***SPOILERS***

Now that we got that out of the way, what did you think about it? I loved how John Hurt was introduced. my guess is that he is the doctor that the doctor hates. maybe he's the one who made the moment (which ended the time war.) he did it, but not in the name of the doctor, aka the good, nonviolent side.

Also on a bonus trivia, maybe John Hurt's Doctor was the one who was in the God Complex.

Do they even say his name?

yeah they do at the very end he turns around and its says

"Introducing John Hurt as the Doctor"

No, John Hurt is just the actor.

No one says the name (except for river but we don't hear it)

Oh i thought it was about Hurt's name.

No, they never say it. It just means that it was in his name, such as "In the name of the KING" or "In the name of GOD" and "In the name of the DOCTOR"

The door opens when the Doctor yells "Please!" Clearly the Doctors name is Please and River was just covering for him.

The Doctor played by John Hurt is the regeneration between the 8th and 9th Doctors. However he can't have the name "The Doctor" because he broke "The Promise" by committing genocide in killing billions to end The Time War.

The Valeyard was, according to the Master, "an amalgamation of the darker side of the Doctor's nature". (TVThe Ultimate Foe) In one account, the Master stated, "The Valeyard, Doctor, is your penultimate reincarnation... Somewhere between your twelfth and thirteenth regeneration," although other accounts varied. (PROSEThe Ultimate Foe) The Great Intelligence also stated the Valeyard to be one of the future names of the Doctor. (TVThe Name of the Doctor)

John Hurt's Doctor is quite similar to The Valeyard, could it be a future Doctor?
Yeah it can be the 8.5th Doctor, but how about being the Valeyard?

There are several reasons I think it could be the Valeyard even though what the master said to six.

One is they can change it. 40 or so years ago during 4's time it was explained that Time Lords only get 12 reincarnations. Now, they've changed it to where the Doctor is immortal. If they can change that then why not change the Valeyard?

Another reason is that the Valeyard is supposed to be as dark as the Doctor gets. If the Doctor tried this hard to not mention it before and doesn't consider it a Doctor that's another reason to be the Valeyard.

And of course "But not in the name of the Doctor" but maybe in the name of the Valeyard

They have officially said the doctor doesn't have a regeneration limit? (Sorry, I'm behind on Doctor Who news.)
