KH2 A question about KHII...

Recommended Posts

I've noticed that a lot of people consider II to be their personal favorite in the series. I'm personally curious why it tends to beat out the others by a landslide. Now, before anyone assumes otherwise, I'm not trying to say that II is a bad game. It's not at all; it's one of my favorite games ever. I'm just curious as to why it seems to beat out the others by such a large margin. I've seen a lot of people (Especially after that recent poll) saying that II is easily the best, and that the others don't even compare. I've personally considered I to be better than II. I'm not trying to insult others, or start any fights. I'm just honestly curious why II seems to be the most popular of the bunch. Sorry if I came off as offensive, that was not my intention at all. I'm not trying to belittle the game at all, just looking to learn more.

First KH game I've ever played, and with the extra content from FM... surely wins for me :)

besides that, the gameplay was better and the guimi ship was less boring [personal opinion, of course]

I'm not going off of sales. I'm asking why it seems more popular. I rarely see people say that I is their favorite anymore.

I think this is the case with most video games. People will usually prefer sequels for reasons like bigger budgets, better graphics, game running better and probably the biggest thing: developers have more experience. Usually developers would intend to make a better game than their last one.

for me it is because of the new worlds, you have space paranoids, you can discover new places in halloween town, disney castle, olympus...places you can only play on kh2, besides the story is more touching and most of the secrets are revealed on kh2 (before bbs and 3d)... mature characters..for me it is because of the ending.

I believe kh2 is one of the favorite among kh fans, because a lot of kh fans play kh and kh2, compare to days, com, bbs and 3d (you know..handheld)..thanks to hd remixes, finally fans can play all of them ^^

*well according to the trend (kh2, bbs and 3d being a fav among kh fans) I can conclude that kh fans love plot twists... hehe

I've met people who prefer earlier games in a series, too. I personally prefer KHI over II, as I said earlier. Usually, these situations seem more balanced. However, II clearly wins by a landslide here.

I literally prefer everything about 1 more. The gameplay (controls, magic system, mechanics), the story, the atmosphere, etc. Just God...

KH2 being my least favorite in the series is my HIGHLY unpopular opinion.

I agree with you. KHII isn't my least favorite (It's probably my second favorite), but I personally find I to be superior. II felt like its gameplay was just mashing buttons, and I rarely used spells aside from Cure and its upgrades. Also, while I prefer II's villains, I's story felt a lot better than II's to me.

I found overall enjoyment in the characters, story, gameplay, worlds, and more in KH2. One, the characters had a much better development in this title. They matured in combat and learned more about who they are than the first. Gameplay was faster, and superior in terms of it not being clunky. Hell even though Right analog camera controls came back in KHFM HD, they were still clunky as hell. Target lock-on...do I even need to say more there? There are multiple targets, but in KH, Sora targets a single one and barely touches the others while he's stuck focused on the one. Not to mention he sometimes targets things like paintings if they're close by during combat. KH2 fixed that, improved it. It made basic targeting easier to handle groups while lock-on only happened when you actually chose to lock onto the enemies and certain things can't be targeted by battle. Another thing to note is that the basic lock on doesn't apply to the single target it highlights anymore. You could actually swing in any direction you turned to instead of turning to only turn around when you swing because the highlighted target is behind you. It may have seemed like button mashing, but there was a lot more strategy required than you may think. The reaction commands were awesome by the way. Not only were they cool to see, but they did their job in showing Sora's grown combat. The improved battle system and camera controls are what really pushed it for me, as you can see above. xD

Fool. Kingdom Hearts had the best experience. With the heroes established and much cooler enemies, the story really shined. It was fun to play and you just felt cool playing it. Kingdom Hearts 1 was really good, but 2 was better. The stories for the rest of the games weren't nearly as good. Chain's was alright, and so was 358 days. But everything else wasn't that good.

Not that it is my favorite, but II is where the plot really thickened. It also got rid of a lot of clumsiness that plagued the first game. Plus II has served as a center point for most of the games that came out after it.

KHII is my favorite because I love the story, characters, and worlds. I also really love the new villains that was introduce in KHII. The nobodies were badass, Organization 13 was badass and they had an awesome goal in KHII. Many new characters were introduce in a cool way especially Roxas and Axel. The battles were fast pace and game play was awesome, I love the triangle reaction, and gumi ships were a lot better. And I love that Sora was finally reunited with his best friend Riku and special friend Kairi, his final battle with Xemnas was badass especially with Riku's help, Riku sacrifice himself to protect Sora from Xemnas blade, and Sora's Final Form was definitely the best part in the game. I love his Drive Forms and I actually play KHII a lot more than any other Kingdom Hearts games. That's why KHII was and still my number 1 favorite game in the Kingdom Hearts series.

I believe that 2 seems to be the most popular is because that it takes the gameplay from the first game and fixes many problems that it had (example: the camera). Also, the gameplay is much better with the drive forms, limits and especially the reaction commands. It had more variation into the gameplay and things were more serious with the characters, like when Roxas denies the fact that he was not his own person and that he was just someone else's nobody when he was talking to DiZ. Also, because there many Kingdom Hearts original characters, way more than the first game which only had Sora, Riku, Kairi and Ansem SOD.

Another thing that I like to point out is that many people prefer Kingdom Hearts 2 than Birth By Sleep or Dream Drop Distance is because of the gameplay. Kingdom Hearts 2 was the only other game which had gameplay very similar to the first one, making many people have that gameplay as their favorite of the series and never wanting to change it. I'm not saying that the other games' gameplay were bad, in fact I enjoy them very much as each game is unique in their gameplay that it is sometimes hard to say which is best, it's just that like I said, the gameplay from 2 was an improvement but almost exact to the first game, making people remember how much they liked the first game and not wanting the gameplay to change.

I like KH1 for its overall tone and I like that some strategy can go in to the boss fights but it does show its age with the camera being bad at times. KH2 improved on the gameplay making it more accessible and such and introducing drive forms was cool. Only complaint with KH2 was that it was way too easy so it did seem really button mashy at times (that's more the fault of the balancing than the actual combat system though) but I hear Final Mix improves the balancing so that's why I'm looking forward to playing it.

Personally I prefer KH2 over KH1 because of a few reasons.

The gameplay is far more fluid than the first game, sure you can say it might be easier because of drive forms or the over-use of reaction commands but I still preferred it over the clunky gameplay that KH1 is plagued with. I even prefer how the gummi ship parts were handled in the sequel.

The story is also pretty good (though I'm not hating on KH1's story in any way). I won't give it bonus points for having a larger story but that's because you expect it to have a bigger story than its predecessor.

The biggest thumbs up I can give KH2 over KH1 is that I find the Disney worlds to be far more appealing to me. I hated Deep Jungle and Wonderland in KH1 and overall I preferred more Disney worlds in KH2 than KH1. Again though, it's subjective as it does have more worlds to choose from so it has a higher chance of appeal. Another good point is that while certain worlds feel familiar because they were in KH1 they still stand out as far better worlds than they were in the first game. Halloween Town, Olympus and even to a certain extent Agrabah all feel like far better experiences the second time around.

Kingdom Hearts II was a far more enjoyable experience for me than the first game was and I can see why it is more popular, sure you still get fans who say the original is the best and that's cool too. Personally though, Kingdom Hearts doesn't stand up as my favourite game in the series because it never aged that well. It's a good game don't get me wrong but I just have more fun and less frustrating times with Kingdom Hearts II.

KH2 pretty much is a massive upgrade from KH1, the controls are better, reaction commands, forms and such it just seems like a big improvement to a lot of people, the worlds are interesting and you visit them twice, there's the organization which a load of people's favourites reside, overall it's a great game so it's pretty normal that a lot of the audience likes it.  I remember reading in some interview how Nomura found it funny when ranked, KH2FM was first, followed by KH2.  Like going from KH2, to KH1 it feels like a massive step backwards in terms of gameplay and ease of use.  I personally favor BBS though
