atheist123 583 Posted September 6, 2014 (edited) Kotaku conducted an interview with Final Fantasy XV's co-director Hajime Tabata. During the interview, he mentioned the potential fate of Square Enix's console development if FFXV bombs... So in terms of whether console games will be received moving forward, it's not to say that I don't have any concerns at all, but I believe that it'll really depend on how Final Fantasy XV does. Because I really want more people to enjoy games in the living room, on a big screen. If Final Fantasy XV doesn't do well, perhaps there's not much of a future for console games. It kind of really depends on how that goes. While his opinion isn't indicative of Square Enix in general, it is worrying that Sakaguchi and other Square Enix employees might give up on console development if FFXV fails. I pray that this doesn't happen, but it very well could. Hopefully Kingdom Hearts survives the changes that might occur at Square Enix. The rest of the Kotaku article is very interesting as well, as it discusses the state of Japanese game development, among other things: http://kotaku.com/the-final-fantasy-xv-problem-1631021969?utm_campaign=Socialflow_Kotaku_Facebook&utm_source=Kotaku_Facebook&utm_medium=Socialflow Edited September 6, 2014 by atheist123

Sorarocks93 678 Posted September 6, 2014 (edited) I like how he says "perhaps there's not much of a future for console games".... As if Square's games dictate that. And what are they going to do? Make games for mobile? What kind of profit does that give them even? Gah. Square is so out of sync with the rest of the gaming industry it almost hurts. The Kotaku article goes into how Final Fantasy has led the way for Japanese games. From making 3D games to releasing games in the west, the Final Fantasy series had been a leader for JRPGs and Japanese game Console gaming will survive in the west, but Japanese games hinge very crucially on Japan, and Japan's console market is dying. I think you have Hironobu Sakaguchi and Hajime Tabata mixed up Hironobu Sakaguchi doesn't work for Square Enix anymore and Hajime Tabata is the co-director of FFXV Oh yes, sorry. I thought I had changed that lol. The Kotaku interview mentioned Tabata but I wrote Sakaguchi for some reason lol. atheist123 583 Posted September 6, 2014 And soon they'll announce XVI from Ito and another game from Kitase & Toryiama. I really don't know what's going on with Square Enix, and what they're going to do. I don't think they should announce any new Final Fantasy games until FFXV releases. They should see what happens with that game before deciding what to do next... I would rather Final Fantasy and SE survive than them try and produce heaps of costly AAA Final Fantasy games and bankrupt themselves.

Yeah, there's plenty of evidence that suggests XVI is in development with Ito directing using Project Flare. Yeah, X-3 is most likely however a VII remake is also possible. 1 WakelessDream reacted to this

Well if they are far into development atleast don't announce it until XV is out. Unless they want to piss off their fans even further. Yeah, there's plenty of evidence that suggests XVI is in development with Ito directing using Project Flare. Yeah, X-3 is most likely however a VII remake is also possible. That sounds good. I wonder if it will still use the Luminous Engine. Assuming Project Flare won't require a new engine that is...
