Anime | Manga What's the situation that makes you resort to sub instead of dub?

Recommended Posts

I try my best to watch anime in English, but in case I couldn't I'll resort to sub in two cases.

1when the anime I watch was never released outside of Japan or it's gonna be a long time before said anime get picked by a dubbing studio to dub it to English

2When the English version is falling waaaaaaaaaaaaay behind the Japanese version in terms of episodes, like if the Japanese version is already 10 episodes away from you

Otherwise,I'll do my best to watch anime in either English or in my first language(which is Arabic ......uhhhhh screw you SpaceToon and your horrible dub and editing)

Neither. I always watch with subs(Unless, it's the anime ''The melancholy of Haruhi suzumiya'', because that anime's English dub, is actually better and more fitting than the Japanese one.). I'm a fast reader....I can read the subtitles as fast as it's being said and still take in the scene. I don't rush, that's just how fast I read, so it doesn't bother me. I can see why others would prefer to have a dub, though.

I'm a fast reader but I mostly prefer dub......as long as said dub is good and not as shit as Angel Cop and Diatron-5....not that those two were good to begin with as both are horrible but their dub is sooooo awful

Whenever it involves too much censoring, unnecessary edits ranging from names to attacks, (nope, not Pokemon because they do a better job renaming) and/or if the dub sounds horrible.

I always try to wait for the dub, but once I see the sheer amounts of what I said above, I'll go to the subs.

I generally tended to watch the subs cause the animes weren't in English.  When they're in English I can happily watch them, long as the voice acting fits the character.  Like no offense to Vic, his voice was not at all suited to the voice of Zero, clearly was picked for him 'cause he's popular but it's too soft for Zero's personality.  As such I wasn't 6 minutes of the English Dub and went back to the subbed version.

Whenever i finished watching Hetalia: The Beautiful World (and the extra episodes, of course), i always waited for the English dubs to come out. But for some strange reason, they're taking longer than i thought. Just saying.

I always watch subbed animé series these days (though I first got into animé by watching Pokémon, Digimon, Yu-Gi-Oh etc. in English) however if it's a Studio Ghibli film I tend to watch the newer ones in English, eg. Howl's Moving Castle and Spirited Away, but the older ones, eg. Laputa: Castle In the Sky, in Japanese. Partly it depends on how good the dub is and which version I watched first.

1. When the subs are way ahead of the dubs, or dubs haven't started yet.

2. When I can't watch the dubs through an official source, since I like to support the teams that work on the anime.

1. The dub is a piece of shit

2.There is no dub

Only ever for Dragon Ball Z/GT/Kai or Yu-Gi-Oh! GX/5D's episodes and specials never dubbed in English.

There are some other really good anime you could watch besides the cartoon network type stuff. A really good obscure one I can think of is The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya or Welcome to the NHK. They both have dubs.
