Firaga 5,947 Posted July 3, 2014 (edited) So, Tokyo Ghoul... its a show alright. I'm not really one to get into horror series. The closest I've gotten is watching or reading series that have elements of horror in them, like Soul Eater, Attack On Titan, and even JoJo's Bizarre Adventure. However, Tokyo Ghoul is a full fledged horror series, and from what I've seen, a really good one at that. Tokyo Ghoul literally premiered today; it's animated by Studio Pierrot and licensed by Funimation for streaming in NA. The show's premise can literally be summed up in the title: Its in Tokyo and its about Ghouls... the end. lol No not really. The real premise is that its set in Tokyo and there's these freaks running around called Ghouls, red and black eyed creatures (for the Naruto fans, you might notice it kinda looks like a mix between Sharingan and Byakugan) which are basically zombies on steroids that look like humans and love eating people. And I do mean love. Its also implied that they have some other powers, but its still unclear at the moment. Anyways, the star of this show is a college student named Kaneki. We first see him with his pal Hide at a cafe, where we see them going on about dates while a reporting of a Ghoul event goes on and they don't even care... okay then. After Kaneki gets to go on a date with a hot chick who came into the cafe and loves reading as much as he does, Rize, he ends up getting hospitalized after Rize tries to eat him, because yes, she's a Ghoul. And in what I can describe as one of the biggest "f**k you" to any main protagonist I've ever seen: one of Rize's eyes and some of her organs are transplanted into Kaneki so he can live, and because of that, he himself becomes a Ghoul-Human hybrid. We then seeing the "change" of sorts start to develop in Kaneki: he craves human flesh, regular food tastes bad, and he can't be hurt by knives. Eventually, he has a mental breakdown, and ends up in a "feeding" area where he's intercepted by another Ghoul (Hide's creepy roommate Nishiki actually. Yeah, that's fitting) and then saved by yet another Ghoul named Toka, a girl who came up earlier in the episode (she was a waitress at the cafe who Kaneki had a thing for until Rize showed up), who forces him to eat a human hand and come to terms with him now being part Ghoul. The episode ends there, and boy is there a lot to take in from this. There are a lot of good things I can say about his show: great animation, really tense atmosphere, blood and gore and more blood all over, its pure horror at its best. And right now, all I can hope for is that the lore and mechanics of the universe can be revealed a bit more in the next installment, like how Toka and Nishiki's dialouge implied that there's like this whole Ghoul "underworld" where they assign districts for the Ghouls to eat. So yeah, a lot more info. on that would be appreciated. And maybe I'll keep an eye out for the manga too (which started in 2011 if you didn't know). Junko 2,815 Posted July 4, 2014 Tsukiyama is still a piece of shit but i love him js Bash on Kaneki and I will hurt you Tokyo Ghoul is seriously great and I'm happy that the anime is keeping with the manga so far. BUT OF COURSE, if you're not the type of person up for horror related stuff, dun watch it. Also, along the way, you might end up sympathizing for some of the ghouls. Just gonna keep it at that since Junko don't spoil Prepare yourself young ones, it's only the beginning 2 Weedanort and Firaga reacted to this
Firaga 5,947 Posted July 27, 2014 I've been hearing a lot of talk lately about the show... People have been saying that content from the original manga of Tokyo Ghoul is being cut; chapters and entire story arcs are missing from the anime. Now I have only just recently discovered TG in the form of the anime series, so this ordeal doesn't really apply to my enjoyment of the product nor do I really care. I've more or less content if this show is being presented in such a way because the format it has now is still enjoyable either way. Then again, once I get into the manga, I'm sure I'll be wishing for some of the skipped parts to be animated or the usual hoping for a Tokyo Ghoul: Brotherhood, like with other anime/manga that have followed this process. But oh well. I'm enjoying the ride so far. And as long as it gets me invested into TG as a whole, I'd say the anime is doing its job right.
Kaneki Ken 1,516 Posted September 2, 2014 sooo yeaaah. I'm normally not the type of person who likes horror anime. Sure I've seen Attack on Titan and Soul Eater (well It's somewhat horror. I don't know ._. ), I watched a few episodes just to give it a shot, and then decided to watch the whole season. I did not want to get addicted to this show like how I got addicted to other shows, but after last week's episode, I decided to read the manga. And well. . . I got addicted. I don't know why, but it continues to wheel me in. Chapter after chapter I read, learning about the conflicts of Human vs. Ghoul, following Kaneki, hoping that he would somehow bring balance to the world. However, by the time I reached to the current chapter which is 140 (with 141 spoilers up which I can't understand), I'm reminded of something I forgotten about. (manga readers can only touch the spoiler. Please refrain from touching the spoiler if you are not past the 80 chapter mark) I'm reminded that from the beginning of the story, that if I was to read from Kaneki's view, it will end in Tragedy. He is basically a tragic character, the main hero with the tragic flaw. I know that probably close to the end of the manga. He will die or something will happen to him that will tearjerk me. After the 60s, he forgets his human side and transforms into something else that accepts his ghoulish self. He basically lost sight of himself, the person that he wanted to be. (Relates to current chapter spoiler. Don't click here until you fully caught up) I think Kaneki truly realized what he has become. And we found out the real catalyst to the entire nightmare Kaneki is living in. I don't even understand why Rize is still alive, or what she is needed for. Unfortunately for Kaneki, as far as we know, He could be dead thanks to the unbeatable Ghoul Investigator. We don't know if Hide is still even alive after the encounter, or if it's all a hallucination. The only hope that I can think that shows that Kaneki is still alive is if he gets another powerup like back in the mansion where he becomes half Kajune (forgive my spelling), hopefully he will gain Full Kajune powers and defeat the Ghoul Investigator, and somehow retain his human self like he was before he lost his innocence. But until that happens, I'm gonna have to say he's dead for now ;_; Also, I knew from the very beginning of episode one when I saw the opener, the white haired boy is Kaneki. It's not that hard to notice -_- In terms of the anime and manga relation. Some new things were added to the anime, and a few things were omitted (such as Kaneki's training) and 2 arcs for some weird reason got switched around, but we are begninng of the arc that changes EVERYTHING. By episode 12, it will go down. I can guarantee that. In terms of anime, people are complaining about the censorship. I will put the end to this and explain the situation. In Japan, there are laws that if anything that has gore (limbs ripped, gore related situations and crap like that) or has full blown nudity or tits, by law, it will be censored on TELEVISION. Those weird ass censorships we see throughout the anime are the TV versions that Funimation picked up. When Blurays and Dvds for Tokyo Ghoul comes out, we will get UNCUT versions of the episodes in it's excellent gory (pun intended). (For those wondering why Akame Ga Kill doesn't follow this rule, it's because the anime we watch comes from Nico Nico streams, which they picked up Uncut versions. Seriously, if you watch the TV versions, you will end up avoid the series completely!) In the end, Tokyo Ghoul is one of the bizarre animes and manga I have gotten into. It pulls me apart, I can't tell who's wrong or right. All I want to do is see Kaneki change the world, because he lives in two worlds, and understands both worlds. But I hope this ends in the two hundred chapter section, because I can't take this anymore. ;_; 9/10 will recommend. So I'm just gonna drop this remix of Unravel, Tokyo Ghoul's opener. 2 Firaga and Weedanort reacted to this
Kaneki Ken 1,516 Posted September 13, 2014 Welp. It's official gais. Once chapter 143 is scanned and translated, Tokyo Ghoul's manga will be concluded. The cover of the Young Jump magazine in Japan stated that Tokyo Ghoul has reached it's conclusion and the ending of the chapter stated the final volume, the 14th volume will be released in Japan on 10/17/2014. Spoilers of the last chapter are floating around the internet as of now, but tomorrow or the day after that, the final chapter will be uploaded. When I read the news, this was my reaction: Seriously. There are waaay too many plot holes esp. with the plot twisters that have occured in the past few chapters. If the last chapter does not bring the closer I'm expecting, then I will have to conclude that this has been a mindfactoring series I have ever participated in. I would like to talk about the past chapters that have been released, but I wait until the last chapter gets scanned and translated. As of now, I'm getting my tissue boxes ready, for I can confirm this. (spoilers for anyone who has not caught up to the current chapters) Ishida kept his promise. By following Kaneki and Amon's stories, it will certainly end as a tragedy. ;_;

I don't watch horror shows, but something about it kept me reeling back in, and at episode 8, I couldn't contain myself and read the manga; all the way to the current chapter. The manga is better, obviously. Nothing is censored, and the series get's numerous plot twists, esp. the recent chapters. But it's leaving plot holes though. I hope some of the plot holes gets filled when the final chapter comes out, but it's most likely gonna have to get a part 2 series, which could be likely, but I don't wanna get my hopes up. Also, this week's episode skipped 7 chapters of the Aogiri arc. The manga showed how it lead up to the situation Kaneki's in right now.

Kaneki Ken 1,516 Posted September 13, 2014 Then I guess I really should read the manga. Definitely, Start from the beginning though. While there is uncensored scenes in the manga, there are some manga exclusives. For example, some of Kaneki's training, and two arcs before Aogiri arc got flipped. Also, Kaneki gives readers a message in the first chapter. Take it to heart, and remember those words while you read to the end of the manga. By the time you catch up, the last chapter should be out hopefully.

Kaneki Ken 1,516 Posted September 13, 2014 (edited) so the final chapter got scanned and translated. Now to state my opinion over the past few chapters. This manga. . . DAMN IT! The twists and turns that I went throughout the manga, and during the past 7 or 10 chapters, it kept me on the edge of the set, but leaving me madder and sadder and more in shock than before. chapter 142, One Eyed Owl, who is Yoshimaru's child, turned out to be Eto, who in turn was Takatsuki Sen, the author of the stories that Kaneki reads! Freaked me out! And she takes her dad and is now working with Aogiri Tree to produce even more half ghouls. Chapter 141, Seido freaking dies, and Amon is never shown after this chapter. And we don't even know if he's still alive or not, and CCG confirms him dead. Chapter 140 was the hardest punch I had to endure. It felt like Kaneki was rediscovering himself, and he finds out who Rize's killer and the person who is behind everything, which is a clown. Yet, the last page, he has 2 holes through his head, and right there I keep thinking "don't worry, he went through this before, he should get a powerup soon." NOPE The last chapter stated otherwise. Tsukiyama is in a depressed state that he lost Kaneki (either as a meal or as a friend), Special investigator Shinohara is placed in vegetative state, meaning: He will never regain consciousness and is basically a dead man. Juuzou matures at last, which is the only good thing that happened in this chapter. Meanwhile, a shot of Banjou and Hinami is shown, but it is unknown of what they are up too. Meanwhile Arima will continue the investigation involving One Eyed Owl. And the granddaddy of all F*CK YOU's that I should've seen coming. Ken Kaneki is officially dead. He is now Arima's quinque. I should've took note of Kaneki's narration during the first chapter. By following him as a Protagonist, it would lead to a certain Tragedy, and he was right. I read through the series, with hopes that Kaneki would do something to bring harmony. He is the hybrid theory. I thought he could be bring balance, but he couldn't. He was still struggling internally with the monster inside him. He fully submits after Aogiri arc, then after the Raid, tries to find his human self, and when he did, it was too late. He became a dead with 2 holes through his head. What a sad ending for the main character. To make matters worse, Uta, itori, Nico, and couple others were the Clown Ghouls! And one of the clowns that started all of this is still alive! I think Uta set this all up. This guy doesn't give us any clue about his purpose until now. This is just. . . UGH!!!! In addition, every since Chapter 137 or some sort, Hide disappeared after showing himself to Kaneki while Kaneki lost his sanity. We don't know what happened to him, but a hint was "A fresh taste of blood in Kaneki's tongue." I'm scared to think that Kaneki ate his best friend. The last scenes nearly drove me to tears. Touka will never know what happened to Kaneki. The last time they talked, she argued with him, and now she wants him back at Anteiku. also, the very last page shows Arima and the suitcase. Does this mean Kaneki will return? IDK, I'm still hanging onto the hope that during the sequel series if there will be one, he will come back to life, but it will not happen. There better be a sequel series to this, because if this is how Ishida is gonna end Tokyo Ghoul, then that was clearly the worst idea ever, for there are still plot holes to be filled, and the ending is saddening and very unsatisfying. excuse me while I go shed more tears at this final page. EDIT: In addition, (spoilers of last chapter) Congrats Tsukiyama! You are no longer the King of trashiest characters of Tokyo Ghoul. Uta is now the most trashiest character in Tokyo Ghoul. Firaga 5,947 Posted September 18, 2014 (edited) Well... it's over... damn it. For those of you who can't tell from my tone... I'm a little upset. Here's why: The last episode of TG ends with Kaneki entering his white haired mode and beating Jason's ass... and that's it. We spend the entire episode seeing him getting tortured by Jason and debating his life choices with Rize inside his head... then he breaks out and has a fight scene (a very good one, I admit) with Jason, he goes to eat him... and there. Done. Finito.... WHAT?! Look, I've been paying attention to what's been going on: the anime is heavily censored because of the network its on, and it also leaves out a looot of content from the manga, so I've heard. In fact, the last episode, from my knowledge, only covers the manga (with the left out/changed parts of course) up to 66. And the manga just finished at 143. Also, from what I've heard, not the even the manga's ending was that good... *sigh* what I'm trying to say is that while I am able to enjoy this series despite all that... that ending... UGH. It felt like the end of Deadman Wonderland where it basically tells you "Thanks for watching, now go read the manga." -_- But again, the way that the series was handled, it was good. Not great, but good. Plus I think it would be a LOT more enjoyable if watched uncut. I guess our only resolve this far is to either a) wait for an uncut version (possibly when we get a dub as well) or b) read the manga. I haven't gotten started with the manga, and despite people already throwing shit at the ending at 143 chapters, I'm just gonna enjoy the ride until then starting from chapter 1. Eventually. I mean, who knows, the ending might not be that bad. Edited September 18, 2014 by Firaga Sensei
Kaneki Ken 1,516 Posted September 19, 2014 The author expressed interest in doing more TG, but he didn't say it directly. Just keep an eye out on the announcements on TG's website and YJ's website is all he said. Also, there is a TG-related event that will occur on Oct. 11. Hopefully, he answers questions we have been answering. He did state that he can't disclose any information for a while. This means he's got some tricks in his sleeve. I will talk about the anime later on. I saw the episode, but I was at someone's place, therefore, I watched half on a crappy computer, and the other half on my somewhat crappy phone with smoother animation, but wore earbuds. I fangasmed when he went White-Hair, no. . . GHOUL MODE as soon as he broke out. It got crazier when Unravel started playing IN FULL. I was gonna mention that during class when I found out, but crappy phone hates KH13 for some reason Also, I rewatched the fight scene again (mostly to confirm the tuning and musical scale of Unravel, and at the last part before Kaneki goes in to eat Yamori, I saw Kaneki hitting his head, and he took his hand out near his ear and FREAKING PULLED OUT THE CENTIPEDE. Of course, the pulling part was not shown, but I can tell by hearing the same sound of the Centipede that went into Kaneki's ear. That's why eyes widen like he was gonna rape someone (well, he was hungry for Ghoul), he felt the sensation of the Centipede crawling out. Kaneki Ken 1,516 Posted October 2, 2014 (edited) So I was browsing the subreddit of Tokyo Ghoul looking for news about Tokyo Ghoul (None really, just keep an eye out for a convention on Oct. 11), and I came across an interesting theory. I don't own this theory, someone else came up with it. It is obvious that there are spoilers. DO NOT READ THE SPOILER UNLESS YOU READ UP TO CHAPTER 140. In ch.139, as Kaneki was in deep brain trauma, he seemed to described some sort of story as he was struggling, something about "ainu mosir" which is some sort of literature/epic. After seeing Arima speechless after what Kaneki had described, and him saying "...oh i see..., you're", and him knowing Kaneki's name after he stated it (when he took on Kaneki's last attack), could lead me to believe that he could be Kaneki's father. Kaneki had stated subconsciously when he was tortured by Yamori, that his father was into books, and Kaneki took a particular interest with the books his father had left in his study, which could relate to why he was rendered speechless from what he was trying to say. Kaneki had also mentioned something about something from his childhood, on ch.139 on pg.5. He mentioned being alone, and wanting to play on the swing. This here can ensure that Kaneki is recalling his past along with the story he must have read about "ainu mosir" as a youth. Not to mention that his father died early when he was 4 and can't remember his father's face clearly. I could only assume that Arima had to fake his death and changed his surname in order to protect his family, since he's known as the infamous CCG Reaper towards the ghouls, and would not want his family to be hunted down. Then on the final chapter, where he is supposedly given new ownership rights to a quinque, with Kaneki's status shown "erased", Arima was given the option to choose the name which could be that he's Kaneki's father since he's given such a choice, and responded with a full page "Leave it to me", with sorrow, alongside with the black suitcase in the background. It's a certain possibility that either Kaneki is kept top secret under CGG since Arima wanted it or it would be to farm kagunes out of him like Touka's father for quinques. But it would be reasonable to let Arima to have Kaneki's entire kagune as a quinque (since he is in the special class and would need a durable quinque, such as Ixa), which could explain the "erased", and ownership rights. So what do you guys think about the theory? Also want to point out: If you are finished reading Tokyo Ghoul. I recommend checking out a side-story called Tokyo Ghoul: JACK. The artstyle is odd, but it tells the story of a certain man mentioned in the theory and his teenage years. The manga is already finished at 7 chapters, but only 5 are scanned and translated so far. Give it a read when you are finished with Tokyo Ghoul Manga. Edited October 2, 2014 by Xamtweth-ReMIXed
Kaneki Ken 1,516 Posted October 6, 2014 I have good news and some neutral news. Good news is, I saw a screenshot of a BD/DVD clip of Tokyo Ghoul anime, and a shot that was heavily censored (well whited out), was shown to be UNCENSORED. So let us rejoice that we can see uncensored goodies when we purchase the discs (Or find them online). Funimation stated that if you are a subscriber, you are likely to be able to stream the uncut content, but we may have to wait a month or two. Think about it. Everything UNCUT. Lots of stuff will make sense. The neutral news. There is a reason I said that. Young Jump announced that Sui Ishida, author of Tokyo Ghoul, will publish a new series with this tease in mind: "The legend has a beginning. If you bear witness to this beginning, it will be a moment you will never forget as long as you live!!" Here's a picture to back it up The silhouette in the picture looks like Kaneki, so it could be relating to Tokyo Ghoul Part 2 or prequel, although I kinda doubt prequel due to Tokyo Ghoul JACK.
