I'm sorry to say, but it's very, very unlikely it will come to the original DS. The 3DS is said to be able to hold 2gb in one cart when it launches, the original DS can only hold 250 mb at maximum if I recall right. It would not have the space, or graphical power to hold this game, even if were to be cut down it still probably wouldn't be able to fit onto the DS.

As for if it can be played on the original DS, the plain and simple answer is no. That's like asking can the GBA can play DS games, it's physically impossible. Not to mention if Nomura planned to make it on the original DS aswell as the 3DS he probably would've announced it for both platforms at E3 and not just one.

You never know, but probably not.

Then again, wasn't it said that the 3DS would have a switch that could make a game less 3D and if one wanted, actually 2D like the DS now. So if the 3DS game cartrige is the same size as the DS one, would the DS be able to play 3DS games, just without as good graphics? Then again, I have no idea what a 3DS game cartrige looks like, so I'm just throwing it out there.

I do recall reading an article on engadget that the 3DS would be up to par with the Wii in graphics. That was just a wide-spread rumor before E3 though. However, based on the videos I've seen I would say the rumor is somewhat true and that the 3DS is almost as powerful as the graphics engine on the Wii. So to sum it all up for you, there is no way Kingdom Hearts 3D can be played on the original DS. If you haven't noticed, Square Enix tends to bring out the best graphics out of every console and handheld like with what they did with 358/2 Days on the DS. I'm sure they'd want to use every bit of graphics power on the 3DS to make Kingdom Hearts 3D a great game.

Here is what the catridge looks like: http://www.engadget.com/2010/06/18/nintendo-3ds-game-cart-pictured-wireless-ebook-reader-on-tap/

The only differences it has from the DS cartridge is that it's slimmer and it has a small extra tab on the top right corner. Also the 3DS slot is compatible with DS cartridges so you will be able to play DS games on the 3DS.
