayin'

 

Weeabo phase is normal, if you said you didn't go through one - you may not be entirely truthful, no matter how big or small a fanboy/girl exists in you - a tiny weeabo phase is still a weeabo phase 

 

with that said, some of the weeabo phase activities listed sound quite extreme...Talking in a Moe kawaii voice and having to maintain that for a year I would consider that to be pathological in nature.

When I was on fifht/sixth grade, I thought that I knew more than I really did about anime/manga.

I also had a phase when I thought I had to "proof myself" by watching M-rated anime -> results in watching anime such as Elfen Lied at the age of 12. Good thing I didn't discover hentai or anything.

I don't remember much, but I remember being an overall awkward person back then. I quess that's just normal.

I was using the slang Cucco  used cause I had no idea of what it meant.

As to that, The Japanese culture is ok, but nothing to obsess over.....
