Keimei looked around at the crowd in the center plaza of the Starting Town. "Why was I just taken here...?" She asked aloud. She'd only been playing for a couple hours, and had decided to get into the combat system before finding anyone to team up with. She looked around the crowd, noticing a lot of other people were also teleporting there. Suddenly, the sky above her turned blood red. A cloaked figure appeared over the square, and hovered there.

"Hello everyone, and welcome to SAO." A voice boomed over the crowd. "You're likely wondering who I am... My true identity will remain secret. However, I will tell you this; I have hacked into SAO. Some of you may have noticed that there isn't a log-out button... That's because I've removed the option to log out. I've trapped you all in the game..." He paused, as the crowd was dead silent. He eventually continued. "Why have I done this? Simple. I've wanted a world of my liking. In this world, I've surpassed even the game's creator, Kayaba Akihiko. Here, I control you all... Unless, of course, you can clear all 100 floors. However, that's impossible..." He cackled. "Also, to warn you... If you die in the world of SAO, the NerveGear will fry your brain in the real world, killing you in both. If anyone attempts to remove your NerveGear, you will also die. Now then, before I leave, I have a gift for you..." Suddenly, a mirror appeared in Keimei's inventory. She used it, out of curiosity. There was a sudden flash of light, and she shut her eyes...

When she opened her eyes, she felt different. She looked into the mirror... That's... my real face in the mirror... She looked in horror. Aside from her hair color, which was the same shade of red that she'd made it in-game, she looked exactly like she did in real life.

"Now then... With this, I must leave. Good luck in Aincrad... You'll need it." A maniacal laughter echoed along the buildings, as the figure disappeared.

After the echoes, there was silence. After what felt like ages, people began rioting. "We're doomed!" "I can't be trapped in the game, I've got a meeting in an hour!" "That had to all be some sick joke!" Keimei looked around in confusion. She didn't know what to do. She looked around frantically.

I have to get out... The only way to do that is to fight, and I'll need partners... Man, I really wish my friends had been able to get the game so I wouldn't be alone in this. She dashed through town, weaving her way through the crowd and into the streets. She tried to look around for someone, anyone who was also rushing to go fight.

Sikiro looked up at sighed. What an interesting announcement. SAO, the biggest, most monumental release in VR history is also the first to be hacked and turned from what could have been the turning-point for gaming, into a Death Game. Sikiro rubbed his forehead, a little annoyed. How did this hacker feel? Satisfied? Obviously arrogant--only a fool would try something so big. And succeed.

"Fine then." Sikiro said, "I will play this game." He said this, as if anyone was listening. Naturally, no one was. Sikiro began walking past the screaming crowd -nearly 10,000 players all running for who-knows-where- and into an alley. He paused, looking for someone, anyone, who could prove to be interesting enough to join up with.

Achi was still looking up at the sky in disbelief. He never thought that something like this was even possible, but sure enough, it was. He knew one thing, and one thing only...He needed a few friends to help him. However, he literally knew no one else here, and the friend that he was promised would meet up with him got sick. He had no idea what to do. He wandered away from the crowd, thinking as he started walking like he often does in real life. He eventually sat himself down at a bench to continue thinking about this.

Aether looked around. Many were panicing.

Hours in, and already hell broke loose.

Aether ran. She was past the alleyways and off. With practiced ease she weaved out of town. Her starting blade felt heavier now.

Why did she want to go? Why?

Fear? A new place?

To others, maybe those. To Aether...

She just wanted to go back to work at the maid cafe. She loved it there.

The ex-Beta Tester saw some boars charging. With an eerie calm she drew her blade and waited.

Now.

She slashed the boar in half, spinning. Another one fell.

Aether kept running. She didn't look back to see if anyone else had done the same; she ran.

Ryonne stuck his sword into a training dummy, and left it there. He wasn't happy. Stuck here for god knows how long. Possibly forever. He refused to look at the mirror he had tossed to the ground after receiving it. His life had been good, fantastic even. Why had he chosen to go into virtual reality? To have a bit of fun. Thrill-seeking had been his goal. Well, that objective had certainly been met. "I have to get out." He muttered to himself. Gritting his teeth, he grasped his sword once again, and ripped it out. Straw went flying. The swordsman stuck his blade back into the sheath he had for it, picked the mirror back up, and started walking. He was going to escape. He had to.

~~~~~~~~~~~~
Mes snarled up at the sky. Of course, no one was there anymore, but that didn't matter. She could hate the air until she died, and no one could do anything about it. Mes glared at the clouds, as if they had something to do with this. Of course they didn't. They were virtual. Just like her now. Mes took a deep breath, and felt for her rapier's hilt. Just it being in her possession seemed to give her more strength. Still angry, she turned away, and started walking. She didn't know where she was going to go. Mes only knew that she needed to go somewhere.
Lock knew he didn't have many strengths, but keeping his cool in tight situations was one of them... usually. But when he looked in the mirror, and saw he looked exactly like he did in real life, he lost it. He looked the same as before, except that his hair and skin were completely pale, and his eyes were a foggy blue. As this madman spoke about hacking and permanent death in the game, he was able to keep his cool. But losing his in game appearance, the one thing that made him seem and even feel normal in the eyes of others in the in game world around him, caused him to panic and brake into a run. He wasn't even sure where he was running to, but at the moment he didn't care. He just couldn't let people see him like this. After all, it was his albinism that caused every bully at his old school to taunt him and beat him up. He needed to get away and find something to cover his face.
But as he tried to process what had just happened, he ran headlong into a random girl who looked to be roughly his age (Keimei), causing the both of them to topple over.
"Ugh, sorry about that." Lock said, getting back to his feet and extending his hand to the girl he'd just knocked over in order to help her up, "You all right?"
Keimei suddenly felt something knock her over. When she looked up, she saw a boy about her age trying to help her up. "Yeah..." She took his hand and stood up. "Thanks... It's fine." She realized this would be a perfect opportunity to team up with someone. She'd been planning to start a guild after all, looks like she had her chance. "Oh, call me Keimei. Nice to meet you!" She grinned, hoping to lighten up the mood. It was tough to do so after the whole event at the central plaza, but she managed. "Want to team up? I think this would be a lot easier if we had more people to help."
Abisk Was running. He had only just signed in as the event started. "A real adventure, too bad it's a deadly one..." Abisk thought. He was smart about it: Being a Beta Tester, he knew he had to get to the next town over before everything was gone. In his sheath, a simple Schimitar, and a simple two-sided blade. He wasn't too sure of what weapon type to use, each had an advantage to it, but it could be that their weaknesses outweighed each-other's strengths, he wasn't watching where he was running, and tripped and fell on two players who were talking (Keimei and Lock). "Ouch..." He muttered, looking around. "Sorry about that. Just trying to head to the next-town over and get supplies." He said. "I would advise you two to go as well, but it's dangerous, unless you know your way around." He said, looking at the two he had just toppled by accident.
Sikiro sighed. No one had come.
"Well then." He said, walking out of the alleyway. Perhaps the alley was not the best place to be when it came to waiting for people. He turned, immediately running for the exit of the town. He would find someone, at some point. Sikiro never really liked people, but he knew that if he wished to live, then finding someone to team up with would likely enhance his chances of living.
Keimei stood back up. Well, I guess I could say that I keep getting hit by good opportunities... (I'm sorry I can't resist puns) She thought to herself, and looked over at the guy who had just run into her. "It's fine." She smiled, letting him know she didn't hold anything against him. "Hey... You seem to know your way around the game. Why not partner up with us for a little bit? The more people, the safer we'll be, right?" She asked, hoping she could convince the two to join her. She didn't want to have to go solo, and these two looked like promising companions.
He started looking around frantically. This....This can't be real right, seriously, the authorities have got to be able to do SOMETHING, RIGHT? He walked through the crowd looking around. I really need some partners, if thats the case. I have to stay calm, i can live through this, i've played through many RPG's before, im a decent gamer, i can get through this.
"HEY ANYONE, WANNA BE IN A PARTNER WITH ME?" He looked around and saw Keimei in the ground. "Hey there! I can please be in a party with you?"
Finally.
Aether stepped into the next town. Based on her beta experience, the baker would give her some X.P and cooking lessons if she delivered some things. The woman at the tavern needed help finding her stolen brooch, and a man needed a letter given to a lover.
Easy pickings.
Checking her sword, Aether slipped into the Bakery.
"Hey! Perfect timing lass. Could you spare a moment?"
Smiling to herself, Aether said "of course."
"We need to hurry. The best quests will be snatched up by other Beta Tester's soon. I know of a really good quest, it's tough even at level ten, but as a Level One in a group I know how to beat it, everyone involved gets 500 Gil and a few medium-sized rolls." Abisk said, looking around. "But we gotta be fast as fast as possible. Only one team gets the quest." He said. "Only I, and one other Beta Tester know of it's existence, but he's not on right now, I would know if he were." Abisk told the group.
( X.P without the peeiod is a smiley. I forgot Dx thanks for pointing it out.)Bakery and woman quests done, Aether handed the letter over. She watched as she got halfway to level three. Excellent.Hurrying to the tavern, she searched for hard quests. She needed to get up until she learned battle-healing.Level twenty. She could do it. Fifty levels after and her healing would be ridiculous. Until then...drops...what was....right! She remembered a quest that dropped a decent straight sword. Clear some wolves from the farm to the east then report it to the head guard. Easy.Buying some health potions, Aether hurried off. The guard was usually at his post around now. The wolves attacked at night.She could do it.She had to.
"OK!" He yelled, starting to run as fast as he could. "I hope we can clear the boss, though, I mean, if we find some of that metal as a drop from that one enemy, I can forge better equipment for us, or at least for the person with the lowest stats to compensate" He thought, leading the way, they encountered a few boars and wolves, nothing too dangerous to fight, but certainly a threat. When a pack of wolves encountered the group, though, Abisk decided to teach the team about "Switching". "Okay, guy's. Find a team mate, and stick with them. It's time to teach you all how to Switch." He said, looking at Kei. "Be my partner?" he asked.
(Wow, I didn't expect things to pick up so quickly.)
"All right, I'll go with you guys." Lock finally answered. He would've answered sooner, but he was caught off guard by the two newcomers and the chance an an impressive quest. He was surprised that nobody seemed to notice his odd complexion yet, but that was okay. Maybe they were just more mature than he expected. "I'm Lock, by the way. I wasn't a beta tester, but I know a thing or two about wielding weapons, especially melee ones. It's kind of a hobby of mine in the real world. If any of you need tips on how to use a sword, spear, ax, or hammer, I'm your guy."
