PikaLink91 58 Posted May 30, 2014 As I'm sure everyone knows, Square, prior to 1.5's release, stated in an interview that the original programming for Kingdom Hearts 1 had been lost, and that 1.5 therefore had to be re-build from scratch. My question though, if this is the case, then how come KHFMHD looks exactly identcal to the original game? Will you tell me that the team photographically remembered exactly how every cutscene played out down to smallest detail, and how everything in the game looked and functioned? Or am I misunderstanding the term "build from scratch"? 1 kevinwp2010m reacted to this
Sorarocks93 678 Posted May 30, 2014 I believe they ripped it from a CD and worked from there. 1 kevinwp2010m reacted to this
Caity 3,946 Posted May 30, 2014 Far as I was aware they looked at an actual copy of the game. Nomura: “Kingdom Hearts 1 was created a long, long time ago, so actually the original data was lost. So, we had to research and we had to dig out from the actual games available, and recreate everything for HD. We had to recreate graphics, and it was actually not that easy.”" 2 kevinwp2010m and Javelin434 reacted to this
Sora96 17,256 Posted May 30, 2014 The original assets for all Square Soft games with the exception of FINAL FANTASY X-2 and FINAL FANTASY XI were lost. 3 kevinwp2010m, WakelessDream and Nero Kunivas reacted to this
peronmls 45 Posted July 12, 2014 (edited) Nomura isn't very good at understanding things and explaining it back. It's like playing phone. He's not a tecnology person he's an artist. They reversed the retail disc. They programmed everything from scratch and used higher quality models from their previous games. Though some graphical effect were actual generate by the PS2 and not textures. Stuff like this: Nothing more nothing less. peronmls 45 Posted July 29, 2014 But I still can't understand why the graphic in the trailer looked a loooot better than the real game version. Well dev PS3's have the option to enhance graphics (res, AA, AF, etc) for dev purposes. Maybe they were expecting to release the game with high graphics but ran into issues. anyway, images like those are usually "bullshots" every dev does it. It's nothing to get upset about like everyone is doing. It happends everytime a dev shows a new game. 1 kevinwp2010m reacted to this
DxBEATLESxD 12 Posted July 30, 2014 Im pretty sure he meant they had to just get it from a actual game disk and rip the game from there but im pretty sure they had somethings from the original programming that wasn't in the released game that they wanted to add now. But I would have liked it a lot if they would have corrected those "weird faces" (for example, when the face of a character seems to be staring into space.) VeNate13 144 Posted July 31, 2014 I think it's sorta funny they had to use a copy of their own game to remake it!
FutureKeybearer 36 Posted August 1, 2014 They probably had some of the assets from the ps2 version. That and also an actual copy of the ps2 version to go off of
peronmls 45 Posted August 2, 2014 (edited) Yeah, you're right. But I would have liked it a lot if they would have corrected those "weird faces" (for example, when the face of a character seems to be staring into space.)It's an early ps2 game what do you expect. It's a remaster not remake what do you expect.I think it's sorta funny they had to use a copy of their own game to remake it!First of all hd remasters are not remakes they are REMASTERS. Second people use the original all the time. Blue point studios (the best 3rd party porters ever) do it. Its to insure theyhave everything there instead of relying on possible missing or partial missing source.Third please refer remaster as REMASTERS and not remakes. Remake is like pokemon red to pokemon fire red. Edited August 2, 2014 by peronmls

peronmls 45 Posted August 2, 2014 We'll they did have to rid it off their own disk! That's still not from scratch dude. It's like me taking yokos music from her disk and adding more bass and treble to it and saying I did this from scratch.

Nero Kunivas 3,046 Posted August 2, 2014 Oh god, can we not argue about this!? Please? You can not call a Remaster: "Built from Scratch" Otherwise it would be a REMAKE. Kingdom Hearts: HD 1.5 ReMIX is not a Remake, it's a HD Remaster! Jesus. *Facepalm*
