Tails 6,692 Posted November 8, 2013 (edited) Nintendo why did you decideto shut down Swapnote ENTIRELY??? I mean honestly, instead of Nintendo shutting down swapnote altogether they should have done something that was a bit more....hmm how should I say this...mature. I can understand that Nintendo is kid-friendly but did they SERIOUSLY have to shut down swapnote just because of a few punks using it for child pornography? In my opinion Nintendo should have handled that situation a little bit more appropriately. Instead of shutting down Swapnote and pissing off a bunch of people who use it a lot they should have just shut it down (temporarily of course) and maybe add some stuff like moderation so people don't post stuff like that ever again. Much like Miiverse on the Wii U. That, in my opinion, would have been a much better solution instead of just pissing off a bunch of the fans who love Swapnote and use it apropriately. I mean I honestly never used Swapnote since I don't find it to be all that interesting. But this was a very bad way to handle a situation like this and will only make everyone think that Nintendo are a bunch of babies if they can't even handle things like this appropriately (i.e. the Sony and Microsoft fanboys). Nintendo needs to learn that things like this will happen from time to time and should have been more prepared for something like this to happen. BlackAceZero777 77 Posted November 8, 2013 I agree....There is always a way to handle a situation in a mature nature, but doing this is not being mature....
Moochieh32 676 Posted November 8, 2013 Eh, they were just trying to protect innocent youngsters that use the app appropriately- I doubt they would have mods on there anyway. Besides- not ALL of it is shut down- we can still use the streetpass feature for it which is fine I guess, better than nothing right? I mean even Nintendo held a grudge on shutting the Online section down, according to their notice, and apologized. They DID took a mature action on this problem- unlike Microsoft where they don't do a single thing with Online Cross-chat w/e the hell that chat thing on Xbox is called, where kids swear, make stupid sexual jokes, even threaten others when playing games like GTA, CoD,- those type of games, which is beyond worst than the Swapnote incidents. I agree, it sucks they took down the Online features, but hey, they were protecting the good kids, you can't blame them. You should be blaming the aholes that acted immaturely on a Rated E app that is supposed to be used for communicating with friends and messaging others about news with Nintendo and such- you know what I'm talking about. Stupid kids.
Hero of Winds 2,576 Posted November 8, 2013 I think Nintendo handled it very maturely and quite well. Just because you liked it, doesn't mean they didn't handle correctly or maturely. Besides Swapnote was going away by time Miiverse was ready for the 3DS in the next few weeks here anyway.
Sora96 17,256 Posted November 8, 2013 Who says they won't replace it next year? They can't have child porn distributed on their service. What would you do if porn was distributed on something you made? I think is the right decision by Nintendo. I'm sure they'll make a better alternative. RoxSox 3,593 Posted November 8, 2013 I was going to say, "yeah don't punish those of us who are really mature!" and then I realize I actually drew a porn on swapnote so I'm not one to talk. Didn't send it to anyone though. That would be stoopid. 4 teh lazy prince Xylek, Cucco, Kurama and 1 other reacted to this
Columned-Munny 274 Posted November 8, 2013 I don't know I'd call it immature so much as misinterpreted. Nintendo's niche is appealing to families, and in an almost Disney-like fashion they like to have tight-regimented-control over what they produce to keep that perception enforced. If it's damaging to their public perception, then SwapNote is no longer a feature that helps them. I'd say this shutdown of the SwapNote also ties into their general misunderstanding of the internet in general. It reminded me of the announcement that the new Super Smash Bros. doesn't have a story mode because the cutscenes were posted online separate from the game, which has got to be the worst excuse I've ever heard. Nintendo loves having loyal fans, but only wants their fans to express their loyalty in limited ways. The other side of the argument is that the shutdown protects kids. I don't know what Nintendo knows, but I assume that they wouldn't have done this and affected every user if they didn't have reasonable cause. Kudos to them if that's the case, even if their solution was inelegant. 1 Cucco reacted to this
Ruby Rose 8,591 Posted November 8, 2013 If you can't swap notes any more, the name's kinda misleading... :S
MythrilMagician 6,963 Posted November 8, 2013 The only thing I hate about this entire situation is that some stupid people ruined it for everyone else.
