The 7th Generation's Death?

Recommended Posts

360 will die pretty quick. Microsoft has already transitioned their entire focus over to the Xbox One. Sony still has over 100 games coming out on PS3 next year, some of which are fairly big names. Both have guaranteed support until 2015 though, so at least a few more years.

Western developed games are most likely done on PS3/360 (outside of some junky ports or Indies); Japanese development for the PS3 is still possible seeing as how the PS2 had a healthy amount of JRPG releases up till 2008-2009.  So my guess is that the 360 is done before 2015 and the PS3 gets a few titles to carry it to 2016

I'm thinking the PS3 would survive at most up to 2017 or 2018. At most of course, it is still pretty amazing so it would live on if the PS2 lived on.

The Xbox 360 might survive up to late 2014 or 2015.

Think Microsoft confirmed support until 2015 or 2016.

I doubt the 360 will really have much support in the coming years. I mean look at it now, you don't see it getting any exclusives, unlike the PS3. It would be awesome if the PS3 lasts as long as the PS2 did, but only time will tell.

Well the systems never really "die", you'll just see less and less of them. The production of games for those systems is really what "dies". I can't remember what the last game for the PS2 was, but I do know that it will still be a good couple of years or so before PS3 games start to disappear. I'd give it around 1-2 years, maybe even 3. Knowing Microsoft, they will probably just dump the 360 as soon as the One hits the market. I can just see them doing that.

Yes, they do. Once the consoles are discontinued they're dead.

The final PlayStation 2 game is FIFA 14.

Nah, Microsoft confirmed support until 2015 or 2016.

Well what I meant was PRODUCTION of consoles die, not the consoles themselves. There isn't a "kill all consoles out there in the world" button, they just stop making them and they become collectors' items, things to be bought from other players. Nintendo stopped making NES's a long time ago, but you can still buy a NES from certain resources.

With the DS, PSP, and Wii already gone, when do you think the PS3 and the Xbox 360 will "die?"

As long as devs keep on releasing their multi platform games on the 360 and Ps3 alongside the next gen version, they're gonna be here for a while

Which might affect the Ps4 and Xbone badly in the post launch period in 2014 because, aside from few exclusives, everything is available on Ps3 and 360 and people won't make the leap to next gen that fast until a price cut....sure they'll sell well at launch but that's mostly pre-orders so sales have the potential to drop in the upcoming 6 months or so

Just cause the next generation is coming out doesn't mean the previous one will die right away.  I still play my PS2 like, and when PS4 and Xbone launch I will still play my PS3.  I think they'll stop producing them at all a couple years after the 8th gen, because bargainers will choose to wait for a price drop and the price reductions in the previous gen will also attract people.

The first company to release their next console qualifies as next gen. Whether you think it's powerful enough or not, it is an 8th generation console.

is sarcasm so hard to understand around here
