I would agree, just that a lot of their actions (while they can be seen as "romantic" steps or hints depending on what the player personally wants to read into it) can be seen as just friendly activities. So until there are some stronger hints, it's pretty much just pairing two opposite sex genders in a trio, which typically always is the male lead and the only female.
