Anime | Manga Have you ever encountered a "Read the Manga" ending in an anime you've watched?

Recommended Posts

Y'know, that moment when you watch the last episode of anime, only for the anime to end on a cliffhanger, never continued in a second season but the original manga of it is still going

I've encountered this kind of ending with three animes that I really really really loved.

Berserk

D.Gray Man

And Pandora Hearts

I really really really loved those three animes and it pissed me off so much when I reach the last episode, only to end on a cliffhanger with no announcements for a second season whatsoever

And that's so apparent in D.Gray Man.The show lasted for 103 episodes, which means it was successful enough to be a long running series yet they decided to stop it at a cliffhanger

Sure I can continue those three by reading the manga and I might do that in the near future, but it's so satisfying and more entertaining when you watch it being animated...sure Berserk got two movies after the end of the original series but from what I asked people about it's just the original series with a retconned ending that doesn't continue from where the manga continued

I'm sure someone here encountered the same situation as mine and I'd love to see how it went for you guys

Sword Art Online, although they're making up for that with season 2.

Also, Soul Eater did, but not in the sense of cliffhangers... More like "Lazy ending, go read the manga or something."

Well SAO was successful enough to warrant a second season especially with the merchandise and video games they can milk the IP with

I haven't seen the ending of Soul Eater yet(I'm at episode 20 as of now),but why did they bother with the spin-off piece of crap that is Soul Eater NOT is beyond me(I've watched the first four episode and rage quitted immediately)

Deadman Wonderland. The anime is 12 episodes long and has a lot of cut content in it of itself even when it only covers the first 21 chapters of the series AND it has different plot elements AND a redone and ambigious ending.

Fffffffffffiddlesticks.

You, sir, have no soul at all.

Well, turning a gothic-halloweeny styled Shonen action anime into a slice of life about three girls with the typical Kawaii deso character design in which they even redesigned MAKKA herself to like every other generic slice of life anime girl(seriously the only oen who still looks like a Soul Eater character is Soul himself).......guess how I'd feel about that as a fan of the original Soul Eater

Never actually watched Deadman Wonderland, but I know that's a common complaint with how they did the animated adaptation. I know they did something similar in Cromartie High School where they explicitly said you had to read the manga to learn about some characters' backstories, but I'm pretty sure that was for comedic effect. lol

I'm a fan of the original Soul Eater, yet I don't find NOT to be that horrible. You're taking it way too seriously, it's just something that was done for fun to the side. No one's supposed to take it seriously.

I'm not taking it way too seriously, but it's such a drastic change from what is known as a high action shonen with a unique art style.Cuz let me tell you Soul Eater NOT looks like every single Slice of life anime that came out ever since 2007 up to this point.Though I hope it's not canon to the original Soul Eater and just a spin-off on the side

Ouran Highschool Host Club. The series ran for 26 episodes. While I thought that the ending was decent enough, it still felt rushed to me. The ending left me wanting to see more. The manga itself ran for a grand total of 83+ chapters. There was so much more they could have done with the series had they continued. I miss my Host Club. :(

If i remember correctly it is canon, it takes place before things start going crazy in the EAT classes (i think before medusa makes her move).

So what is it? a prequel, or a midiquel?

Anyway,I just like to pretend that Soul Eater NOT doesn't exist

Katekyo Hitman Reborn.

It ended on Byakuran season, and the manga was still going on.

Oh yeah I've watched Hitman Reborn....though the Hitman Reborn series went downhill for me at least when the Byakuran arc started

Rave Master it made it to 51 episodes staying relatively true to its manga minus a few bloody scenes or so on but the anime ended on its 51st episode just as the true story of the series was about to get started i always wish that someday the series will get an anime revival from the very first episode and follow its manga all the way to the end that manga has one of the greatest stories ever told it needs to be animated

Dude, don't be closed minded. So what if its slice of life? It's a prequel series that's telling us about a brand new part of the SE world while throwing in the origins of other characters we've come to know and love in the original series. The new character aren't that bad either. Sure, it's drawn in that artstyle you mentioned, but it's the original style the series was originally going for. The manga artist only changed the style in the manga for what it's known for because people were jizzing all over the anime. Aside from that, there's a lot more going on in this then you think there is. Don't believe me? Try actually watching the show for more than one episode. It's far from generic too. This is Soul Eater after all.

I've watched SE NOT up until episode 4.....episode 4 is where I drew the line and said f*** it.

Seriously all three girls falls into the same freakin arcitype(sorry for wrong spelling btw) that I've seen in hundreds of slice of life animes,a girl with a crush on someone from her school, the dumb girl with big boobs and lastly the much more expert girl of the group, and I've already seen better animes  when it comes to this genre

why couldn't it be a prequel about other old miesters and their weapons telling their stories and how the academy was established....etc

Episode 4 isn't the best so far, so that's a little plausible. Still, I suggest you stop riding the dick of the original story so that you are able to enjoy this new take on the series. Yes, it has the girly slice of life expert but a) If I'm able to enjoy it (look at me, I'm a hardcore shonen fan you dingus, and HELL, I was AGAINST this whole idea i in the first place, I wanted a damned reboot of the original series) then you might be able to as well, with some time and b) like I said it ALSO tells events that happened before the start of the original series as well as some background for the original cast, an actual telling of what its like to be a DWMA student, AND even some new stuff we didn't know about. If you can take it for that, then great, but if you can't, go sit in the corner with all the anti-NOT fans. No seriously, go sit in the corner. Chop chop.

Holy shit man CALM THE F*** DOWN

Why the rudeness dude I'm just expressing my opinion and all of a sudden I'm a close minded dick riding dingus?

I'm just expressing my opinion,I didn't criticize the people who loved SE NOT,I'm just saying that I tried to like it but I couldn't

What are you talking about about?! I'm totally calm!! I'M THE CALMEST MAN ON THE PLANET! ... Alright wait, let me back up here.

I'm not trying to be rude, I'm just messing with you a little, first off. Second, I'm not going off on you for your own deal, I'm just trying to hammer in why I feel the way I do. You should be taking this with a grain of salt if you're so against it anyway. What do my ramblings mean anyway? :/ I'm not gonna glue you to a chair and force feed the anime down your throat.

That's because they had done with KHR the same that they did with Soul Eater.

The manga turned to be much more interesting by the end.
