sagman12PC 280 Posted July 16, 2014 Ok so this is an off topic thread. I recently purchased the HD collection because i wanted to play the games i grew up with. I breezed through Precursor Legacy with 91% completion. It aged well. It was really fun and i enjoyed playing it again Now we move on to the disaster known as Jak 2. Where do i get started. The game was innovative at the time with its open world gameplay and driving, but let me begin to talk about the bullshit - The driving is terrible. The amount of traffic is crazy. You literally crash into EVERYTHING when at maximum hover height and when you try to go to low hover height you end up hitting a Krimzon Guard trooper and they start chasing you. And to make it worse you have to drive around to get to everything - The difficulty is insane. Some mission are easy, and some missions are impossible. For example, late into the game you have to destroy 4 blast bots before they reach the hideout. You have to do this on ONE HEALTH BAR. Each hit drains your energy by 2 units, and if you get hit 4 times you are dead. No checkpoints, no HP refills. To make it worse it takes like 30 hits to destroy a blast bot, and thats with the yellow gun - The camera is horrible. This seemed to have carried over from the precursor legacy, although WAY WORSE. Sometimes the camera blocks your view when trying to jump to another platform and you end up falling. Other times, the camera is just there to annoy you. For example, theres a mission with daxter who is running away from a boulder and a spider. The camera is facing BACKWARDS, so each obstacle that approaches you comes from the FRONT which means you have to have perfect reaction time with 0% error or you are dead. - You don't have enough health/HP doesnt replenish often. This carried over from the first game. 4 hits and you are dead depending on what enemy hits you. Crash your zoomer into another zoomer and its 2 HP bars gone. - There aren't enough checkpoints. There are MANY missions in this game that require you to beat them all in 1 try. You die, YOU GO BACK TO THE START. I have spent HOURS trying to beat several missions in this game and i am currently stuck at the blast bots one. Overall, this game is nostalgic but the difficulty and frustration level are off the charts. I CANT WAIT to beat this and start Jak 3. In my opinion Jak 3 corrected MANY if not ALL of the bullshit aspects of Jak 2. If you want a challenge that will kick your ass, i encourage you to pick up the HD collection and play Jak 2. Setrex 1,031 Posted July 16, 2014 Completely agree. Back in the day I really liked Jak & Daxter it was a really fun game, but the then I played Jak 2 and I hated it. To this day it sits on my shelve and I have no desire to go back and finish it. I never played Jak 3 purely based on my impression of the 2nd game but it's nice to see that they fixed some of the issues.
windwalker91 3 Posted July 16, 2014 At first I didn't liked it but as I played the HD Version I was really sucked in. I would give it a new try KHSoraKeyBlade
NO_HEART_XIII 312 Posted July 16, 2014 The only thing I agree with is the checkpoints. I loved Jak II, it's actually probably my favorite.
HumbleGamer 76 Posted July 16, 2014 In my opinion I love Jak 2. I will admit that the camera can be a bit annoying, however it's not as horrible as you say. With the driving, there are many types if cars you can get, so try using each one and see what works for you. The Zoomer for example is quite fast and the turning is OK if you just stop for a split second and turn, however it is very fragile so you have to drive carefully with it. Also I prefer to drive on the lower end and if I want to avoid a Crimson guard, I quickly go up then back down, but to be honest it doesn't really matter if the chase you or not they don't do too much to stop, but it is fun to run from the chase. Also with the missions, there are a very, and I mean, VERY few amount of levels that require you to do it in 1 go. And the Checkpoints aren't as scarce as you claim, they are a bit mean at times, but most of the time they aren't too bad. And if you're having trouble with enemies, a good tip would be either, get full amo and abuse the Peacemaker so crimson guards have no choirs but to drop them, jump in the air with the yellow blaster and fire while using the spin attack it's very handy, or just use the blue gun cause it works very well from a distance and if you know when to stop shooting then you won't use up too much amo. As for the health I admit it is a bit small, they could have made it 10 or 12 or perhaps have done difficulty settings, however it actually works pretty well. Yes you will die a few times, no questioning that, but as you figure out a strategy for what's ahead, you should be able to make it through. Also, don't hesitate to use Dark Jak, it can be really handy at times like at the end of the escort sewer mission for instance. There are a few missions that are very difficult, but that's just the nature if the game, and there's nothing wrong with that. Instead if going in guns blazing all the time, try to think and plan what you're gonna do next and how you're gonna get through the part you died on. I'm not saying the game is perfect, there are flaws, no gane is truly perfect. Hope these tips helped.
143436611Xxcc 1,105 Posted July 16, 2014 Same... Jak 1 was so good... I just wanted a really better version of that, then I play Jak 2 and BAM it`s like a different game series and it feels out of place.
