dont riot. it's not cool

Recommended Posts

no one... except for an 18 year old boy who was supposed to start college today, but he's instead at his funeral

I meant exclusive to the riot. I saw the report this morning.

It's so hard refraining from saying something 'politically insensitive' for something like this. Reminds me of Los Angeles all over again, where residents find any excuse to riot. The Lakers lost the game? Riot! They won the game? Lets party by rioting! Blowout sales at the electronics store? Sounds good for a riot!

Really, it just sickens me about this. I bet they're playing the racial card too...

yes, they're all about the racial card

People can be a bit ignorant... or completely stupid... *sighs* But you know, I agree with the members in here... Except for the "no one's dead" part... But you know, humans would always find an excuse of what they do, mostly because we tend to do many wrongs things and since humans don't like admitting the truth, humans sugar-cote it and act as if everything is going to be fixed by saying, "I'm sorry."

This is terrible. Trying to do right to the death of a young man by rioting and possibly killing other young men. Why must one man die and triple that because people want to riot? It's sickening.

I come from a long line of struggle. I am Black, Native American, and White. I hear the stories of what my grandmother had to go through. She grew up in the Indian Mounds of Mississippi, so it was a blended community of Black and Natives. They had to fight for their rights and watch people be brutally beaten and lynched hanging from trees.

I have two brothers who are 21 and 14. It would break my heart to see them killed.

I don't think people grasp this. No one is pulling the firetrucking race card. It is the truth. It is not just Black people getting hurt. Everyone is.

White people are to an extent oblivious because they don't understand.

The police is getting out of hand. They should not have shot that young man. He was not a threat. He put his hands up. He was unarmed.

This shit is ludicrous.

Just like that man in the toy aisle and that girl asking for help that got killed.

I have to listen to my parents telling my bothers and me to be careful because people are scared of us because of the color of our skin.

This should not happen.

firetruck ALL YOU  PEOPLE SAYING DON'T PULL THE RACE CARD

Stop pulling the race card.

Im a large african american woman and even i dont do that.

They call me chocolate thunda

EDIT: hehehe

We really have to protect everybody else from those Caucasian kids who  listen to that devil music called Rock and Roll from the rest of society because we heard on TV that their dangerous and violent only because of where there from or how they look. They really need to stop playing the race card too like despite the fact that it has been proven that White people experience longer jail sentences , or more police brutality or more hate crimes directed towards there race. They also have to forget that thing all Black people put them through like Slavery or Segregation, yet we can't forget  those who died in Pearl harbor attacks or the Holocaust or 9/11.

^ if the roles were reversed, for those who don't get it.

looting is bad, they are just hurting themselves. What they need to do is protest peaceful about this instead of robbing stores. I love how nobody brought up how the police was attacking the actually peaceful protesters not to be confused with the looters.

I know what you are saying and when that discrimination happens it sucks and it shouldn't .However that is no justification for committing crimes and rioting . It doesn't further the cause it hinders it bc all it does is help back up the stereotype and Martin Luther King Jr knew this and that's why he was able to help change so much with his PEACEFUL protests .

I am not disagreeing with anything your saying, me and you are the same page. Do people do dumb things when tragic stuff like this happen of course, some people who are in those neighborhoods take advantage of the situation and try to loot or cause trouble, but when things like this mainly happen to racial minorities, they get extremely mad and upset , the system is already working against them then something bad like this happens its like a punch in the face. Is it the right thing to do , no part of me says no since it goes against my own beliefs of non- violent protest and how effective it is in the long run, but then a part of me understands how it feels to be racial profiled because I am black when your not doing anything wrong or to be labeled a thug or a future criminal because the way I dressed or looked , so I see why people lash out like this but at the end of the day its still wrong.

You know what. Forget it. The post is down below if you want to read it.

Some things are better left alone, I guess.

I completely agree with what you wrote before you edited it.

Do you guys not realize that the protest was peaceful before the police intervened? The cops aggravated the situation, yet nobody seems to acknowledge this.

Mike Brown was unarmed and was unlawfully shot and the community is grieving, yet all the media and most of the people commenting on this thread can focus on is the riot. This isn't the first time police have murdered a black person who posed no threat whatsoever. The people have reached a tipping point. Forget about the firetrucking riot and focus on what actually matters.

"The fact our society is more willing to condemn the destruction of property before the death of a black man speaks volumes as to the sort of change we need."

If i wasn't quota I would like this too ! Yes i understand that sometimes people react out of emotion when reaching a breaking point . But I wish they would realize the damage done when this occurs .As for the ones taking advantage of the situation they are making the majority of good law abiding citizens who are black look bad and perpetuating the stereotype . In other words, there is a right and wrong way to handle the cause and yes we are on the same page .

No one here said that . They are saying there is no justification for committing crimes in the name of your cause. There is a right way and a wrong way to do things . Look at Martin Luther King for example .Also no one here said anything condemning protests in  general just the rioting and violence.

Just scroll up.

Speaking of Martin Luther King Jr., he once said "A riot is the language of the unheard." There are better ways to handle it, I agree, but in this case it seems there are no viable alternatives. How else will they be heard? They have every right to be angry, and if a riot is what it takes to get everybody's attention so be it. Nobody pays attention to when they are peaceful, and when things get violent the media shows you only what they want to show you.

I have yet to see anyone disagreeing with protesting injustice just the rioting .

Martin Luther King preached about peaceful protests and that is what he did indeed end up doing . Look at his actions . As we all know he also made a HUGE difference in the cause . He wasn't advocating this he was merely pointing out that when riots happen it is because there is indeed something very wrong going on that needs attention . -Rioting isn't the answer period . It only causes more violence and needless deaths .So if i disagree with a verdict of someone who got away with murder do I have the right to go committing crimes and inciting violence to show this ? Of course not . There is no justification .As for the media they are the bane of society and yes they do indeed twist things .

Obviously, I was just showing you a quote he said as it applies perfectly to this situation. They are rioting for MUCH more than the death of an innocent kid. This is about racial inequality, police brutality and discrimination that has been going on for far too long. After the police instigated the protestors by calling them animals and acting like racist pigs is when the riot broke out. Like I wrote before, how else would they be heard? But whatever, I'm not going to continue discussing this with you as we both have differing opinions and neither is going to change.

You also seemed to try and use that quote to back up rioting when that wasn't what he was advocating / saying . Also like I already mentioned in several posts I understand what is going on I don't need you to tell me this . I'm merely pointing out that rioting , violence and hate doesn't help the cause it hinders it .Were you there or are you yourself believing the media ? Just sayin'. The media contorts on both sides of the issue .How can they be heard ? Peaceful marches/ protests are reasonable . It's when it turns into rioting and violence just to prove a point that it's wrong . Like i said , right way and wrong way to handle things . You can agree to disagree i'm fine with that .

Alright I really did not want to continue this. That actually was what he was saying, I don't understand what you mean by that. A riot is the voice of the unheard, that is literally the point I was trying to make. And see I disagree, I think this riot and all the commotion will help in the long run.

Again I don't get what you mean by that, but maybe you should look away from mainstream media to get information. They aren't even showing the other side of the issue. Peaceful protests are reasonable but aren't working for them.

If you cannot see what I'm saying after several posts explaining exactly what I'm saying and how this HINDERS the cause there is no point to continue .Rioting isn't working for them either and causes MORE damage . He never advocated that - he was just calling attention that there was a real and deep issue going on. Now look at his actions and speeches on how he handled the problem as proof. As for the media I'm sayin' that unless you were there yourself you yourself are using the media as your source and there are biased media on both sides of the issue/propaganda.
