Mystics Apprentice 2,397 Posted April 5, 2014 The head of the group seemed to hesitate greatly upon the request of Locket and Elia, causing the teen to fidget. Much to her relief, he casually agreed, introducing himself along with the rest of the squad. Elia smiled warmly and bowed her head. "The pleasure is mine. While I don't have one of those key-thingies that I've heard you guys talk about, I do have a fair amount of white magic, and can heal any wounds that you incur, even though I hope this doesn't happen." She jerked her head in Locket's direction. "But she can use one, on the other hand. I'd seen her wipe out a whole army of those black soulless creatures just a short while before we'd stumbled upon you." Having said that, Elia turned and began in the direction of the mountain. While it was a lengthy trek, she hoped, and was rather optimistic, that they would arrive there within a half day's walk. Words couldn't define how relieved she was to no longer be traversing the Realm of Darkness alone. For a while she had thought herself to be the only one there, and now she had five wonderful companions. Of course, none were as great as Ari in her eyes, but she was satisfied with what she had for now.
Captain Arrowguns 466 Posted April 5, 2014 (Um, just to clarify, everyone's surrounded by bloodthirsty shadows bent on killing everyone.) "Hmph, fine by me, arrow boy." Blight said, and then noticed that they were surrounded on all sides by small dark monsters. Two of them lunged at Blight, but he was able to pull out his guns and shoot them out of the sky before they could get to him. "So, any bright ideas, partner?" Blight asked, shooting at the horde of creatures. Rain summoned her staff, and began using every basic spell she could thing of off the top of her head against the creatures, "Fire! Thunder! Gravity! Hey guys, a little help here?" she called to the others around her, who were apparently too busy socializing to notice the danger surrounding them.

This was one of those moments where Elia was beyond thankful for her bow and arrow that had been provided to her by unknown sources. "I wouldn't worry too much about her," he chuckled, "something tells me Kiwi will take good care of her." He looked up the mountain, and was surprised that they had managed to descend the daunting terrain in a relatively short time as he looked over to the raven-haired girl. "We'll get up there pretty quick, miss. As long as we don't have to confront any-" Completing his sentence, Hawk yelled to the team as he leveled his rifle and squeezed the trigger at a shadow. "Hostiles!" Well... Out of the frying pan, and into the fire. "Blitzkrieg!" Sparrow shouted as he did what was quite possibly the most undisciplined and stupidest thing he could have done in his entire career as a keyblade guard: Dual wielding his keyblade and arrow rifle. Without even thinking in the obvious breach of discipline, he leveled the rifle and fired into the sea of shadows before throwing his magical keyblade into it, hoping that it would deal some damage. "Go!" he addressed to Rain, Locket and Elia as his keyblade appeared in his hand again, "We'll hold them off for as long as we can! Get to the mountain-top! We'll meet you there!" His shouts were matched by the shouting of the other boys in his squad as they started scurrying around in a tactical maneuver, all while opening fire on the seemingly relentless wave of shadows. Please... At least let Hawk see the end of this. He's expecting a kid back home for crying out loud... Edited April 6, 2014 by Javelin434

Mystics Apprentice 2,397 Posted April 6, 2014 A frown creased Elia's forehead at Sparrow's command. Elia allowed another arrow to fly, prepping the next one in quick succession. "Are you mad? There's too many of them! I know that you guys are trained soldiers and whatnot, but you'll need us if we all want to make it out unharmed." With that, Elia unleashed another one of her confusion charms upon her enemies, though it took much more of her strength this time to affect them. Javelin434 3,164 Posted April 8, 2014 Locket opened her mouth to protest at the order, but thought better and nodded. She sprinted towards the mountain with her Keyblade ready in case she was attacked by any heartless. "Come on!" She shouted to Elia and Rain as she ran full speed to the mountain. She looked back briefly at the group. We'll meet you there. She wondered if that was really ever going to happen. A frown creased Elia's forehead at Sparrow's command. She didn't know how long it would last, but she feared not long. Everyone in Nightwing Squad was collectively growling at the seemingly impossible odds as shot after shot was sent in every direction to stem the tide of battle. Their maneuvers were slightly working, battle proven and battle tested as Sparrow effectively communicated the plans. "Who ordered the bottomless Shadow Sunday special!?" Raven yelled to the group, bringing a wicked smile to the group that looked somewhat demented and twisted to outsiders as he started slashing with his keyblade, everyone else using their rifles to fight back the hoard. "Come on!" Sparrow heard Locket shout as she started running off towards their agreed rally point up the mountain. Keep moving, miss Locket. We'll grab their attention so everyone can focus on getting up there faster. the leader thought to himself as he let off another shot, then threw his keyblade again at another shadow. "Are you mad? There's too many of them! I know that you guys are trained soldiers and whatnot, but you'll need us if we all want to make it out unharmed." He heard Elia shout back, stunning the hardened leader for a moment as she casted her confusion spell onto the horde. I never thought I would see the day where we would actually get help from others. Thank you, Elia. We can mop up the rest from here... Satisfied with the result, Sparrow called his keyblade away and broke his rifle into two, becoming their sub-rifle form as the thunderous single echo of his rifle shot suddenly became what sounded akin to a buzzsaw. "Arrow-Storm!" the leader shouted to his squadmates, and in a matter of seconds the entire team had switched to the dual sub-rifle configuration, effectively quadrupling their fire output at the cost of damage. The resulting wall of arrow-shots and the subsequent thinning of the number of shadows was a golden window of opportunity for the leader as he looked over to a faithful squad member. "Kiwi!" he shouted over the deafening shots, "break formation and form up with Locket!" The bewildered reinforcer looked at him with slight disgust and confusion. "But-" "That's an order! Besides, you're the fastest runner, so you can catch up! Nail any shadow that's waiting for us up there!" Kiwi's head twitched for a moment as he quickly suppressed his mental battle of staying with his friends versus following orders, and started running off towards Locket and the top of the mountain, tears streaking down his face as he feared about the very real danger he won't be seeing his friends at the rally point like they promised. I really hope I'm doing the right thing. I can't forgive myself if I'm the only one to survive the group... With their fastest and steadiest shooter darting for the white-haired cutie, Sparrow could only chuckle as he finally downed another shadow, then looked over to Rain and Elia. "Get going you two! Secure the rally point! We'll meet you there!" And make sure Kiwi keeps his hands to himself around Locket. Not that I need to worry, knowing where we're at the odds of another enemy encounter... rikunobodyxiii 700 Posted April 8, 2014 Claire gritted her teeth and stepped closer to Penny and Reni, ready to get answers, when the dark creatures appeared, surrounding them. She turned to keep these creatures out of her back arc. "If one of you isn't responsible for summoning these, then you'd better get ready to fight for your life." She said before launching her first attack. She jabbed her Keyblade out, sending a bolt of lightning directly out of her blade and at one of the creatures. She then dashed forward, slashing two more before bringing up her shield to block a counterattack.

[En-route to mountain-top. Kiwi] The surroundings seemed to blur past the fastest rifleman in the squad as Kiwi ran towards Locket, his heartbeat and rhythmic breathing being the only thing he was hearing at the moment. The voices of his squadmates echoed in his thoughts as he saw a shadow in front of Locket, but the girl was too busy looking at everyone else that was behind to notice. Form up with Locket! That's an order! Everything that followed was instinctive for the supporter as his hands reached around behind his back to grab the slinging rifle, months of makeshift training allowing the boy to become hyper-effective at running and gunning as he leveled the rifle at the shadow. Despite the fact that he was still sprinting as he looked down the sights, his aim remained steady and true as he quickly pulled the trigger, eliminating the shadow as he simultaneously rushed past the white haired girl. "Try and keep up!" Kiwi managed to say as he started to run past her, not really sure how to feel about the current situation. ----- Meanwhile... Raven, Hawk, and Sparrow had started their run as they too tried to ascend the mountain to get to the swamplands beyond it. They stayed close to Rain and Elia, since protecting others was something the guards were better at doing than freelance attacking, and entrenching themselves was out of the options. The situation looked hopeless for the team as they continued their unforgiving, relentless fire on the shadows. But for every shadow that fell, three more seemed to replace it, and they were quickly being surrounded. "Focus fire on the front!" Sparrow commanded of his faithful friends, "punch a hole through the ring and get to the mountain-top!"

Mystics Apprentice 2,397 Posted April 13, 2014 While the raven-haired girl could be stubborn, she decided to follow the orders provided and went along with Rain up the mountain. It was a steeper incline than she had initially anticipated. Even when running at full speed, she found herself very slowly covering ground. She felt the cool wind rush past her face and whip her hair, arms pumping rapidly at her sides. It didn't take long for her to acquire a stitch in her side and become breathless. Just as she slowed, however, the Shadows began to lurk and form menacingly around her, causing her to regain her initial pace. She turned to her companion, Rain, and mildly mused how she could still hold out as well as she was. Some soldier she certainly was proving to be. "They're--catching up to us!" Elia gasped, breathless. She didn't know what would happen, but at this rate the Heartless would catch up to them much sooner than they caught up to the mountain. * * * * * Ari brought a hand to her cheek before removing it to examine. Blood stained her fingertips, though it wasn't enough to concern the young woman. A thin line ran across her cheekbone from her latest encounter with one of the Heartless, but, again, it wasn't enough to slow or concern her. No, bigger threats surrounded them, but she didn't think it would be more than they could handle. Especially with Braxen and Power alongside her. Summoning her Keyblade, Ari dashed forward, swinging her Keyblade through one of the menacing dark creatures while stabbing another in the chest in quick succession. Upon hearing her name Ari glanced up, and found Power a short distance away looking right at her. His question mildly surprised her, causing her to stare at him momentarily before seeming to snap out of her daze and respond. "Yes, I'm--I'm quite fine. I have seen far worse than this." At this she gave a hollow laugh. "Let's finish this, shall we? After all, I'd love to see your flame-throwing skills firsthand when I'm not the target." Captain Arrowguns 466 Posted April 13, 2014 "Those marshes over there look fairly free of monsters, and they're not far. Come on!" Penny shouted to Claire. Normally she wouldn't dare team up with a soldier of light, but there were a lot of shadows in between her and those monsters, and she needed all the help she could get. She then continued to head for the marshes, slashing at shadows as she went. Most of them were merely knocked to the side instead of destroyed, but she didn't have time to worry about that. *** Rain and the others in her group made it to the top of the mountain, but they were surrounded by shadows on evory side. "Um, any bright ideas?" she asked, not quite sure what to do. *** As much as Braxen didn't want to admit it, Max was right. If they stayed here, many of them would probably die. He turned to Ari, "Ari, come on. We need to get out of here! Follow me." he said, and began following Max to the edge of a forest.

Essentially becoming Vanguards to Rain and Elia, Nightwing Team sans Kiwi formed a protective pack around the two girls as they quickly ascended the mountain, that is until Elia started to become breathless. With their pace slowing down, the threat of becoming overwhelmed by the horde of ever surrounding shadows became more of a reality as Raven quickly gave a suggestion to the girls. None of the team were panting or really that out of breath; years of combat training had prepared them for moments like this [Except Kiwi, who always swore by Krispy Kupo Donuts for his prolonged sprinting speeds] as their breathing was somewhat faster than normal, but none of them were sweating. "They're--catching up to us!" Elia gasped. "Fun fact," the medic calmly informed the girls despite the situation, "inhale just as your left foot strikes the ground. You'll run longer that way." The tip apparently paid off as everyone finally arrived at the mountaintop, only to see their fastest defender busying himself as he faithfully carried out his last known orders: securing the summit for everyone else so they can take a break. At least, he was trying to if it wasn't for another hoard of shadows that have decided to jump him. With his dual sub-rifles constantly droning at the enemy, Kiwi's face lit up as soon as he was the rest of the posse regrouping with him. "About time you showed up!" he screamed over the arrow-fire, "You were all about to miss the party!" Sparrow smirked as he finally stood side by side with his faithful friend, unloading several clips in a specific direction as he relayed the next orders. "Get to the swamplands!" he yelled, "One of the girls said there's less shadows there!" "Works for us!" Raven, Hawk, and Kiwi yelled back in unison. With the team back to full strength, the rifle touting squad focused on making their way to the supposed safe area within the desolate hellstorm that was the Realm of Darkness... Mystics Apprentice 2,397 Posted April 14, 2014 (That's very interesting on the breathing tip, Javelin. I tried this during my run yesterday and hey! it really does work. ; ) Thanks for the advice, even if through the RP.) Elia was a bit skeptical over the medic's words, but sure enough the breathing tip really did help wonders. She found herself able to trek along much longer than she'd been able to initially, and had made it to the mountaintop with the others. There wasn't much to be seen here, however, excepting a splendid view of the Realm of Darkness surrounding them. It was far larger than the young teen had anticipated, as well as much more foreboding. Everywhere she glanced the ground appeared black, though this was probably due to more of these Heartless creatures sprouting from the ground. The mountain was no exception to the Heartless threat, as more continued to bound at them mercilessly. Elia casted a quick confusion spell on a couple of the nearby Heartless, causing them to halt and stand, dumbfounded, long enough for her to send an arrow flying through their chests. Both disappeared in a puff of black smoke, which lingered in the air for a considerable length of time. This was not going to work. More Heartless appeared as they were destroyed, and even with their number it seemed like a fruitless effort. That was when she heard Sparrow announce that they head for the swamplands. The raven-haired teen nodded in assent, before swinging her bow across her body and speeding off in that direction. Going downhill was much faster--as well as easier--than going up. Now she only had to be careful not to stumble into the person ahead of her. * * * * * * Ari had just struck a towering Heartless in the chest, causing it to dissipate in a puff of smoke. Casting Haste on one's self really did wonders. The tall dark soldier turned to face Braxen as he spoke, wiping strands of black hair from her sweaty forehead. He'd insisted for her to follow him. While normally she would retort, the forest didn't look like a bad direction to head towards, and certainly beat the thrashing that they were currently receiving. "Sounds like a plan," she replied. "After all, following's much easier than leading. I just greatly hope you know where you're going." This she doubted, however, since the Realm of Darkness was new to them all. But she pushed the thought away and focused on not slipping. [i did a little bit of running back then, and that was one of the tips another runner suggested. It did work wonders It really is a fun fact ] With the ever persistent swarm of heartless slowly starting to overwhelm Nightwing Squad, Sparrow had to think really fast, or actually face the fact that everyone he held close to his heart will fade away into the darkness infested place. "Kiwi!" he finally yelled, "Go backboarding down the mountain! Secure the swamplands and wipe out anything that follows you!" "Backboarding?" the now eager scout yelled back, "can do! I'll see you there!" As Kiwi prepared himself to have some fun, he saw Locket and Elia quickly making their way down the mountain. Their pace made him realize just why Sparrow had ordered everyone up the mountain in the first place rather than take the long way around: it was easier for them to run faster, giving them an advantage against the shadows. The girls had a good start, but Kiwi wasn't gonna let some pretty white-haired beauty slip away from him as he sprinted down the mountain at first, then deliberately started sliding as he threw his back against the sloped ground, the flat backplate of his armor serving as a literal board as the playful scout was now sliding down the mountain. He bent his knees slightly, half to help with steering, the other half to steady his aim as he started firing off several steady shots at some shadows in front of him. It didn't take long for Kiwi to catch up with the girls, and instead of trying to slow down, he decided instead to clear the path in front of the girls first as he zoomed past them with such a speed that he was only able to shout "weeeeee!!!" before getting out of earshot. It didn't take long for him to finally reach the base of the mountain, where he finally got back onto his own two feet and started clearing the area for the others. ----- Meanwhile... After seeing that Elia and Locket were about halfway down the mountain, Sparrow called the group to evacuate the summit. "Backboard! Form up with the girls!" he shouted to Raven and Hawk, who merely nodded as they too started to slid down the mountain, aiming to rejoin Elia and Locket. As the ground slid underneath him, Sparrow grinned as his two best friends were on his immediate flanks, their rifles out and blazing a path down towards Elia and Locket. Having this much fun should be against the rules... he thought to himself, before deciding to pick up his fair share of enemies as the trio slid closer and closer to the two girls... Arya Stark 1,337 Posted April 18, 2014 "Brilliant idea." Quint replied. He continued to fire as he backed up slowly, before turning and sprinting away. He needed to buy them some time, distract the creatures somehow. His mind flashed back to the battle he had faced with Blight a moment before. The light grenade! Of course! Quint summoned another one in his hand, and tossed it over his shoulder. He wouldn't be able to perform such a feat of magic for a long while more. The grenade exploded behind them, and most of the shadow creatures that had been behind them would have disintegrated, and hopefully the flash of light would leave enough of them stunned so the two could escape. ~~~~ Reni followed Penny and Claire, dashing about with his blade. He covered the sides, knocking away any that encroached upon their position too closely. If one happened to get too close, he borrowed Claire's shield, and blocked the attack. Reni flipped around to the other side of the party, and landed with a downward slice that destroyed another. There were an awful lot of them, and Reni had never been much of a fighter. An idea dawned on him though. He concentrated for a second, before creating an illusion of the three of them running in a different direction. He also created the sensory illusion of light in the center of them to simulate hearts. "I don't think that'll hold 'em for long, if at all, so we better get going. A bit faster maybe." Reni said, continuing to run.
Captain Arrowguns 466 Posted April 18, 2014 (edited) (Hello all. First of all, I would like to apologize for not putting as much effort into this RP as I feel I should. This RP's been rather slow lately, and I would like to try and bring a little more life to it.) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ct7eQqAhesU As Penny ran, she noticed that they were almost at the swamp. "Come on, we're getting close." she said, and charged ahead, happy for the magical assist by Reni. *** (I hope you don't hate me for this Javelin, but I think it's time to split up the Nightwing Squad.) [Woah, that's a pretty good idea.] Rain thought, and began copying Kiwi in sliding down the mountain back first. It wasn't very comfortable, but it was easier than running. The were getting close to the swamp now. Meanwhile, Sparrow, Hawk, and Raven were fighting through the horde of shadows side by side when suddenly a particularly massive shadow came charging at them. Hawk was able to jump out of the way in time, but Sparrow and Raven weren't so lucky. They were sent flying when the shadow hit them, a decent distance away from their comrades. *** "Wait, what is that?" Braxen said when he saw two objects flying towards them. "You foolish follower of darkness, those are people!" Max said, and using magic, jumped into the air and grabbed one of the soldiers (Sparrow) while Braxen, followed him and grabbed the other (Raven). After the two of them landed on the ground, they both put the soldiers down. "Are you two all right?" Max asked. "Yeah, if it wasn't for us, you'd both be pancakes right now." Braxen said, before noticing Max staring daggers at him, "Not that I'm bragging or nothing, of course." *** Quint's light grenade exploded, destroying all of the nearby Shadows. However, there was one figure still standing nearby, aside from Blight. He had a black keyblade in his hand, and was wearing a full suit of pitch black armor. But this wasn't ordinary keyblader armor, it looked more ancient, and more powerful. Surrounding him were the lifeless bodies of five keyblade wielders, both of light and dark. The figure turned towards them and Blight started shooting at him, certain that if he didn't, he and Quint would be his next targets. The figure disappeared in a flash of darkness and reappeared behind Blight. "You shot at me before you could tell if I was truly your enemy. For that you get no mercy." he said, as he lifted up Blight by the neck and began strangling him, all with one hand. He then turned towards Quint. "What will it be boy? Will you fight, or will you flee?" he asked. He then squeezed his hand, crushing Blight's neck before he had a chance to even react. The figure let go, and Blight's body crumpled to the floor. (And on that happy note, it's time for the first character choice of this RP. Yuffie has the choice of having Quint either run for his life, or try to avenge the death of Blight. No other character can intervene, this choice is for Quint and Quint alone. Which ever choice Quint makes will cause a different chain of events to occur.) Braxen said, before noticing Max staring daggers at him, "Not that I'm bragging or nothing, of course." [it's all good. The only problem is that now my posts are longer...] With Sparrow, Raven, and Hawk making good time as they continued sliding down the mountain, all three faithful keybladers were quickly and efficiently taking out any shadows that entered their sights. They were making good progress, that is until a shadow, much bigger than the ones they were currently encountering, decided to ruin their day. "Incoming!" Sparrow shouted, but the warning came too late for Raven as the dark creature rammed them both, sending the two careening away from Hawk who just barely managed to escape a similar fate. Upon hearing the distant cries of his friends, Kiwi looked up, and felt his heart sink as he saw his friends brutally torn apart from one another... [sparrow and Raven] The two teens were screaming family friendly profanity as they flew into the air, practically saying their prayers and kissing their life goodbye as they started falling back to the ground. At that moment, two strangers grabbed the flailing dual Guardsman and gently returned them to the ground below. "Are you two all right?" "Yeah, if it wasn't for us, you'd both be pancakes right now. Not that I'm bragging or nothing, of course." Both of the keybalders shook their heads and slowly got back up, trying to reestablish their bearings. "What... What just happened?" Sparrow asked. Raven was too dazed to form a proper response as he babbled quietly, then remained quiet as he stared into the distance. [Hawk] Hawk was struggling to maintain his sense of direction as he now tumbled down the mountain. The consequences of jumping while sliding down an incline finally catching up to the poor rifleman as he bounced practically from head to toe towards Kiwi and the others, yelling profanity of his own every time his body made a painful impact to the ground. After several grueling minutes, Hawk finally stopped tumbling as he crashed into Kiwi, too battered and dizzy to be of any use to the scout as he got back up and treid to pick up his best friend. "C'mon hawk!" Kiwi yelled, "I need you! help me out!"
