FINAL FANTASY ports/remakes/remasters nearly finished!

With the release of FINAL FANTASY IV: The After Years on iOS/Android and FINAL FANTASY VIII released digitally on PC, Square Enix's nearly got every major FINAL FANTASY game on modern hardware.

 

What's left?

 

FINAL FANTASY VI for iOS/Android

Confirmed to be released in the next couple of months.

 

FINAL FANTASY IX for PC

Not confirmed yet, and would take longer since it was never released on PC but it makes so much sense to release it on PC.

 

FINAL FANTASY XII HD Remaster

Only hinted at in interviews at this stage, but makes perfect sense after X/X-2 HD Remaster. XII remastered in HD (includes International content) and would be nice to have Revenant Wings covered as cutscenes like they do in the Kingdom Hearts HD Collections. A cutscene like they have done for X/X-2 HD Remaster to conclude it would be very cool.

 

FINAL FANTASY XIII released digitally

May as well, need them all available digitally.

 

FINAL FANTASY VII: The Complete Collection

Only rumours at this stage for a PS4 remake of VII. But this would be awesome and make perfect sense.

FINAL FANTASY VII remade for PlayStation 4, includes HD remasters of Crisis Core and Dirge of Cerberus.

 

Let's hope they get it done.

Right now I'm able to get every single Final Fantasy game on some system or another on a relatively modern system. I'm able to get VI-IX all digitally, there's an HD remaster of X and X-2 coming, I-V are all available physically with the PSP and DS stuff... all of this, except for, like you said, XI and XII. Put XI on Steam, and give us an HD remaster of XII and we're set.

Bah. I wish the Vita hadn't come out yet so I could complete my classic FF series on the PSP. I even made a custom box for FFIII since it NEVER CAME OUT PHYSICALLY IN THE US.

It's only the Playstation 1 version because that's the only version there is. The DS isn't dead as long as the 3DS has backwards compatability, and I'm still not convinced that phones count as legitimate game consoles. I'm not sure of it, but I also think that the PSP versions of the Final Fantasies are on the store? I swear I remember seeing the IV collection on there at least, and as long as they're on the store, that means they can be played with a PSVita, a current generation system. Sooo...

You'd have to be lucky. Can't purchase any FINAL FANTASY games on DS or PSP brand new in Australia. Just pre-owned and that's because those consoles are dead.

 

iOS/Android versions are superior to the DS and PSP versions.

If FFXV has a good reception I wouldn't be surprised if they remade FFVII with the battle system from XV.

He means for the PSP. And to be honest, until it's PSP release in 2012 it was never available on a PlayStation console.

No, that would require a HD remaster of the PS2 version. Simply not worth the effort. I was stating it should be released on Square Enix's Online Store and Xbox Live's Marketplace so people can purchase the game digitally there.

Update: FINAL FANTASY XI is in fact available digitally on both Square Enix's Online Store and Steam. One less thing to worry about.

 

Square Enix should really release XIII digitally though, it's not hard.
