So what do you guys think about Xehanort

Recommended Posts

I think he came back because Nomora realized that KH could make some money for square so he came back because the plot demands it and lets give a bullshit excuse as to WHY he came back so we can get that out of the way and get back to counting my money

I hate him .He's a master pedobear whose every incarnation fails yet we are suppose to believe he's so great . The only bigger fail villain in KH is Vanitas . I do love Xemnas lots however for many reasons . Dave said it best though.

Referring to Xehanort the Elder, I find him to be incredibly boring and annoying. He has absolutely no emotional investment in what he's doing, and his lack of personality makes his screen presence a drag. He's just generally uninteresting: he only wants to nab the X-blade and open Kingdom Hearts to serve some base curiosity, rather than having an actual deep seeded reason for doing so. If he fails, there's no reason for him to really care, and if he doesn't care, there's certainly no reason for me to do so. Also, for as much as the game wants us to believe that he's a "master strategist," his manipulations are so shoe-horned and driven by the plot railroad that it's almost painful. He doesn't succeed because he's good, he succeeds because bad writing forces the other characters to be unbelievably short sighted and unable to stop and think about things.

Most of all, though, I resent him for ultimately cheapening many of the things that I loved about Ansem and Xemnas. Both of these characters have depth to them, and their stories within KH1-2 are interesting and fund to read. But the big twist of them being just chump pawns of Xehanort really just sucks a ton of life out of the things that I loved in the other games, and it's only done because the writers are desperate to try and convince us that Xehanort is a better villain than he actually is. Not to mention the idea that somehow he's the one who manipulates Maleficent does her character absolutely no favors, and serves to trivialize one of the greatest villains in history. He ultimately just makes the rest of the series worse by virtue of existing.

I honestly would see him as an uncle. Like seriously, he just seems like an uncle that is just under-appreciated by the younglings. And then he is sent to an old-folks home, yelling "DARKNESSSS"And that's the last we hear of Uncle Xehanort. SPOILER: This is the true end of KH3.

Personally, I think the fact that his sole motivation is curiosity makes him an excellent villain because it shows that he's a sociopath with absolutely no empathy or respect for human life. But that's just me.

I also find him to be incredibly interesting (sometimes hilarious) to watch on-screen. He's so enthusiastic when he's revealing his master plans (which are generally the backup-backup-backup-BACKUP master plans) that he twiddles his fingers around and grips his fist like he's on a friggin' stage, I love it.

He's also fascinating to me for another reason. In general, the FF and KH games have done a good job of explaining the Light vs Darkness situation. In FFI, darkness was spreading so the light stopped it. Simple. In FFIII, the same events happen yet we learn that in the past, the exact opposite happened at some point. The Ancients misused the light and it corrupted the world, so the Four Warriors of Darkness had to actually defeat the Light, and that's one of the biggest themes of that game. That neither Light nor Darkness are evil. Equilibrium - balance - is what needs to happen. (Something the Jedi Masters of the Star Wars prequels seem not to understand)

Master Xehanort realizes this. He's explained that that is absolutely the case, that balance should be achieved. Though he uses the powers of Darkness, he understands that neither side is worse than the other. His deal is the fact that he's completely insane and is trying to re-write the universe based on that belief. As has been discussed before, MX's motives may have originally been noble, but somewhere down the line he was corrupted and twisted by his own dream for the World that he's spent decades upon decades trying to achieve.

Honestly, I think his lack of reason is the best thing, it means he has psychosis. It sort of irritates me when people complain about characters not having a deep reason without considering that the character has signs of being clinically insane. He was so uppsessed with this curriosity that he went insane. His lack of emotion seems to back up this hypothesis. If he doesn't get to find out what is inside Kingdom Hearts his mental reality will explode due to his insanity becoming infinitley irritated.

Adleast that's my opinion on it. In the real world not everyone has a deep reason for what they do, and most of the time the reasons we have for behaving the way we do are just fabricated excuses we create after the fact.

But, I do agree with you in how Malifacent was handled. Her and pete are now the team rocket of KH. And no, not the cool team rocket, just the equivelent of Jessie, James, & Meoth :(

You explained his psychosis the best, and even made me appreciate him more than I already do.

Oh please, at least Xehanort had more credibility. Voldemort, to me, was just a weak coward.

I kind of feel like, after Apprentice Xehanort brought Heartless into the RoL, there was a sort of balance. Light is more powerful, but darkness became more common.

Let's not forget it was the hearts of humans that birthed darkness into the world... I maybe just pointed that out because I'm slightly intoxicated, but I'm sure it'll be brought into the subject somehow.

In my opinion, Xehanort is a dastardly genius of a villain, and he's the most formidable opponent Sora and the gang have ever faced, since he's had so many versions of himself fighting against the Keyblade Wielders.  He's a person who's dedicated his life to finding out the mysteries of the Keyblade War, and the way he's gone about doing his plans has resulted in this entire epic saga that has swept over 7 games.  No matter the circumstance, this old coot always has a trick up his sleeve, he always has the last laugh, and that's why I love him so much.  Sure, I hate him to death, but he's the kind of villain you love to hate and hate loving.  Out of all his incarnations, my two favorites are Xemnas and Young Xehanort.  Seriously, their levels of badassness topple over 9000! :D  Haha, but yeah, Xehanort is awesome, and he destroys people's lives like a boss! :D

Hence why if my dream of there ever being a triumvirate of Xehanort, Sidious and Voldemort came to life, he should be the leader. xD
