Building my Wii and Wii U library! Game suggestions?

Recommended Posts

I'm slowly but surely looking to build my video game library for my new Wii U that is supposed to arrive tomorrow, and would just love some game suggestions.  I'm a massive fan of JRPGs, Mario, a little Sonic, and am obsessed with Final Fantasy, Fire Emblem, Golden Sun, and, most obviously, Kingdom Hearts.  I already purchased Twilight Princess and Mario Tennis; any other games that I should aim for?

I am new to the Wii U as well, so all I have is Wind Walker, Mario & Sonic at Kochi, and new Super Mario Bros. But as far as the Wii goes, I would suggest the Last Story, Pandoras Tower, Xenoblade (Although this runs quite expensive), & Skyward Sword are great ones for JRPG fans.

Get monster hunter 4 ultimate, super mario 3d world, new super mario bros u and donkey kong tropical freeze. they are all fab.

Great suggestions, thanks!  I'm curious: have you played New Super Luigi U?  I've noticed that it's a *lot* cheaper than New Super Mario Bros. U, though I'm not sure what the main difference is.  Does it suck in comparison or something? : P

Pikmin 3 is a good choice.  Wind Waker HD.  Both of those games are free game options with Mario Kart 8.  Remember, the entire Wii library can be played on Wii U, though you will need a Wii Remote and any attachments that those games require.  Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze is definately a must have.  Super Mario 3D World is fun to play with friends, though the tablet use leaves much to be desired.

Games for the Wii that you should get: Skyward Sword (though linear and Fi pointing out the obvious, it still is a fun game), Metroid Prime Trilogy (a hard find, though it is great to play all 3 Prime console games with Corruption controls), Donkey Kong Country Returns, and Xenoblade Chronicles (Also a hard find).

GBA games are part of the Wii U virtual console.  Golden Sun is on it, and I am pretty sure its sequal will soon follow.  Earthbound is a great and funny game.  Nintendo has announced DS games as part of the virtual console (though I don't know if any games have been announced).

Wii:

Super Smash Bros Brawl (To keep you entertained until the Wii U one is released)

Xenoblade Chronicles (Fairly expensive, but well worth it)

Super Mario Galaxy

Super Mario Galaxy 2

Super Paper Mario

Chrono Trigger (Virtual console)

The Legend of Zelda :Skyward Sword (Much better than Twilight Princess in my opinion)

Wii U:

Super Mario 3D World

The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD

Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze

Pikmin 3

EarthBound (Virtual console, totally worth getting since the physical cartridge costs almost as much as a Wii U itself)

New Super Mario Bros U/New Super Luigi U (Luigi U is DLC for Mario U, although you can get it seperately. It feels like a different game, though. The only similarities are the world themes).

Just a few off the top of my head.

There aren't really any JRPG's that I know of for the Wii U at the moment, but these are also some good games:

Super Smash Bros. for Wii U (Winter) and 3DS (Summer)

Mario Kart 8 (Coming May 30th)

Zelda Wii U (Will be revealed at E3 2014)

Super Mario 3D World (Great game!)

More games being announced at E3.... >:(

Ooh, really now?  How very encouraging; I think I might should get this.  I know that you also are very fond of the traditional SNES games, which makes me think that I would probably like this.  Many thanks for the help. ; )

Radiant Dawn is *definitely* on my list, but I'm shuddering at the price. : P  I'm having troubles finding it much below $55, and that's without tax/shipping.   As for Golden Sun, hmm . . . would this be the GBA downloads?  If so, I actually already own these for the GBA. Love them to pieces!

I know you said you're a massive JRPG fan but I thought I'd recommend Donkey Kong Country Returns for Wii and Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze for Wii U. Both are excellent games and you should give them a try.

Hey, Donkey Kong Country is awesome, too; thanks for the suggestion.  I'm a massive game of the original Donkey Kong Country games for the SNES, so I think I really should get the Wii U version.  Thanks!

FINAL FANTASY Crystal Chronicles titles.

Hmm . . . .  Do you know if these are very good?  I was actually eyeing these at my local game store today, but I've heard that they're not so good.  I'm highly considering them, though, because you know how I am when it comes to Final Fantasy. ; )

Hmm, Xenoblade Chronicles . . . .  I've heard a lot of good feedback on this series, and am thinking I really should check it out.  I'm *definitely* getting Mario Kart 8 (in fact, the prime reason I got the Wii U was so that I could play Mario Kart 8; I'm such a nerd. : P), though I didn't know it was possible to get Wind Waker for free through this . . . .  How exactly is this possible?  Does it cost anything for registering it or something?

I love Chrono Trigger!  It's a positively amazing game, which I actually derived my user name from (Magus i.e. the Mystics' "apprentice").  I was thinking to get only one Mario game for starters, though I can't decide between the Galaxy games, Mario Bros games, or Super Mario World 3D.  I really enjoyed Super Mario 3D Land, much better than NEW Super Mario Bros, though both are pretty awesome.  Which one would you recommend or, rather, what Mario game did you enjoy most?

All-in-all, these are marvelous suggestions; thanks, everyone!

I'd recommed 3D World if you're only going with one, it's definitely my favorite of them. Heck, it's actually my favorite Mario game overall. It's really good.

I don't play Wii or Wii U games so I can't comment. They don't cost much, so just go for it.

Wii:

-The Last Story

-Xenoblade Chronicles

-Super Mario Galaxy 1 or 2

-Smash Bros Brawl (though it might be worth just waiting for Smash on Wii U later this year)

-Fire Emblem Radiant Dawn

- Secret of Mana and Chrono Trigger (They'll be on the Wii Virtual Console)

Wii U:

-Super Mario 3D World

-Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze

-Super Luigi U

-Earthbound (Wii U Virtual Console)

-Advance Wars (Wii U Virtual Console - I recommend it mainly because it's a tactics game developed by the guys who did Fire Emblem and it's a pretty good game)

-The Wonderful 101

Also, a game worth keeping an eye on for Wii U will be X that will be out sometime this year. It's by the guys that gave us Xenoblade Chronicles and it's shaping up to be a very good (and beautiful looking) JRPG.
