Hardest option, i may start a normal difficulty save file if it proves too difficult though. But i chose Proud mode for KH3D and it worked out fine. It was critical that was pretty hard.

If its a Final Fantasy or other game I think looks at least somewhat difficult I'll play on standard.

If its a game like Spongebob or another game that looks like its more playful then I'll play on a harder difficulty

Traditionally I start on the 'normal' or 'medium' difficulty then tackle the harder levels after I'm more familiar with the game, but I may be changing that.

Usually Standard. Especially KH, since I magically thought that all the KH games would be re-released on PS3 and I'd beat 'em on Proud there.

If it's a JRPG or any number of turn-based games, I almost always side with Easy or Medium.

 

If it's an action game I care about, I try it on the hardest. The Arkham games are a good example of that. If it's just one I'm hoping to breeze through, I go with easier difficulties.

usually standard mode, but if it's a game with contents (gameplay etc) that are 100% new to me maybe I choose easy mode like I did with DmC (first dmc I've ever played)

I had to play 358/2 Days on easy because it was a difficult game imo

in case of BbS and DDD I chose proud mode because of the Secret Ending
