I think you're misinterpreting this. The original version didn't fail because the graphics were "too good". What they mean is that they put too much focus on graphics, instead of focusing on the experience and getting the game released. There is a clear difference between the PS3 and PS4 versions. IGN even stated that the PC version still looks better than the PS4 version.
