(Note:I didn't add SRPG "Strategy RPG" to the vote because it falls into the category of turn based combat)

I bet some of you guys have played a lot of RPGs during your gaming lives(except for those who played no RPG but Kingdom Hearts),some action RPGs like Kingdom Hearts or some turn based traditional JRPG like Final Fantasy,Pokemon......etc.

Which style of those two do you prefer?Action RPGs or Turn-based ones?

Personally,at first I used to prefer action RPG but nowadays I fell in love with the turn based style for two main reasons:It's strategic and it requires you to think.

Yeah some action RPGs like some of the Tales of games have some strategic elements to them, but in most cases with other games most of the time it resorts into button mashing affair with you spending most of your time with the boss mashing the X or the A button....sure it's fun to do in some games when it's done well but for me it doesn't feel as satisfying as devising the ultimate strategy with the right combination of spells, special skills and weapons to completely annihilate your opponent.

That's why I love the old FF games so much alongside other turn-based RPGs in the genre...but that's just me.

What about you guys?

Dude I didn't say which one is better,I said which one do you prefer

I know. And I just said depends on the game for me. Kingdom Hearts is better suited to action while FINAL FANTASY is better suited to the ATB imo.

I can't really choose. I like Action because it adds a good momentum and pace to the game, it isn't sluggish and slow like Turn-Based Combat. But on the other hand Turn Based Combat takes a lot more strategy to chose from a lot of different commands whereas Action Combat is just Hack, Slash, Run away, Repeat. But as i said i love both types.

Action. To be honest I get why most rpg's are more strategic, but in all honesty it takes me out of the whole expierence with Turn Based games. I hate the constant switching between gameplay and walking, get me? Like, I hate when I'm walking and it's all calm and then BOOM "DUN DUN DUN DUN DUNNNNN!!"!!! Personally I rather have action, it keeps the vibe and feel of the game more consistent.

Well I only played Kingdom Hearts as an action RGP

As for Turn-Based RPG, I only played Pokémon and right now Dragon Quest.

So I really don't have that much experience to say something >.<

I get what you're saying and I understand where you're coming from

I love both don't get me wrong but I prefer turn-based a little bit more since I grew up with RPGs like Pokemon

I lean more towards action RPG. If it's the long tedious types of turn based RPG's with 5 zillion menus/commands to chose from, then f*** no; I ain't got no time for that shite. The turn based ones like on Pokemon are ok with me though.

Both. Games like KH, Pokemon, heck even the latter's spin offs have a little of both.

You mean the mystery dungeon games?

I really should try to play them especially since everyone says it's the best spin-off series for Pokemon

I really like both. Action is fast-paced and intense, and makes me feel more involved. Turn-based is slower and strategic, and I really like having to think through my actions. I really can't decide between the two.

Yeah. It's still turn-based, but it feels less restrictive with the game mechanics. Probably because you get to move, attack, or run away. (That or use long-ranged attacked and/or multi-hitting moves like Earth Power that hit everything in sight)
