FINAL FANTASY XV or as it was known then, FINAL FANTASY Versus XIII was announced exclusively for the PlayStation 3 eight years ago. It was to be developed by the Kingdom Hearts team which is of course led by director Tetsuya Nomura and producer Shinji Hashimoto along with Yoshinori Kitase who inherited the series from it's creator.

 

Sounds like the new dream team right? RIGHT? Well you'd think so, and hope so. But it hasn't proven to be the case.

 

The following year they released Kingdom Hearts II Final Mix+ and to this day they haven't released anything. Sound familiar? Hiroyuki Ito's FINAL FANTASY XII team hasn't released anything since then either. That team's key people went to work on the FINAL FANTASY X/XIII team led by Kitase and Motomu Toriyama or the FINAL FANTASY XIV team while it's co-director and producer, Ito has gone missing.

 

Back on track here, we can safely assume that in 2011 after showing the final Versus XIII trailer, Square Enix were approached by Sony to develop it for PlayStation 4 instead. Which in fairness has delayed it by two or three years. Fun times. Now we can only hope they announce a "2015" release year.

Different teams. Osaka are doing the KH HD collections. HD 1.5 ReMIX started development in 2010, before X/X-2 HD Remaster.

They aren't just upscaling them though. That's exactly why it's taken a year. Square Enix do much more than upscale them. If you want to see a game that is simply upscaled look at Dragon Ball Z Budokai HD Collection.

 

They are making NEW cutscenes for Re:coded. And they won't redub the ones already made, but there have been plenty to record for.

 

The Re:coded cutscenes are finished. Square Enix will announce a release date at E3. 

 

Plain and simple, Square Enix put A LOT more effort into their HD collections despite having very few people actually working them. And if they put out HD 2.5 ReMIX faster, it would take Kingdom Hearts III even longer.

At this point , I'm sure most people would've wanted it on the PS3 so we wouldn't have to wait an eternity. Nomura said he originally planned it for the PS3 but then he decided to wait and make it for the PS4 when the plans for that came out thinking 'better newer console " to work with  = better game . I guess in some ways you can argue that's true, but in other ways it's damaged the fan base bc that long of a wait pissed a lot of people off. You don't wan't to piss off the consumers bc they are giving you their money. No money = bad for SE. Especially since they have struggled .

 

As for me, I'm pretty patient and I will wait and enjoy KH3 whenever it comes out .

I'm pretty patient too, I've got no issue waiting to 2017 or whenever for Kingdom Hearts III. Square Enix did need another team to release a FINAL FANTASY game during the PS3 era though and that could and should be have been the Kingdom Hearts team.

That's the problem. Despite a loyal fanbase KH is just not a priority to them like FF is. Also, after a wait like this both KH3 and the FF game better shit rainbows bc expectations are so high that, no matter what, people will complain regardless even if both games were masterpieces .It's hard to live up to the hype and expectations after waiting this long for both of these games . Hopefully the strong reaction to KH3's announcement will show what this game means to people after all this time .

Same here....Kingdom Hearts 3 can wait...They started development some months ago, so no bother trying to complain.....Right now if Final Fantasy XV takes toooo long to release, then everybody has a reason to complain...It's been in development for awhile, it should not take too long for the game to be finished....About 2.5, I agree with Red Tribal, it should not take long just to re-polish a game. Espcially since Final Mix had english dub.

And let's not forget how long it took them to make the Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD collection. Square-Enix really need to be a litttle more faster with making their games. Sure developement of games takes a while but it should NOT take 8+ years to make a new game.

They developed it IN HOUSE. Square Enix does their HD remasters in house, other companies prefer to get other developers to do it for them.

They LOST the assets for FINAL FANTASY X. The oldest game they have the original assets for is FINAL FANTASY XI.

You ask them, because no one else has. Maybe for most developers, but Square Enix don't think that way at all. They CARE about them.
