Sony's pre-Tokyo Game Show 2014 conference is today

With Sony's press conference in about 16 hours and Tokyo Game Show just around the corner I've decided to do my predictions for this month in regards to Square Enix.

 

I've enjoyed good success in the most part of predicting Square Enix-related things including predicting that Versus XIII would be re-announced as Final Fantasy XV for PlayStation 4 at E3 2013. I also correctly predicted (among other things) an October release in Japan for HD 2.5 ReMIX so they could promote it at Tokyo Game Show. So hopefully I get something right again now or even later on down the track.

 

Please note: These are simply predictions, if you're against the idea of something please don't make a big deal about it.

 

#1 New trailer for Final Fantasy XV. The time is right for a new trailer. Shinji Hashimoto hinted at it and there have been rumours. I do not expect a release window just yet though. A January or February 2016 release would not surprise me however.

 

#2 New trailers for Kingdom Hearts HD 2.5 ReMIX & Final Fantasy Explorers. Pretty much a given.

 

#3 Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn expansion pack. I feel they may announce this, but it wouldn't surprise me either way.

 

#4 Final Fantasy VII G-Bike release date. It's about time we got one.

 

#5 A new remake from Matrix Software. I'm expecting another remake from Matrix Software announced. They did it for The After Years last year. I'm hoping for Final Fantasy IV Interlude. I don't think they will do a remake for V or VI just yet since Matrix Software just remastered them.

 

#6 No Kingdom Hearts III. I am not expecting any new content related to Kingdom Hearts III outside of interview details.

 

#7 Final Fantasy Type-0 HD trailer and release window. Considering they're already showing press 30 minutes of gameplay and can say it's coming by August 2015.

 

#8 Final Fantasy XII HD Remaster. Kitase confirmed he would like to see it remastered it at E3 2013 and there has been rumours along with new merchandise relating to XII.

 

#9 Motomu Toriyama & Yoshinori Kitase announce their new project. They might want to delay this until they have more to show/reveal or want to focus on FFXV this time but whatever they do I'm honestly not 100% sure what it will be...

 

There's been a lot of activity, rumours and releases in the past couple years that suggest multiple things. Kazushige Nojima's infamous novel published by Square Enix, confession he'd like to work on a X-3, an audio drama he worked with Tetsuya Nomura on and Kitase's public confirmation he'd like to work with Nojima again not to mention the success of Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster suggest a Final Fantasy X-3. I'm not a fan of the novel or audio drama but it cannot end there they must finish the story once and for all. A return to turn-based-combat would be nice too.

 

On the other hand, there's been a lot of rumours, merchandise and releases relating to Final Fantasy VII and it's 20th anniversary occurs in 2017 aka the series' 30th anniversary. Could we finally be getting a Final Fantasy VII remake for PlayStation 4?

 

I do not think they'll be making Final Fantasy XVI. It seems very likely that Hiroyuki Ito and the remains of his FFXII team is making XVI.

 

That's about it, whatever happens I hope they announce things.

Something tells me that there will be KH3 Trailers,no matter how much the impossible may be. I mean, this is Nomura we're talking about and since he want to make his fans more patient,he can just give the trailer as a touch possibly...

I doubt we'll see a look at the new Final Fantasy XIV expansion pack. Yoshida has stated before that an expansion every two years is the aim (and to be fair that's pretty much the normal for MMOs in most cases). However, I do think a look at the next big Patch for the game is more likely. Patch 2.4 will be adding Rogue/Ninja as well as good bit more content so we might see a trailer or release date for that.

 

But overall your predictions for Square Enix is pretty much to the point and they really need a big TGS this year. They need to show more FFXV, more Type-0 and I would really like them to bring remakes of V and VI as well as a XII HD remaster to the table. If Square don't come out guns blazing for TGS then it'll  just frustrate a lot of people unfortunately.

FFXII remaster? I've played FFXII and love that game, but do you really think it warrants a remaster? I mean it doesn't look that bad. If FFXV is released February 2016 it would be the best news ever!!

1. No trailer we will probably get an interview talking about XV and then maybe get a trailer at jump festa. 2. Yes a new trailer. 3-5 could go either way for me. 6. Same thing I said about XV probably an interview talking about it but we won't see anything until maybe Jump Festa 7. I do expect a trailer since they announced how far along they are and they already have a se what of a release window I'm guessing they will put the release date out and expect it to be in May. 8. As much as I would like that to happen I don't see it happening yet but square does do some surprises at TGS. 9. I'm indifferent

 

For most of the time I've been watching TGS Square seems to have a fair show to show everyone so hopefully this year will be no different

I don't think they will announce FFXII HD yet. With XV and Type-0 on the horizon, I don't think they will bother announcing another console HD remaster. They might announce it next year after Type-0 releases (to make the wait for XV less painful...).

 

A 3DS remake seems likely. They probably have something else planned for 3DS other than Bravely Second and Final Fantasy Explorers.

It's called making it playable on modern hardware. Currently you can only play it on the discontinued PS2.

I don't have any fears that the expansion wouldn't hit the PS3. After all the last FF11 expansion still got a release on the PS2 last year in Japan so..

 

If they were to announce an expansion at all then I'm not sure it'll be at Sony's conference. But hey, we'll have to wait and see after all the game is on both PS3 & PS4 so anything could happen.

And it looks like we won't get anything on KH3 outside of interviews and a release date for G-Bike is looking extremely likely since they have a whole feature on it and it's already confirmed to be released in the next few months.
