Kari Fair 9 Posted March 14, 2014 I don't know if there's already this topic but... So, does Kairi cares about Riku? Yeah, the destiny islands trio are best friends, but are Riku and Kairi best friends? It's pretty obvious that Riku cares about her (as we can see in KH1) but does Kairi cares about him? Like before the storm, she tells Sora that Riku has changed. She also says to leave the islands just the two of them, and then says "Sora, don't ever change.". Like... I felt awkward about Riku in that scene... Or in KH2; when she remembers Riku and the boy she can't remember, when she talks about Riku, who's the only person who she is really sure that existed, who's been disappeared for a year or more, who knows if he is in danger, she just says: "He's far away. But I know we'll see him again." even Selphie said she missed him. But when she talks about Sora, who in Kairi's mind could have or could have not existed as Riku, she seems more concerned about him than Riku. It's kinda unfair, I guess. Maybe I'm just overreacting but I never seen Kairi worry about Riku. What do you guys think? (sorry if I have some mistakes. Dave 5,715 Posted March 14, 2014 Well, in fairness, they haven't really had much screen time together, given that Kairi spent nearly all of KH1 in a coma, and then KH2 was absent a good deal. The line about Riku having changed sort of forebodes the idea that Riku's sense of caring has become borderline obsession, and that Kairi senses that something is up with his behaviour. It's also a fair bet that she feels more close to Sora, who, in my personal opinion, treats her more like a friend than Riku, who kind of puts her on a pedestal, ironically making himself more distant by being so obsessive. 2 Reyn and Zola reacted to this Quote Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

Plus, Riku more or less let Sora have Kairi when they closed the door to darkness and he said "Take Care of her." Dio Brando 5,810 Posted March 14, 2014 the relationship between Sora,Riku and Kairi is kinda similar to Cecil,Rosa and Kain from Final Fantasy IV They were childhood friends,Sora and Riku had some sort of rivalry similar to Cecil and Kain,Riku has a crush on Kairi(Sora's love) just like how Kain has a crush on Rosa,Riku betrays Sora just like how Kain betrayed Cecil,both Riku and Kain went on a path of redemption to an extent. Really it would have been used for a dramatic response from the audience like OMG THEY'RE GONNA RUN AWAY WITHOUT HIM- no I think they're friends just fine, she's optimistic about seeing him which is better than "oh who cares I want my Sora" to spill from her lips, she stopped Sora from attacking him when she could see him true self. The scene in KH1 was probably a joke [possibly flirty, I haven't reached that part in my textbooks yet], and honestly I interpreted it as more to do with Riku backstory than her thoughts on him. KH2, that gets a little more complicated. I interpreted it as this: she vaguely remembers Sora, and wants to remember this entity. She already knows Riku exists, is [for the most part] safe, and will eventually return, but wants to remember Sora [whom she forgot] more because... Well you know how bad you would feel if you suddenly remember a long time friend that you suddenly drop connections with because of school/moving out/other major life event/etc? It would be that kind of nagging feeling of "How could you?! How could you be such a cruel, heartless [see wat I did thar?] person to forget your friends?!?!?! You're a jerk!" sorta feeling. She knows that there is someone other than Riku who were friends with them, and feels obligated to try and remember him.
