Heya guys since there been's a increasing number of Kamen Rider fans on this site I decided to make this thread based around them and to give out info on who exactly are they, and why they are pretty popular in Japan and within the states to people who barely knows about them.

 

So what is Kamen Rider....?

 

The Kamen Rider Series (translated as Masked Rider Series) is a metaseries of manga and tokusatsu television programs and films created by manga artist Shotaro Ishinom The various Kamen Rider media generally feature a motorcycle-riding superhero with an insect motif who fights supervillains often referred to as kaijin.  The franchise began in 1971 with the Kamen Rider television series which followed college student Takeshi Hongo and his quest to defeat the world-conquering Shocker organization. Over the years, the popularity of the franchise has grown and the original series has spawned many television and theatrical sequels.

 

Wait... Isn't this like Power Rangers, but Japanese style..? No.

 

Like Power Rangers, Kamen Rider is aimed at children, but in a very different sort of way. The series never condescends to its audience, and it doesn't shy away from topics like death that kid's series often do. Of course, in saying that, It dosen't mean to imply that Kamen Rider is grim and gritty. The show is often lighthearted and sometimes downright silly, and things sometimes work out for the best in spite of countless obstacles. It's more that the series isn't afraid to do what is tonally appropriate, whether that is something tragic, a happy ending, or something in between. (Plus No megazords)

 

I'm interested! But there is so many to choose from... Where should I start from...?

 

From personal experience I'll reccemond my top 3 which is also consider fan favorites among japan and here in the states.

 

First in the list is Kamen Rider Den-O

In Kamen Rider Den-O, an unlucky young man named Ryotaro Nogami stumbles across an unusual train pass. On the same day, he finds himself possessed by an imagin, a creature that can gain a physical form by making a contract with a user. He discovers that the train pass is for the DenLiner, a train that has the ability to travel through time. Ryotaro can also use the pass to transform into Kamen Rider Den-O, and is able to fight by letting his imagin possess him. Together, they fight to stop imagin who want to destroy the future by wreaking havok on the past.

 

Kamen Rider W

 

CYCLONE JOKER!!

 

 

Kamen Rider W is set in Fuuto, a fictional, wind powered city. Shoutarou Hidari, a detective who strives to be hardboiled, but is truthfully halfboiled, and Philip, an eccentric genius with data access abilities, fight together as Kamen Rider W. Devices called Gaia Memories enable residents to fight as monsters called dopants, but the memories often wind up taking control of the user. Along with Akiko Narumi, the daughter of Shoutarou's mentor, Shoutarou and Philip run a detective agency that specializes in Gaia Memory related cases.

 

Kamen Rider OOO's

 

Taka, Tora, Batta! Ta-To-Ba! Tatoba, Ta-To-Ba

 

 

In Kamen Rider OOO, a group of monsters known as Greeed awaken after 800 years of slumber. One of the Greeed, Ankh, is unable to restore his full form. Because of this, he finds Eiji, a wanderer who travels with nothing but money and his underwear for the next day, and convinces him to fight with him as OOO. Eiji is assisted in his fight by a mysterious organization known as the Kougami Foundation.

Kamen Rider Gaim

 

ORANGE ARMS!

 

 

Because of the large company, Yggdrasill Corporation setting up shop in the once bustling city of Zawame ; the community started to become more like a jōkamachi  To escape the feeling of being under castle authority, dance crews were formed by young people to bring joy back to the public. Along with this is a popular game that uses the mysterious Lockseeds that contain animals called Inves that are said to come from another dimension.

As the game becomes more popular, tears in reality begin to open that bring the Inves from their home dimension to Earth. Kota Kazuraba, a young man who recently quit his dance crew Team Gaim (to help his sister Akira Kazuraba), finds a special Lockseed and the Sengoku Driver to become Kamen Rider Gaim. He must fight the sudden appearance of the Inves, but also against other Kamen Riders, effectively becoming a Kamen Rider warring states period.

Though Gaim started out as horrible fruit samurai dancers trying to get to the top of the leaderboards, it is actually a very great show down the road.

 

The dancing was a bit of annoyance, but I wouldn't go as far to say it was horrible plus Kouta is the only Saumrai theme rider on a Beat Rider team. They were just dancing because it was the only spirit they had left after Yggdrasill came in and took over.
