Sora96 17,256 Posted April 10, 2014 I asked Square Enix if they could provide a Steam-Free version of FINAL FANTASY VII and FINAL FANTASY VIII but sadly they won't be. Here's their response. We are sorry to hear that you are unhappy with our decision to use the Steam Client. Unfortunately, all modern games are currently moving on to this format if they have not already, and we will be unable to provide a Steam-Free version. 1 WakelessDream reacted to this

Sora96 17,256 Posted April 10, 2014 so everything is becoming digital? Or do I have it wrong? Oh, everything's been becoming digital for awhile. They just won't provide a Steam-Free version on their online store. Still would be digital, just without Steam.

Sora96 17,256 Posted April 10, 2014 Whats steam? that's PS4 right? Lol. No. Steam is a digital distribution, digital rights management, multiplayer, and communications platform developed by Valve Corporation. It is used to distribute games and related media online, from small independent developers to larger software houses.
Amber Cole 1,557 Posted April 10, 2014 ooohhh! I see! that makes sense now and going back to the digital thing, I would think that making everything digital would make it easier for people to pirate things . wouldn't it?

I see! that makes sense now and going back to the digital thing, I would think that making everything digital would make it easier for people to pirate things . wouldn't it? Yes, but Square Enix make all their games check the license first. Basically allowing Square Enix to confirm the user did purchase it legally.

Hardrada 117 Posted April 10, 2014 Why would you need a steam free version? People can just get the steam version.
Sora96 17,256 Posted April 11, 2014 Why would you need a steam free version? People can just get the steam version. I don't like Steam. And they offer Non-Steam versions of the other FINAL FANTASY games on PC.

Sora96 17,256 Posted April 11, 2014 What's not to like about steam? I find it's GUI ugly. It's all U.S based. I don't even play PC games to begin with, so I don't exactly want the biggest PC game client in the world installed on my ultrabook.

Sora96 17,256 Posted April 12, 2014 They're available on other platforms. Yeah, but there's only one other version, the PSOne version and I'd rather not pay $14.45 for a PSOne game.

Sora96 17,256 Posted April 13, 2014 If you're not willing to pay to play them, and you're not willing to play them on pc, then that's on you. Of course I'm wiling to pay to play them. $14.45 is a rip-off for an emulated version of a PSOne game.

Hardrada 117 Posted April 14, 2014 Physical copies are different. Physical copies are different.Obviously, but my point was that the price isn't unreasonable. Of course those who play the pc versions can usually get them cheaper.
