Why do people want to play as Roxas and Riku so much?

I get that they are your favorite characters, and don't get me wrong, I like Roxas and Riku alot too. Riku is one of my favorite game characters of all time and Roxas used to be my favorite character in KH. But we haven't had any time play as Axel/Lea or Kairi. 

 

And, I mean, think about it:

We had two games where we played as Roxas, the whole of 365/2 days and the tutorial of kh2. 

 

We had three games where we played as Riku. Chain of Memoires, KH2 end, and the whole of dream drop distance.

 

So, Riku and Roxas have gotten an entire game each.

 

KH3 should mostly be just Sora, but if we are going to have someone else for the tutorial, it should be Kairi. Possibly Lea, but it wouldn't make as much sense for him to be level 1.

 

Isn't it time we got to play as someone else? Wouldn't it be fun to play as lea with fire abilities? Or Kairi with light abilities?

 

I won't be miffed if we do play as Roxas or Riku, but since we've played as them before it might be more interesting to play as someone we haven't played as before. This is just my opinion, of course.

As long as the game is long i don't think id care either way however, it would be awesome for them to do what they did with bbs and ddd where you could play each characters story/timeline thing.

So much truth to this, but many people seem to 'conveniently' forget about this. Meanwhile, playing as Kairi, despite the fact it could be the most feasible and justified, is somehow not a good idea... I declare hax0rs this....

I want to play as Xion, but that should be saved until after KH3. Then she could have a full game and Kairi, too, if Square does the whole ''spin off'' thing again. 

 

As for Namine, no-one knows for sure. The theory only holds water because Kairi & Sora both use the keyblade. But that doesn't necessarily mean she can just because she's a part of them. It would be cool, but everyone thinks we have enough wielders as is. Myself included. Nomura might not want to make her a weilder. Her own heart might not be strong enough. It's hard to say because it's just a theory.

Agreed, we've played as them enough, why not try Kairi, or Namine, or Mickey... like seriously.... a wide variety to choose from, why choose people who we already played as for whole games...

Some people think Roxas was a badass because of the way he sort of grew up in the games, from frieeends to "Woosh Imma take out Riku AND Xemnas".

Unlike Xion, I think Kairi just kind of sat idle and waited, and when she does take action (BBS, KH2) Nomura-san always makes her look like a damsel in distress

I know she and axel was playable there but I don't think it counts tbh. 

 

There are lost of ways Kairi does take action. In real life we take action all time without fighting now don't we? The only reason she stayed on the islands is because of what Sora told her. For example, If your friend said he would be back with icecream, you would wait for him too,  but seriously, Sora said he'd be back, with Riku, and then Namine made her forget so she had no real reason to leave until she remembered and axel came and she was like ''firetruck it i'm leaving''.

Its because Riku wields Darkness in addition to light in battle which gives him movesets that Sora does not have since he mainly uses light in battle. Example: Dark Aura, Dark Break

How much you love their attacks isn't a valid argument. State a sensible reason that makes sense, especially one that would make sense for the plot. Because switching to Roxas/Riku in a game that appears to mostly be about Sora, finding aqua/ven/terra, training kairi, finding the key to return hearts, going on another goofy and donald adventure and defeating xehanort doesn't make all that much sense unless you switch between all the guardians of light at the end. But that would be confusing and Roxas probably won't be one...

I'm not being a dick. I'm being perfectly reasonable, i'm saying state a reason besides just how much you like them.

 

A reason that would make sense for us to switch to them in a section of the plot of KH3. Something the creators themselves would have to think about. That shouldn't be hard. Unless there really is no legitimate story/gameplay reason for us to play as them besides fanservice.

I honestly don't want to play as anyone else other than Sora.

I don't care about playing Kairi or Lea just because they are wielders now. Roxas has his own game and KH2 opening.

TVA has their own game as well as separate story lines.

 

Riku sometimes gets a pass because he has a major role in all the Games.

But that is just my opinion.

A plot reason for Riku to be playable is that he is likely one of the seven lights (Nomura said none are confirmed so there is that slight chance that he may not be), and he is looking for a way to release those trapped.

 

For Kairi we have the fact that she is training, also like Riku she is likely one of the seven lights. Plus she's the only one of the DI trio we have yet to play as.

We've only been able to play as Riku through a card style and Roxas through Days... playstyle. That's barely anything in terms of originality. 

 

Imagine if we got a step up and were able to play as them with their original abilites, like Riku's control of darkness or Roxas's control of light. Remember that these two have some kickass abilities but we've never really got to see them other than in boss fights. Its just something to think about it.

Do people really need reasoning other than "I like this" to want to be able to do something? Look, I'm all for a little bit of Kairi or Lea gameplay in KHIII. That doesn't mean that Riku and Roxas should be thrown under the bus for two other characters who, honestly, probably won't have as much importance in the Keyblade War as a Keyblade Master, and the main character's Nobody. There's nothing saying that we CAN'T have all four playable. I don't quite see why you're using Roxas and Riku as examples, aside from argument bait and trying to piss people off.

 

Now, I DO think that playing as Kairi and Lea could be fun. They could have their own gameplay styles, which would be cool. I'd like to see how Kairi would play, and I'd love to use my favorite character in the series (Lea/Axel). However, I'd also like to play as Riku and Roxas, since I had a lot of fun playing as them when we were allowed to. There's no reason to say that Riku and Roxas have no reason to be playable. In fact, we all know for a fact Riku will be incredibly important story-wise, considering he's a Master, which could lead to quite a few story instances where we CAN play as him.

 

Of course, the most important thing is that we get Sora playable, as usual. This is a numbered title, so the focus should be devoted mostly to him.

Actually, to be fair, Riku was also playable in DDD. Not counting Days, because... Well... Yeah...
