Hey guys, it's been a while since I posted something on here, hasn't it? Well, since I'm on vacation, I decided to write a new story The beginning of it is below. I hope you enjoy it and look forward to more. Above all, HAPPY 2014! You'll see lots of stories coming from me during it, I hope!

 

Chapter 0.1 - A Tragic turn of events 

 

It was just another common and usual day in Tijuca, a neighborhood located in Rio de Janeiro, one of Brazil’s states. Jeane was a small, beautiful woman, who had straight black hair and blue eyes. She was 38 years old, and had  a son, named James. He was a 12 years old boy, with the same straight black hair and blue eyes from his mother. The difference was that his eyes were shining with the dreams of a better tomorrow, while his mother’s looked sad and without hope.

They lived in a simple building in that neighborhood. It was on the 24^th of May, five days before James’ thirteenth birthday that something terrible happened. Jeane came home seriously wounded, and did not explain what had happened to her–she simply gave something you’d never expect receiving in a situation like that—it was a green ring, made of what seemed like diamond.

 

 

“I don’t have the strength to tell you anything, my dear son… Please… keep it safe…. Until the time comes…. He’ll come when the time is right…” said Jeane, trying to use the last of her strength while resisting the countless wounds she had suffered minutes ago.

“What? Forget that thing!” he said, as he threw it in the direction of his mother’s bed. “We have to take you to a doctor, immediately! You can’t leave me alone, mom!” he said, as tears fell from his blue eyes, which were different from usual; no longer shining.

“I’m sorry… I… No doctor can heal… Keep the ring safe… promise… me” she said with a weak voice.

“If you insist, I promise I’ll keep it safe, but don’t worry about that right now! You’re injured! We have to do something!!!” he screamed, trying to catch the neighbors’ attention.

“It’s no use… Farewell, my beloved son… Maybe someday we’ll meet again… until then… protect it” she said, before looking one last time to her son, and finally closing her eyes permanently.

“Mom!!! MOMMMMMMMMMM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!” he screamed in agony, while deep down, he knew nothing could be done to save his beloved mother.

 

  Jeane left this world without telling her son what had been the reason for her death. This was the worst part for little James, who stayed days crying in his room, while the green ring lies there, on the bed, forgotten. Nothing really mattered anymore for him; it was as if someone had taken something inside his heart. His shining eyes would never shine as they did before.

 

 

  There was nothing that could be done to end James’ pain. Not even time would heal it, since time actually doesn’t heal anything, it just gives us other things to think about instead of those who are no longer with us. Of course he’d never forget his beloved mother, but his life had to move on.

 

 

  In response to Jeane’s personal request, Dinna, a 42 years old blonde woman, with curly hair and brown eyes, decided to take care of James after his mother passed away. Four days had passed since that tragic event, and James still wouldn’t eat or talk more than three words a day with Dinna (“hey” “thanks” “bye”). But that was totally understandable. Dinna lost her mother when she was 29 years old, and acted just like James; shut herself in her room, cried for a long time and didn’t talk much.

 

 It was finally May 29^th, James’ thirteenth birthday. Was it really that day? It didn’t matter to James. Nothing mattered anymore. Knowing how painful had been those days for him, Dinna ordered a special cake and bought a few gifts for him. She wasn’t rich, but she could not afford to see him like that anymore. So, at 7pm of that day, when he came asking if there was anything to eat, she jumped and screamed “HAPPY BIRTHDAY, DARLING”.

“What? It is—already my birthday?” he said, still with a sad tone.

“Yeaaah! I bought a lot of presents just for you! Open! Open! Open!” she screamed, clearly trying to cheer James up.

“Ehh… okay.” James replied, trying to be educated.

 

 So he started opening them. There were 7 presents in total. A PS Vita, two games for that handheld, a new T-Shirt, in which was written the words “Never GIVE UP” in a mix of blue and yellow, a new pair of sneakers, something that James was actually truly needing since his were already one year old, a lot of candies, including chocolate bars, and the last, but surely the most special, a T-Shirt with the picture of James and Jeane. How Dinna got a hold of that picture was unknown to James, but it did not matter. This was the best present someone could give him in a time like this.

 

 

  Despite everything that had happened, this was a very happy birthday for James. He realized that Dinna really loved him, maybe even like her own son, and that his mother would always be close to him, in his memories of her smiling and hugging him, just like in the picture Dinna put on the T-Shirt.“Delicious, isn’t it? I ordered it yesterday. Didn’t know it was THIS good, though!” said Dinna, while she started eating the special cake she had bought for James’ birthday.

“Yeah… it’s awesome.” replied James, still with a sad tone, but with somewhat that resembled a smile on his face.

“What do you want to do now? Hmmmm what do you think of playing these games I gave you?” said Dinna, still trying to cheer James up.

“Tomorrow we play, okay? All I need now is to rest a little… But I really have to thank you for all of this… You really helped me see that not everything is lost, and that I have to keep living, even though my mom is no longer physically with me, she’ll always be by my side, in spirit.” said James, attempting to make Dinna feel good for all she had done and also showing his gratitude for her.

“Okay! No thanks necessary, though. Now that we’re gonna live together, we’ll be happy, I promise you!” replied Dinna, with a very happy tone, which made James give a true smile this time.

 

  Once the conversation was over, James went back to his room, intending to sleep. He had a dream of him and his mother. Both of them were eating candies and singing birthday songs. Then his mother suddenly vanished, and Dinna, who started singing birthday songs as well, appeared in her place. He woke up frightened. What did that dream mean? He wasn’t replacing his mother with Dinna. He could never do that. But stranger than the dream was the fact that he heard a voice, but surely knew it wasn’t Dinna’s.

 

“Don’t worry… It’s almost time… All will be revealed..” said the voice mysteriously.

 James checked to see if he was still dreaming, but found out that the voice came from the green ring, which was now shining beautifully. He had completely forgotten about it. But he could no longer do that. After all, he promised his mother he would keep it safe. So he wore it on his right hand, and decided to go back to sleep. The ring kept shining even though the voice could no longer be heard.
