X and Y: Could this be the end?

Recommended Posts

I do not think that the following belongs in the X and Y thread. If it is thought that it belongs there, though, then I would like it to be moved there. I would also like this thread to be locked or deleted if a similar thread has already been made.

To the point; does anyone else think that X and Y could mark the end of the Pokémon gaming franchise? Regardless of the fact that it is extremely financially successful, here are the reasons for why I think that Pokémon X and Y could be the final generation of the Pokémon series:

1. The titles. All of the other Pokémon games have had names that were derived either from colours, elements or precious stones, but these names did not exactly have much of a meaning to them (except, perhaps, for naming the colours of the Pokémon that were depicted on the box art). In the case of the X and Y versions, though, the titles are derived from the last two letters of the English alphabet, and I am sure that a countless number of people have already assumed that Z version is what will be the next instalment of Generation VI; the title being derived from the last letter of the alphabet, which, to me, implies an ending of sorts. I am aware that the names of the main legendary Pokémon of both of the titles begin with X and Y, but I do not think that that has much to do with the point that I am trying to make.

2. Mega-Evolutions of the starters of the first generation. As all readers should know, the second evolutions to the starter Pokémon of the first generation have been given Mega-Evolutions, with one of the three being revealed as having two different Mega-Evolutions; implying that the other two will receive another Mega-Evolution as well. I think of this as being something of a tribute to these Pokémon; the Pokémon that started what has become an extremely popular franchise, and I believe this to be a reminder to any players to never forget the trio who started the franchise that will soon come to a close.

3. The number of Pokémon. This may be a flawed point, but going by what we have been shown in the "leaks" so far, there is going to be a very large number of Pokémon, new and old, available for the taking in the pre-Elite Four part of the game. It has been shown that one starter from the first generation will be available for the taking at some point in X and Y, as well as a Torchic (though I cannot remember whether or not it is gained via an event). I think of this level of inclusion as being something of a homage to many existing Pokémon, and it gives the players a better opportunity to play the final entries in the series in whatever way they want.

4. Designs. I am not going to be too critical, but when it comes to creativity in the series, I believe that the Pokémon that have been revealed show something of a lack of ideas. I do not have a problem with the fact that some Pokémon are based on the same animal, but that does not mean that the reused design should not be well-made. Gogoat is a Pokémon that is blatantly quite similar to Sawsbuck, a Pokémon that was created only in the previous generation, which is not a good sign to me, and Pokémon such as Spewpa and Spritzee are not very well-designed at all. This point is purely based on my opinion, but I am sure that some people can relate to it.

Comments would be appreciated.

If Black and White was supposed to be the reboot of the series and a fresh start, how on earth would their successors be the last entries in the series? Besides that, didn't fans also speculate this would happen after BW?

EDIT: And besides all that, do you REALLY think that after selling over 1.5m copies worth of pre-orders (keyword: pre-orders) they will just stop producing one of their most successful franchises ever? No way.

I said that I was not regarding how successful the series is at the beginning.

Yeah, saw that, but that point just can NOT be ignored by any means, it's too crucial to be ignored. It's like saying 2+2=2 because we can ignore 2. Nintendo is first and foremost a business company, they want to make the most money, so they won't just throw away their own cash sucking machine :P (No, I'm not talking about Kirby)

Pokémon doesn't die it multiplies......But in all seriousness I highly doubt this is the end because there still so much unknown about the Pokémon Universe I mean the Humans haven't even figured out the secrets of the Earth and Sky in Pokémon not to mention the vast expanses of the Deep Sea and Pokémon from Space and Alternate Dimensions. So I'm pretty confident Pokémon will be around just a little longer, mate.

Edit: I think the X&Y in the title is referring to the genetics and chromosones

That is a purely opinion-based standpoint.

So's yours, which makes both a moot point.

also, deer and goats are two completely different animals.  Gogoat is, surprisingly, based off of a goat while reminiscent of a motorcycle, while Sawsbuck is most definitely based off of a deer.

and the X and Y as an ending of an alphabet wasn't the reasoning i saw, as most people jumped to genetics or coordinate planes.

A possible leak of a legendary Pokémon that has a name that begins with "Z" has already been revealed.

If X, Y (and Z) are to mean vector coordinates, then it can be viewed that pokemon is moving in all new directions.

coordinate planes also have a Z, as Sora'sMum has stated

I have already stated that it was a moot point.

They are both based off of similar real-world herbivorous animals, and they both have horns/antlers, fur, cloven-feet, and vegetation on their bodies.

If that's your logic, they would have been running out of ideas long ago.  Magikarp and Feebas are both generally weak fish who evolve into serpents that are much more powerful.

Growlithe and Vulpix are both canine fire types from the same generation.

What end????

Do you really think X & Y will be the last game in the series???

Then why did they made the Pokemon Bank service to last for more than one Generation of Pokemon???

Pokemon is like Mario,if Mario stopped it'll be a disaster not only for Nintendo but for gaming in general

Pokemon won't stop as long as it has the passionate huge fanbase that kept it alive for almost 2 decades

Besides, every main Pokemon game sold over 10 million copies, that's not counting the spin-off games that sold like crazy.....Dude the sales of Gen 5 games rivals that of Call of duty

The Pokemon franchise is the second best selling video game series of all time right after Mario.....do you really think that Nintendo will shut down the Pokemon Company, yes Pokemon is so big it needed it's own seperate company, that makes billions of money with each game??

Not to mention there is the anime, the merchandise and the manga, have you forgot about that??

Also, the letters X & Y doesn't refer to the alphabet, but to something about DNA and genetic changes

They can pick up a different theme and a different name in the next generation of Pokemon, not to mention the possibly inevitable remakes of Ruby and Saphire

XYZ are from coordinates, I think in one of the interviews this has been said.

Designs have been lacking for every gen. I'm sure they still can come up with more creative ideas, along with trubish Pokemon here and there. *Awaits Doritos Pokemon*

About the Z Pokemon:

Really weird, yet cool. It's suppose to be a surveillance for the ecosystem. I can see where Z version going to take this.

1.X and Y ( and Z) represent the 3 axis on which vectors are plotted. These also help create 3D polygonal animations like seen in these games. Furthermore, Xerneas and Yveltal (the third in the trio has been leaked though I will not mention it in the interest of not spoiling the game) seem to be based on Norsk Folklore rather then anything that would hint to finality. More than anything, Gen 6 reminds me of Gen 2, where not too many new Pokemon were released and many older Pokemon made a return during the initial gameplay.

2. As far as Game Freak's lack of creativity goes, look at Magnemite, Trubbish and Vanilish, among others. People said and some still say that Game Freak must have run out of ideas. Yet Game Freak Keeps coming back with more.

Finally, this point ties in with the other two. Some people, including my best friend said that Gen 4 would be the last one as they released the "God' Pokemon, Arceus. We are heading towards Gen 6 now. Pokemon won't be over till it's over and I think the end will be highly publicized. Plus they made Pokemon Bank so people could store pokemon on the cloud for generations to come. (Pun Intended)

speaking of a Z version....I think they might do like Gen 5 and make a sequel instead of a Z version

That did prove quite popular so they might do that. I just hope they make the Ruby and Sapphire remakes this gen.

That only worked because Kyurem had formes that did the fusion dance with the other mascots. Not sure how would sequels work unless Z has formes with alt formes. (2 at least) Doesn't necessarily need to fuse, it could be a new concept, but it must be 2 formes to give them an excuse to do 2 games=possible sequel.

There's also the chance it could be a sequel without version exclusives.

The only thing they need to come with is a plot. I don't see Team Flare going at it again with their meh ideas. (I can't even take them seriously) Perhaps a new team, while the former Flare members fight/help you out in said sequel? lol theorymoaning.

I would be fine if they brought back Team Plasma or at least make a team as strong or stronger than Plasma

And they HAVE to avoid ANYTHING similar or related to Team Galactic....that team sucks poke balls

As much as I would like Plasma return, I think it's set in stone that they're done. Speaking of them, it would be nice to see N again, but I don't see much of a reason+he wants to be forever alone in his castle. xD

Awhile back, I was thinking the same. I mean, look at all the fan service! Multiple Starters, Starters from Kanto and Hoenn, Mega-evolutions, riding Pokémon, jumping both sides of the ledges, SITTING, Pokémon-Amie... I mean, with all this fan service, what new features are left to feature in the next generation? But then I was like, NOPE, they wouldn't risk their biggest money maker.

Okay I really doubt it to be the end of Pokémon. In the game, it (spoiler alert) has many secret hints pointing to a remake of Pokémon R/S/E and the same thing happened with the Sinnoh series. If anything, I really thought that after Sinnoh, well the Pokémon series would come to a close. I thought that because of all the evolutions to past Pokémon, the fact that no other Pokémon from the next gen showed up until Zoroark popped up, and the fact that almost every element in the anime made it possible for the series to end. But that did not happen, and instead they tried to bring back the old feel of Pokémon with Black and White, that is why they had only new Pokémon in the main game and then let you get old Pokémon in the end of the game and the next installment. So yeah, they might be bring old ways of Pokémon back, but they did the same thing with Mario with New Super Mario Bros and Mario is still around. So because Nintendo can get money off of Pokémon, well then it is not going anywhere. They will keep milking in the cash as long as we are willing to give them the money.
