I think that they could have just skipped DDD

Recommended Posts

Most of the plot important stuff in there could have been fit into III.

this was a perfect lead into III, it's kind of disappointing that they didn't just go with this.

The mark of mastery exam could have been a duel for firetrucks sake, and I think the Lea scenes would have fit perfectly into III.

Fool. Or they could have made it a lot better.

True. But a lot of the stuff like maleficents plan,Lea and the rest of the apprentices waking up, and all that other junk would have fit into III nicely. I don't know why they needed to direct so much time and resources into a game so unnecessary as DDD.

I think I'll just pretend DDD never happened. This is the true lead into III.

It was originally Kingdom Hearts III's tutorial, since they gradually get longer with each numbered title

Like how Metal Gear Solid V made it's tutorial Ground Zeroes and the rest Phantom Pain, except Dream Drop Distance wasn't a $30 demo

That would have been soooooooooooooo much better. Nomura can be a real dumbass sometimes.

Well, personally I think what happened in Dream Drop Distance is much better than what ANY KH tutorial could have ever achieved. I mean for one thing: The Mark of Mastery Exam is NOT a test of strength, it is a test of Heart and Control. For example: Terra failed his Exam because he lost control of the Darkness in his Heart. And Sora failed because he gave in to the Darkness because of his weakened Heart and in doing so, was captured by True Org.XIII who had set up the whole thing in the first place.

The reason Riku passed was because he controlled the Darkness in his Heart, he defended Sora the whole way and he even took the risk to enter Sora's then-Darkness-infested-Heart to free him from his sleep.

And all-in-all, the whole experience serves as more of Riku's Character Development, strengthened the bonds between Sora and Riku and had Lea become a good guy and a Keyblade Wielder! There's also the secret ending basically saying: "Okay, you guys want Kairi to fight properly? Well here you go! She's being trained! :D"

(And besides, you can't pretend DDD doesn't exist because now it links DIRECTLY into KH3 so therefore: KH3 will be making reference to DDD a lot! ...*Breathes in and out* ...sorry...I needed to get that out of my system. :) )

Ik, it just would have been more epic if it left off from the secret ending in BbS.

Or at least cut out some of the nonsense.  I love Yen Sid to death, but what was the point of him reverting the boys to younger bodies? Why couldn't they just go to sleep as they were? Heck, why go to sleep at all? Heck, why even have Sleeping Worlds? Why not just have new, normal worlds and have Riku and Sora unlock those? That way you wouldn't have to use a drop system, and could just automatically switch between each character as the game progressed, OR complete it one story at a time, like CoM. And why did they make Xehanort fetch Saix and Xigbar from the past? Why didn't they just put their Somebodies Isa and Braig into the game? Why work so hard to beat into our heads that Nobodies don't have hearts, and then say it was all a big fat lie? Is there a method to the madness??!

Actually, even then, no. It worked more as a set-up for DDD to me. :/

Not for me. The BbS secret ending Kairi even gave him a wayfinder and it sounded like he was going on his next big journey(KHIII).

Only to find out that we would get a dream journey where most of the plot isn't even that relevant until the world that never was.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

this. DDD is full of stupid retcons and plot holes. not to mention it was hella confusing.

The method to this madness is Xehanort. I think in a way, he was trying to fool the players by making them think some of these things...weird... :/

Well, yeah you do spend most of your time saving various worlds from sleep with only some relevance to the main over-arching plot but I'd say all of that stuff in The World that Never Was made it worth it. :)

You do realize that sleeping worlds weren't even a thing until DDD and in KHIII they won't make a difference.

DDD's main focus was to show Riku's redemption and show him come to terms with himself. While it wasn't entirely necessary, I am glad they did it. I had never cared for Riku much as a character before this game; all he would do was whine about the darkness. Seeing him work his way to redeem himself made me care for him. If anything, the game was made to help fans connect with Riku.

I do realize and I acknowledge it's relative pointlessness but in the end it will make a difference as Sora and the other Guardians of Light are going to fight to protect the worlds and this includes the formerly Sleeping Worlds which he has already saved and now he must protect them from Xehanort and his morbid curiosity turned bad.

He comes to terms with himself in the entirety of the story in CoM and in KHII in case you've forgotten.

A whole game doing just that. It wasn't necessary in DDD and didn't make a difference as it already happened.

If you recall, at the end of KH2, he still isn't feeling all that great about himself. And at th beginning of DDD he clearly says that he wonders if he is worthy of the keyblade. Throughout the game he finds things in each world that help bring him to a better understanding of the light within himself.

So? If there wasnt 3D, then we would have had a 6 year gap with no new KH games. Not to mention, why would we fit all of the story of 3D into III? That's too freaking long for a tutorial if you ask me. I think it was better that we had the introduction of the new Org., Riku officially getting over his darkness problems/redeeming himself and proving himself worthy to be a Keyblade wielder, and Lea defecting over to the Keyblade wielder's side was better being in 3D than III.

Not to mention, i don't see you complaining about the games taht REALLY needed to be skipped. *cough*codedand358*cough*. No offense to fans of those, but those are more filler story wise than 3D will ever be.

We could have skipped Coded, 358/2 Days, and Chain of Memory as well. None of those really added anything much to the series.

Chain of Memories didn't add anything? That's rubbish. Yes, let's go from Sora running to sleeping.

Playing as Riku was the only good thing Re:COM did for the series, as his story was interesting and wouldn't have been able to be told in KH2.

Castle Oblivion is fairly important to the story (since that's where Ventus is) but the entire point of the game was to build the story of KH2 (like 3D does for KH3). Other than the Organisation members you fight and Castle Oblivion, everything else is recycled. They could have squeezed most of that into KH2's tutorial.

and you think that Xion would fit to appear suddenly in 3D without any past story whatsoever? I actually agree about Re:Coded.

What importance has Xion had to the story? The series wouldn't be any weaker if she didn't exist, since she hasn't done anything apart from being a pawn for Xemnas.
