Cosplaying as Kairi from KH 2!

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

Next weekend I am cosplaying as Kairi from Kingdom Hearts 2. I'm not sure if this an issue or just a cry for encouragement. I copslayed as her last year but the hair spray went everywhere and I am reluctant to use it again. I tried a wig on but it didn't fit properly and it was too short. The problem being that my hair is long, thick and brown. More a medium sort of brown. So since I can't wear wigs and hair spray too much hassle I'm not really sure. I mean I could always tuck my hair into the back of my dress and pull some of it forward but it isn't the right shape and all of that. I really don't want to wear contacts because I already have beautiful hazel eyes and I think my friend wouldn't recongize after dying my hair and getting contacts.

So, I do have the correct dress and shoes. I actually got these proably lot cheaper because they weren't the offical ones. But I'm still pretty happy with them. I'm quite skinny and white so I guess the costume work well but the hair is still stressing me out a little.

Picture this. You go to a anime convention and you see a girl who fits my description cosplaying as Kairi. Her hair is not the correct colour, or length or anything. What do you automically think? I know this sounds really self concious but I just thought it would be nice to know what people might think and if anyone had any advice for a nervous yet excited cosplayer.

Here is a picture of me with my hair down so you know what I look like:

Need some advice . Please get back to me soon.

Thanks.

Sincerely,

Princess Kairi

Cosplaying is costume play, just saying, they're not really meant to recognize you they should recognize the character so you shouldn't let that stop you.  You can show off your beautiful hazel eyes any day but contacts also have the ability to make your eyes look bigger and more anime like.  If you don't want to use contacts because you don't like contacts in your eyes you could use make up to make they appear bigger.  Plenty of people have cosplayed without them.

I think the length of the hair could be fine since plenty of people just colour their natural hair.  You could also get layers and pin the long ones under and keep the short ones out.  Since your hair is lighter than mine, I would personally get a temporary dye in it that washes out if it was me.  The "Crazy Colour" brand is meant to wash out quickly.

Hey as long as you have fun, that's all that matters. But as a wig-loving person myself, I always go with wigs, hehe (just as an excuse to buy more! ♥︎). I personally wouldn't think anything except "Omg a Kairi!!!", but there are some rude, snobby people at cons, just as there are generally everywhere. One year I was cosplaying as Dave Strider and some creepy ass guy asked why my wig was white. When he left, some nice girls sitting at the table across from me were saying "Ugh, I hate that. Don't pay attention to him."

Then last year these two equally annoying and...didn't seem right.. people said something and I was like "kay. I still look more fab than u anyways so hasta la pasta"

Bottom line is so long as you're having fun and you feel beautiful, it really doesn't matter what your cosplay looks like. You could brush your bangs to the side and colour your hair with some temporary stuff like sprays, hairchalk, etc. - I'm going to test out some temporary hair methods myself, so I'll let you know what works the best!

Honestly, most DECENT human beings won't be silently judging you or anything at all. There are just some people that will be dicks no matter how you look, so ignore them and rock your hair anyways. Even if someone has the most perfect and amazing costume there will always be weirdos who say something.

Just have fun! :3

If it were me and I wasn't entering any sort of costume contest, i'd say that the eye color and having the perfect hair isn't really all that important if it's especially bothersome to you. Keep your eyes and do whatever you want with your hair. Having fun is the important part, really.

Oh yeah, I forgot to comment on the contact thing. I'm not allowed to wear any sort of contacts yet (darn you, eye doctor!) but please remember that if you are considering CIRCLE LENSES they are serious, you have to talk about putting any sort of thing in your eyes with a doctor first. Especially circle lenses, they're not yet legal in many places which is why those who want them and don't live in Korea order online.

Contacts surely are a cosplayer enhancement, but they're just eyes...I wouldn't worry about it much. People who use them just like to because it's a little extra thing - but please don't feel like you have to get contacts. Wigs are one thing but you do need to be careful with contacts, for your own safety, especially if you've never worn them before. Even people who go to photoshoots will sometimes avoid contacts for whatever their personal reason may be :D I rub my eyes a lot so contacts would just..yeah that wouldn't go out well for me.

I know I may sound too neurotic about the contacts and eyes thing, but we gotta protect our eyes, y'know?

Point is, don't feel like you HAVE to do anything. It's cosplay, it's for fun, so do what you're comfortable with :D

I wouldn't think you were the best cosplayer in the world, but that's not what you're going for is it?  I also wouldn't think you're bad either.  Go through all your options and go with what works best for you.
