I understand that you don't want kids--and that's fine, I don't either--but that's seriously no reason to make other people sound like monsters just because they do. A lot of people really want to be parents, and for some it's their main aspiration in life. Plenty of future parents would adopt too. If we all just stopped having kids (which is sounds like you're suggesting?) then we'd all basically die out, and a lot of people would live very sad lives because being a parent is their dream. You also basically said anyone who has children is wasting their life and unintelligent. My career is more important to me than starting a family, but it's not that way for everyone. Some people feel their purpose in life is to raise children, and accusing them of wasting their life is actually pretty mean, along with calling them unintelligent. My mom got a four-year degree in both biology and business, but she gave up her career when she had children, even though she's a very smart lady, because her children were more important to her than a job. She felt happiest with her kids, and imo there's nothing wrong with doing what makes you happy, even if it's not the same choice we would make. 4 Tigerruss, Shana09, Queen Tery and 1 other reacted to this

Dave 5,715 Posted January 21, 2014 I don't immediately plan on having children, mainly because I don't have the patience it takes to raise a child (at least, not at this moment in my life), and I don't think it's fair to either the child or parent if the latter is not mentally prepared to dedicate themselves whole heartedly to their family. That being said, I have an infinite amount of respect for the people who well and truly love their children, and will do their best to raise them properly. 1 Lalalablah reacted to this
Tigerruss 576 Posted January 21, 2014 Do:I simply want to know what my children if I had them would be like. And this is the only way to find it out.I don't think a family feels complete without children of some sort. If I didn't have kids, and didn't choose to adopt, I would have to find people to mentor. It would be nice to have some people from the next generation to help keep me up to date with the world!SO when/if I get one wants them. Don't:I don't want any kids right now, I don't feel ready for them. They'd drain my income.Sometimes I try to act too perfect when I am an authority figure, and it would be a pain to try to act perfect all the time at home.SO when/if I get one doesn't want them.Overall I probably will want to have kids eventually, but I hardly consider myself an adult as it is, let alone parent material. 1 Lalalablah reacted to this

Cucco 1,907 Posted January 21, 2014 I'm mixed. I want someone to carry on my bloodline and last name, since my second cousin is the only male in my family of my generation with my last name, and his parents get into lots of legal trouble, so I don't want to rely on that kid to do it. On the other hand, raising a kid is a pain in the ass and is something you have to devote a shitton of time to. I kind of would kind of like to adopt since having a kid could add to the over population thing and i could give a kid a good home, but again, the bloodline thing. CloakedSchemerX 1,011 Posted January 21, 2014 I really want kids— truly, but I do feel like I'll disappoint myself. My expectations for my future child are not nearly decided, and so I mean the expectations of how I raise him or her. While I would love to have either, or both, I'm hoping for a son when I'm.older. Having no brothers and three sisters may be a reason for that, I've always wanted one, so a son might be even better. That, and I already have my favorite boy name in mind (I better be the one deciding on the name, or a mutual agreement for that I mean seriously). Anyway, I feel as if I might disappoint myself with a child. I dearly want to raise him or her 'right,' basically how I consider the opposite of most kids I'm surrounded by everyday. I just feel like I might not raise them right, ir that he/she just might not listen to me, perhaps even bad influences around. I guess it's an insecurity or fear of mine. Nevertheless, I have plenty of time before I get to that point. 1 Lalalablah reacted to this
RikuFangirl2008 1,368 Posted January 21, 2014 Not gonna lie, the bolded part made me laugh. "Sassy mouth". ...What happened with the first one? Yeah shes only 13 thinking she's "grown" which mean she would just be disrespect and talk smart to my mom when things don't go her way. I love her as a sister, but she really ticks me off with her attitude... Its a long story... It was long distance, interracial, and communication was really hard... We try at least to make it work but it got complicated... He hasn't talk to me about our relationship and it ended without having a talk about it... I learned from it that he doesn't have the type of freedom that I have being on the internet... And his parents are--lets just say that they don't like my race... That's what I mostly believe of why its so complicated with communicating with him through the internet instead of his phone... He can't call me all the time; that's is what I heard from a friend of mine...

DragonMaster 1,166 Posted January 21, 2014 (edited) Oooh, I actually have a giant paragraph for this typed out on my journal thing I keep. I had to edit out the cursing, but here: *prepares flame shield just in case* I've never liked kids, nor wanted any of my own (in the future, of course). Think about it, they start off as parasites feeding off of their mother's body, making them (and by extension, everyone around them) miserable. Then after they are born (which is, by the way, one of the greatest pains that humans can experience) they continue to be parasites until they leave you, or you cut them off, or they kill you. You devote the best years of your life to the ingrates, and even then they're ungrateful little [jerks]. No matter how well you raise them, there's still the chance that they will end up as utter disappointments. You can spend hundreds of thousands of dollars on them, and they might end up as completely useless to society. Sometimes they'll even have the audacity to say you ruined their lives (though, in their defense, you probably did, and even if you didn't, you're the reason they have a life to be ruined). Sometimes they get so caught up in the angst, hormones, depression, or whatever other excuse they have, that they pump their bodies full of poison that some wannabe chemist crack-head made in their basement, and then the little [idiots] end up dying on you. Plus, they're annoying as hell when they're younger, having all sorts of irritating mannerisms. Like the fact that they're manipulative little trolls who only give a [dang] about themselves. And they are not cute, and they never were. Especially babies. Yeah I said it, sorry to break it to you. Babies all look the same, really freaking ugly. No exceptions, none. No, your little Johnny isn't the most adorable thing ever, and no little Suzy isn't an angel. Johnny and Suzy are both pink little flesh sacks that only serve to make high pitched wailing sounds and ungodly smells. They are about as cute as a naked mole rat. In fact, that's quite a good comparison, as babies actually look quite similar to naked mole rats. If it makes you feel any better, it's not your fault you somehow like the hideous little creatures. Let's face it, if our minds didn't trick us into believing that we liked the little imps, it wouldn't be good for the continued survival of the species. I, however, am not letting my mind pull one over on me. Nope. Then there is the most disgusting factor of all, they're almost literally made of you, on a few different levels (no further explanation needed, or at least I hope). Just thinking about that fact gives me a sick feeling in the pit of my stomach. All this, for the mere chance that they turn out to be good people. I cannot even fathom how that is anywhere near worth it. No, pets are the way to go. I much prefer dogs to children. They have emotional capacity that humans are very perceptive of. In addition, dogs are probably more intelligent than your little two year old, and listen far better than your thirteen year old brat. And dogs are actually cute. TL;DR They aren't cute, they aren't worth the trouble, they're annoying, and I feel physically ill thinking about what it means to have a child who is your own (as in, you are the actual parent). EDIT: Oh, and after reading through this thread, I have some more to add. 1) I do not care at all about continuing the bloodline or the family name. I didn't even think of that as a reason until reading through here. 2) I actually have no plans and few aspirations, if any at all. I just don't like kids. 3) I would like to get married. Hopefully to someone who also doesn't want kids. 4) If I were to adopt, I'd adopt a teenager, since they can at least take care of themselves. 5) No way would I want a boy. I don't want a girl either, but rather a daughter than a son. 6) I'd be the kind of dad to just let the baby cry during the night, or let them crawl around and hit their heads on tables. 7) I don't think it would be fun to raise a kid, or really an experience worth having, unless they ended up being the most awesome kid ever. 8) I just really don't like them. 9) More than one is too many. If my wife really wanted a kid, and I really loved her, she might convince me to have one. No way any more than that. 10) I'd rather have fun in life as an adult rather than worry about a kid messing up theirs. Alicia Maddox 2,141 Posted January 24, 2014 It's hard for me to say in so many words why I don't want any children.I'll make this as short as I can.Don't get me wrong, I love being around children. I was a child care worker for over a year before I went off to college. I love playing with them, and having fun, but that's about it. As a child care worker, I got to see a little of what it takes, and all that it means to be a parent. It was then that I realized that I'm simply not responsible enough to take on the task of raising kids. I'm also not a good teacher, nor do I have the patients to deal with them all day. There are also (at least for me) to many risks involved in the whole business for it to be worth it. There is no guarantee that your kids will turn out the way you had raised them. By that, I mean that you don't know if one day you turn on the T.V., and see your kid on the evening news, when you spent 18+ years of your life trying to raise your kid right. I for one don't need children to carry on my legacy. You don't really need them. Your legacy is who, and what you leave behind. The people that you have touched, or influenced. The mark that you have left behind on your hometown, or the world. If you have lived an inspiring life, or any good life, then you have already left your legacy. My mother thinks that I'm still too young to make this decision to not have kids, but at 23 years old, I think I'm old enough to decide what I want in life now.OK, shutting up now. 1 MyDixieRect reacted to this
