Reyn 1,755 Posted August 20, 2014 Everyday i see people criticizing Sora's attitude in 3D, that he was even more naive and idiotic in this game, than in any other of the games he's starred in. And i'm not going to say this is false or anything, this is definitely the truth, and most people don't like it. However, most people don't actually seem to bring up or think about WHY, he acts like this in this game, instead of acting like he did in the other ones. If you think about it, he actually has alot of reasons for acting like this, and thus justifies his intelligence in 3D. That being said, it's not neccessarily a good thing, i'm just saying that it is justified. First off, think about Sora's situation in both Kingdom Hearts I and II(not going to go in COM, his memories were being screwed with and that completely changed his personality at points, like when all he was obsessed with was saving Namine). In KHI, Sora had his home destroyed and was given the responsibility of saving the worlds with the keyblade. That was a pretty heavy thing to put him on from the start, given he was just a kid at this point, who knew nothing about the other worlds until now. Not to mention it didn't help that during all of this, Riku was turning over to the dark side, and Kairi was basically in a coma and was missing for most of the game, so that was a pretty big personal conflict for him aswell, given that he was basically losing his friends in all of this and that there was a good chance he wouldn't be able to save them. So while he did maintain his happy, go-lucky attitude during his adventure, he obviously wasn't super laid back like he was in 3D given these events and tried to handle the situation as seriously as he could. Sure, he still did follow his heart every now and then, but he definitely took the situation at hand seriously, and didn't act like too much of a naive child because of that. And in the end, he did end up saving the worlds from Ansem SOD, and he got Kairi back to their home safe and sound, but Riku got trapped in the RoD, and thus, his journey continued. Flashforward a year later to KHII, once again Sora's on another mission to save the worlds from the "Evil" Organization XIII. It was already established from the beginning that this journey would be harder than his first, and for all Sora knew at this point, Riku was probably still in the RoD, fending off heartless or that he could possibly be consumed by his darkness already. At this time, Sora also started to realize that as long as he could wield the keyblade, the heartless wouldn't stop trying to attack the worlds and he wouldn't have the chance to go back to a normal care-free life like any normal teenager would. It didn't help that things got even more hectic and serious when Kairi ended up getting kidnapped by the Organization, and Sora couldn't find Riku until the end of the game. Given all of these events, it's obvious Sora was trying to put on a brave front and not stop pushing himself until he finally made sure his friends and the worlds were safe and sound, and he could finally end his journey. He took this journey very seriously aswell, which explains why he wasn't incredibly naive and idiotic 24/7(at least, not to 3D's levels). Now, let's take a look at 3D. Prior to taking the Mark of Mastery, Sora had already saved all of the worlds from Xehanort, TWICE, and was arguably the strongest keyblade wielder at this point. He finally got his friends back safe and sound, and had the chance to relax and bask in the peace that he had helped bring about with his actions, and finally just take a break from saving the world for a few months and be carefree, like any normal kid. Then he and Riku were asked to take the Mark of Mastery and prove that they were worthy of being Masters in preparation for stopping. Xehanort a third time. Keep in mind, the Mark of Mastery was intended just to be a test of their skills and to help them use the keyblades the proper way. It wasn't supposed to be a live threatening journey at all, Xehanort rigging the exam was never intended to happen, it was originally just supposed to be what Yen Sid it was: A test, and that's it. So think about Sora's state of mind at this point. This is a naive, optimistic, carefree kid who originally spent the first 14 years of his life on the Islands with his two best friends that got thrown into this keyblade wielding business out of nowhere, with no training or any warning prior at all. And despite all that, he managed to save his friends and all of the worlds in existence, twice in a row. Not to mention he was one of the strongest Keyblade wielders at this point, and had braved many trials to get this far. This test was just supposed to re-learn him in wielding the keyblade, as opposed to his last 2 journeys which called for him to take them seriously, as he had to save the worlds from these many threats. Another point to bring up is that in 3D, he didn't really have any impending personal dilemnas to worry about, like how in his last 2 journeys, he had to worry about Kairi's wherabouts and safety and Riku's conflict and struggle against the darkness. Given these new circumstances, and Sora's previous sucesses, he most likely didn't see any point in trying to take the situation too seriously(remember, no one had any idea Xehanort rigged this), so he just acted like his normal self. A naive, optimistic, carefree kid who followed his heart however it felt, and didn't really listen to his common sense all that much. Which is exactly how Xehanort caught him off guard(well that, and the over complicated time travel that was involved to make it this far) and managed to capture him. Like i said, Sora was a dumbass in 3D, but if you think about it, it was definitely justified and makes sense. Not saying i like it, but it makes sense. That being said, after the events of 3D, i think he'll definitely go back to taking the situation more seriously and not being a complete idiot 24/7 in III, given that now he knows that Xehanort almost managed to turn him into a darkness, and knows that he is definitely not a threat to be taken lightly. 15 Power Jusho, liamaru, Josuke Higashikata and 12 others reacted to this

Kittenz 4,281 Posted August 20, 2014 That was beautiful *_* You help this fandom come to realise that just because a bad thing happens to a character, or they make a mistake, does not mean that's all there is to them yeah but didn't sora maintain his memories from his adventures Not true, when Sora meets his old friends in disney worlds again it's quite obvious they remember each other from the dialogue 3 Josuke Higashikata, Exiblade7 and Reyn reacted to this

『R』 570 Posted August 20, 2014 I agree with you. But when you said Sora was the strongest keyblade wielder, replace it with Riku, and your theory would right! 1 Reyn reacted to this
Saber Lily 1,543 Posted August 20, 2014 I agree with you. But when you said Sora was the strongest keyblade wielder, replace it with Riku, and your theory would right! Wrong. If Riku was the strongest Kryblade wielder, he would not have lost to Roxas at Memory's skyscraper. Riku had to give into darkness to win - if he was the best, he wouldn't have. Fast forward. Same place. Roxas takes Sora and they duel. Roxas has a greater mastery of light, but ultimately loses. Why? Sora had greater master of the Keyblade. In KH2FM he even steals Roxas' blades. Riku excelled at his test. But Sora beat Riku multiple times. Even when outpowered, he still won. Sorry. Riku is an amazing wielder. But Sora would have been a master, had Xehanort not rigged the test and caught them unaware. 1 Reyn reacted to this

Dio Brando 5,810 Posted August 21, 2014 Do we really need an essay sized theory to justify the traits of a character? In most games they give characters personalities like this to ease giving the player expositions.in FFX Tidus can't stop asking questions for the life of him even for things you know about before him.Sure there will be times when you call him an idiot but it won't be that long before you warm up for the guy So having Sora being a naive optimistic kid actually helps the plot to give expositions with a better world immersion rather than just throw you to the dark with no knowledge about where you are unless you read a datalog entry(F*** you Final Fantasy XIII) And secondly:I'd rather have a naive character over emo brooting ones that bitch about everything or just whine about how dark and mysterious heshe is 1 Reyn reacted to this
GotMilk5101520 573 Posted August 21, 2014 (edited) Good one. But the real reason for Sora being idiot in DDD is because Nomura just wanted a excuse to show flashbacks Edited August 21, 2014 by GotMilk5101520
Movies798 1,358 Posted August 21, 2014 Where does it say that Dream Drop Distance took place a few months after Kingdom Hearts 2 and Recoded? Dream Drop Distance took place shortly after Kingdom Hearts 2 and after Recoded. Also Sora knew that Master Xehanort was returning. Just before Sora and Riku were about to take the exam Yen Sid just told Sora and Riku that Master Xehanort will return and he will trouble them again and they must be ready and Yen Sid give Sora and Riku a mission to save seven worlds from their sleep. Sora and Riku didn't take the exam just re learn how to use the keyblade the proper, they took the exam because they were giving a mission to seven worlds from their endless sleep. Sora should of been more aware because he knew that he was on a mission to save the worlds from their sleep and preparing for Master Xehanort's threat. Sora should of taking his exam more seriously because one the man who cause so much pain and suffering will return more powerful than ever, two, you have to save innocent people's dreams from nightmare dream eaters, and three when an old wise sorcerer said you must be ready, you must ready because Yen Sid can sense the change of wind. Well still, just because Xehanort was on the road to returning, doesn't mean they should think he would directly interfere with them. I mean, Yen Sid and Mickey of all people didn't see this coming until it was too late. If they didn't see it, how could Sora? :

Iscreamer1 100 Posted August 24, 2014 In my upcoming fanfic of Sora Meets Big Hero 6 (which is ten years after KH III so Sora is 26), Sora is more mature because he, the duck and the dog like to explore worlds for exploitation and teaching the citizens of other words the history of the Keyblade and they still help people with their problems the less humorous way.
