Aang 649 Posted June 13, 2014 Hello guys, I am Aang, ( obviously ) and I come here to ask something I've always thought to myself: How long will Kingdom Hearts live past the Xehanort saga? We're all too familiar with Sora, Donald, and Goofy being that these are our main protagonists in every game. We've been with them through thick and thin, and have come to love the three. You may, or may not have heard that game director Tetsuya Nomura has confirmed that Sora will remain the main protagonist after Kingdom Hearts III. Now, with all do respect, I love Sora, Donald, and Goofy. And I love going on these adventures with them, but after seven games I don't know how long they could keep this up. Through all of the magnificent games, we've always seen something new, but have had many similar scenarios in every game. I personally think that we've seen it all, and that it's time for a new era, with a new protagonist after Kingdom Hearts III. And being that we're having the same protagonist, in a new saga, what is left to tell? To experience? NOTHING. I kind of view the next saga as being one of those Disney sequels to a classic, timeless movie. You know, those classic movies that we all know and love only to make an unnecessary sequels? That's how I am currently viewing another saga with Sora. There's a time when you have used all of your source material, and have gotten it just right. What do you do? You leave it alone. We've experienced nearly everything with Sora, and I feel that there just isn't much to do after. Sora has pretty much mastered the arts of the keyblade, got the girl of his dreams, world piece, and happiness. END HIS STORY THERE. What I would do, is make Kingdom Hearts III a powerful, and meaningful game that not only concludes the Xehanort saga, but ends that of Sora's happily. I then would make a Dissidia game or something, covering that Saga. I then would create a new saga, with new villians, new era's and a new, fresh main protagonist. Take Cloud from Final Fantasy VII for example, we all love him. He's great, and his story was a long and touching one, and the ending was a satisfying conclusion, and they moved on to a different set of characters, same goes for Lightening on FFXIII. I love Sora, and I love all of the Kingdom Hearts games. I only wish the best for the series, and do not want to see it become boring, and repetitive. After the saga we need to see NEW worlds, characters, and plots. As they say, out with the old and on with the new. Agree with my opinion? Disagree? Off topic of what your discussing I'll admit, but I felt like saying that some people will disagree with you there. For the rest of what you said, well: "decades" if Nomura has his way. Is about right.
WhiteCrow 55 Posted June 13, 2014 If Nomura manages to pull off a well planned totality and the fanbase stays loyal; the franchise will do just fine.

That isn't off topic. It's a reference to support my statement that they had there stories, and they are done. That there was no need for there's to continue, and I applied that to Sora's. Elijah Gravenhorst 480 Posted June 13, 2014 The Kingdom Hearts series is eternal. Or as old as it can be whilst continuing to spit out munny.
Skhyatze 165 Posted June 13, 2014 I think until Nomura dies. If Square tries to make a KH game after that it won't be good. If not he will try to pull a Kojima and separate himself from the series and make a the last game with a story that cannot be continued.
Taeyeon 1,137 Posted June 13, 2014 It'll keep on living as long as the fans are still here.
JTD95 1,107 Posted June 13, 2014 I'm kind of curious on how long the next sagas will be and how many there will be. Will next ones be just as long as the Xehanort Saga? If not then in my personal opinion that will feel unbalanced if the new sagas are significantly shorter, but if they are just as long then the series will be dragging on for quite some time. As much as I love the series, and it will be hard to let it go, I want it to end with the third one. New protagonist could be refreshing but, I think the best thing is to just end it with the next game. As they say, out with the old and on with the new. "Out with the old and brittle vessel, and in with a younger, stronger new one!" - Master Xehanort
Cricket 1,180 Posted June 13, 2014 It will last for a loooooong time, probably decades; the fan base is one of the largest for a video game series...and Sora is the poster child for KH; I think he will be around for a long while... I think they will keep coming up with new ideas and story lines to support KH in the future AND they have enough characters to make side games out of: Lea, Riku, Kairi, TAV, and possibly MX and Erauqs if they wanted to.
