It's not hinted Aqua escaped the Realm of Darkness at all. Nomura stated that the first KH3 trailer shown has nothing to do with the story one bit, and that she still needs saving.

 

Also, Yen Sid has already said that he's going to train Kairi...sooo...yeah. There's that as well.

That would be a giagantic personality shift that wouldn't make a single ounce of sense. Now if Lightning said "You remind me of Serah" I MIGHT be able to see it, but as Serah and Kairi are still completely different it's a stretch.

 

Personally, I'd rather Lightning show up and kick ass alongside Kairi and Serah then anything else.

But seriously if Lightning was to be in KH, I'd put her in the Realm of Darkness with Aqua because of the similarities between the Unseen Realm and the Realm of Darkness. So Lightning would be someone Aqua met in the Realm of Darkness who's also trying to leave to complete the task of the Goddess or something like that...I  know it won't happen tho...

Yen Sid's training Kairi.  Afterwards when Aqua is saved I would expect her to "take her under her wing" as her master.  

 

Kairi also has her own personality.  She wasn't created to be a void to fill with other characters personality that rev up the fandom.  

 

I personally don't care to actually see Lightning.

Mainly because I think she's being over-saturated in the market right now, and doesn't really need any extra appearances. Also, I think the presence of both Leon and Cloud already has the hard-nose grump level of FF cameos at a maximum level.

I don't think that the training or getting Lightning's personality thing will happen, but I'd like Lightning to tell Kairi "You remind me of Serah." That line seems the right thing to say if they would meet and work together after a while.
