Buttercup Camera 229 Posted September 1, 2014 (edited) I was once a great fan of reading. Unlike many other kids back then, I used to read lots of books. Beast Quest, Five, Horrid Henry, Disney Comics, Disney Books, Spy Dog, Cherub, etc... Beast Quest was my favorite. I'd eait for a whole year for a new pack of 6 books that I'd instantly buy everytime I got the chance. Read like 30 of those... and then there was this time... where I waited over 2 and a half year for a book... never saw anything new since them. I decided to do a research and discovered that the original Beast Quest, by Adam Blade was written and launched in UK and it has over 60 books. Quite impressive, isn't it? Well, in Portugal there's only like 30... I totally gave up on this franchise. Spy Dog lost me when they removed the main character and replaced her with her pups. Disney Comics stopped around 2006 that I'm aware and came back at 2012 with crappy, repetitive, recycled and cliché stories. I still buy and read these comics, but it just doesn't feel the same as the old ones and the ones from Carl Barks. Haven't heard anything new from Horrid Henry. Cherub started to get too unrealistic for my taste. Children of 10 years old doing things that some adults can't... too muhc violence against kids. When I saw the movie of Carrie, Stephen King, I immediately wanted to read the book so much that I ordered it from a a store on a different city. Hated it. It didn't make any sense and Carried looked like an idiot to me... the way it ended wasn't quite good... As a kid I used to love The Chronicles of Narnia and my heart was broken when I found that there wasn't going to be a movie anytime soon, so I decided to get the books and hated them. Too childish and religious for my taste unlike the movies. I was going to read the Harry Potter books until I saw the sixth movie. Because of many bad and sad things... you can say that I lost my hunger for books. The only decent books that I've read recently were the Assassin's Creed ones... Arya Stark 1,337 Posted September 1, 2014 Sounds like you need to try reading masterpieces instead of modern bestsellers... 3 Neptune Vasilias, Zola and Cucco reacted to this
MasterXemnas 2,285 Posted September 1, 2014 Fool. You should read Howl's moving castle. Or the Davinci Code. One flew over the Coocoo's nest.
Dave 5,715 Posted September 1, 2014 Read "Leviathan." It's like Calvin and Hobbes, only without Calvin.
Oishii 3,987 Posted September 1, 2014 (edited) I know what you mean. I'm getting really irritated with how much books revolve more around romantic relationships than what's going on in the universe. It seems like every YA does it and adult books feel the need to include sex scenes like it can't be an adult book without it. It's really hard for me to find a good book that realizes that there is more to life than making relationships. Edit: And if it interests you, I'm reading the Ender Game series and they are very good. Very intelligently written with many complex characters. Hardrada 117 Posted September 1, 2014 Get a better taste in books.
Movies798 1,358 Posted September 1, 2014 I still recommend that you should read Harry Potter and Precy Jackson. Including Heroes of Olympus and Kane chronicles. Hunger Games is also good book in my opinion.
Stray Reaper 143 Posted September 1, 2014 I would recommend anything by Gaiman. Skip Sandman though it is a really hard read to get through.
